2 1 Grand County High School What is a Career Pathway? CTE Pathways show students a direct connection between doing well in high school and being able to transition smoothly to postsecondary opportunities or getting a good job when they graduate. Students who focus on a pathway acquire the skills necessary for entry into well-paid careers with high potential for rapid financial growth, increased levels of responsibility, and a high degree of personal satisfaction. Utah has 7 areas of study within the career pathways: Agricultural Education Business & Marketing Education Family & Consumer Science Education Health Science Education Information Technology Education Skilled and Technical Sciences Education Technology and Engineering Education Within each of these 7 areas, students can investigate a variety of career options. For example, in Family & Consumer Sciences Education, a student can complete a pathway in 3 areas: Family & Consumer Sciences Family & Human Services Food Services & Culinary Arts Interior Design Area of Study Or Career Cluster Career Pathway s Simply stated, career pathways are a roadmap to completing a sequence of courses. Each pathway will outline the classes each student will complete to earn the medallion. Pathways also show students related career fields in the future.

3 2 Grand County High School Pathway Completion As an incentive for students who have completed a state recognized pathway concentration in their chosen CTE course of study, students will earn a medallion to be worn during graduation ceremonies. Each student will: Complete total credits required for students chosen pathway area Complete all high school graduation requirements in order to earn a pathway Medallion Requirements: In order to wear the medallion at graduation, the student must meet with the CTE Coordinator for review before the end of the third trimester of the senior year.
