It is designed as a tw year part-time prgramme and can be taken t Masters, Diplma r Certificate level. Fr a Masters degree students need t accumulate 90 credits, fr a Pstgraduate Diplma students need 60 credits, and fr a Graduate Certificate, students need 30 credits. There will be a cmmn entry and students can decide n an nging basis at which level they wish t graduate. This degree prgram aims t fster in students an understanding f develpment issues, lking at different appraches t the causes f underdevelpment and plicy respnses. Students will be intrduced t different perspectives n develpment frm gvernments f develping states, frm dnr cuntries and agencies, frm develpment nn-gvernmental rganizatins (NGOs) and the majr internatinal institutins. The specialism in develpment educatin aims t build participants facilitatin and pedaggical skills. It will als allw them t examine their rles as educatrs hlistically. The specialism in Develpment Plicy will equip students with the capacity t analyse current develpment plices and a grunding in the dynamics f plicy prcesses. The graduate prgrammes at the Schl f Law and Gvernment in DCU are highly regarded in Ireland and internatinally and the Schl prvides a challenging and innvative learning envirnment. Students will attend DCU fr fur weekend curses and an intensive 5 day curse in the summer in each academic year. In additin the curse will utilise mdle an electrnic nline platfrm t deliver wrk packages and resurce material. During the weekends classes will take place n Saturday frm 9.30am t 5.30pm and Sunday frm 10am t 4pm.

2 Entry Requirements Applicants will nrmally have an hnurs primary degree r equivalent, but applicants with apprpriate cmbinatins f prfessinal qualificatins and/r experience may als, n the basis f the relevant University regulatins and prcedures, be ffered places. Students wh already hld a Graduate Certificate in Develpment Educatin frm DCU Students wh already hld a Graduate Certificate in Develpment Educatin frm DCU will nly have t cmplete an additinal 60 credits t btain a Masters Degree r an additinal 30 credits fr a Diplma. Fr a Masters Degree the 60 credits must include tw research methds mdules (20 credits), the dissertatin (30 credits) plus ne ther 10 credit mdule. Fr the Diplma the additinal 30 credits must include Research Methds 1 (10 credits), the Diplma Essay (10 credits) plus ne ther 10 credit mdule. This issue has implicatins beynd ecnmic develpment and human security, spilling ver int questins f military security and envirnmental sustainability. The aim f this mdule is t examine the ways in which the internatinal cmmunity has cllectively debated this issue and t intrduce students t the principal theretical perspectives within develpment studies. It will analyse the key phases in thinking n internatinal develpment frm the 1950s t the present day.
