The School Chilton Trinity is a mixed comprehensive school for students aged in Bridgwater, Somerset. The school was established in 1966 but recently moved into a brand new state of the art PFI building on the same site. The old school building is currently being demolished and it will be another few months before the new facilities and car park are completely finished. We can admit up to 200 students in each year group. Our overall number at present is 970. Trinity Leisure (1610) Sports facility is also located on our site and used by the local community throughout the day. On 1 st March a new swimming pool opens for the first time to complement the fitness suites and Sports Hall that opened last year. The school is popular and highly regarded in the local area. In our recent Ofsted Inspection (December 2012) all parents who expressed their views on Parent View, were overwhelmingly positive about the school and 100% said that they would recommend Chilton Trinity to other parents. Our academic success is improving. In general, students enter the school below average compared to other students nationally but our 2012 RAISEonline data indicates that students make progress in most subjects, given their starting points. In 2012 we achieved our best ever GCSE results with 52% achieving 5 A* - C (including English & Maths), a rise of 13% from Our current Year 11 students are on track to achieve good results too. 47% have already achieved a grade C or higher in Maths, with 5 months still to go! English and Science results have been higher than Maths over the past few years with Science achieving 89% and English 62% in 2012(despite problems nationally) both sig+ in terms of RAISEonline. Chilton Trinity is a happy school and relationships amongst and between staff and students are overwhelmingly positive. Our students are generally a delight to work with; they are usually well-motivated, but sometimes need encouragement to aim high and to believe in their own ability to succeed. We currently follow a Restorative Approaches behaviour model and believe that if students are treated as human beings, then respect is readily reciprocated. That being said, young people make mistakes and when this happens we will impose sanctions fairly and robustly in a way which we hope will educate students in the future. We want to ensure greater consistency by staff in the way that low level incidents are dealt with, the way that rewards and sanctions are recorded and the way that parents are kept informed We currently have 5 non-teaching Pastoral Team Leaders each of whom manage approximately 200 students in their year group. We also have a House System that runs alongside the Year System, which is extremely popular with students and staff and very competitive! Although we believe academic standards are important we also see education as more than that and we are also well known for our musical and sporting activities and for the quality of relationships and behaviour amongst our students. 4 P a g e
We are particularly praised for the quality of support that we offer to children with Special Needs and to children with disabilities. We are delighted to report that from September 2013, two retained buildings from our old school site will be used to house an Autism Unit and the Sixth Form from Penrose Special School. We anticipate forging very strong links and sharing staffing, facilities and resources with these two schools. I was appointed as Headteacher of Chilton Trinity last year and took up the post in September I have thoroughly enjoyed my first 3 terms here and have received a wonderful welcome from staff and students. This is a school that is moving forward and I very much hope that you will want to be part of our future development. Please do not hesitate to call us if you would like to look around before deciding whether to apply or if you would like clarification on any matter. If you do decide this post is for you I look forward to receiving your application. Lesley Greenway Headteacher Leadership Team: Headteacher Lesley Greenway (Appointed September 2012) Deputy Headteacher: Yvonne Allen (Appointed September 2011) Assistant Heads Kevin Grewcock Rachael Fraser Tim Williams Thomas Newell 5 P a g e
About our students There are numerous opportunities for students at Chilton Trinity. Our students play a big part in supporting Year 6 students with their transition from Primary School. Each Year 6 student has their own Ambassador from Year 9 who helps and guides them through the transition process. There is a strong element of Student Leadership in the school with students involved in decision making at all levels, such as in staff interviews, reviewing policies and planning the new school building. Recently students have been successful in changing and improving the eating areas within the school. House competitions, ranging from football to public speaking are held throughout the year. Students compete to win the Croad Trophy, which is presented to the House with the most points at the end of the year. Sports Day is very competitive with all students cheering on their House. Students from all Houses have the opportunity to become a House Leader. Students take part in a variety of Music and Drama activities. There are productions at each Key Stage and opportunities for them to participate in concerts and assemblies. Students take part in a variety of sports activities, i.e. in lessons, House competitions or representing the school. Many of our school teams are successful at both local and county level. Individual students have also represented the County and the South West in hockey, basketball, swimming, rugby and football. Our students value the ways in which the school works restoratively and its positive impact on the behaviour and relationships of students. The school has been recognised nationally for its work with Restorative Approaches. In Year 7 students have an opportunity to visit France on a study visit, spending a week in in Brittany. Year 8 Students all have the opportunity to go camping for the week in Porlock and participate in a variety of outdoor activities. For many students the Camp is a highlight during their time at Chilton. 6 P a g e
Ofsted Summary December 2012 Our recent visit from Ofsted was slightly earlier than expected but we were well prepared. We are all delighted by some of the encouraging phrases included in the overall report: Results in 2012 improved dramatically Current Year 11 students are on track to maintain and build on the improved results seen in 2012 There is some good and better teaching across all curriculum areas. In these lessons students make rapid progress Students value the caring community atmosphere of the school, feel safe and show respect for one another, staff, and their excellent school accommodation Student behaviour and safety are good, both in lessons, at break and at lunchtime There is a strong team spirit amongst staff and they are determined to make further improvements for the benefit of the students Teachers develop very positive relationships with students, engaging and motivating students to do their very best The school has a strong atmosphere of respect and good manners. Students demonstrate positive attitudes to learning Teachers and leaders work well together, sharing ideas and methods that have been particularly successful in raising students achievement, then applying these to their own lessons Strong partnerships exist with other providers enabling a group of students in Years 10 and 11 to access courses at the local college The Governors have a clear strategic vision for the school As you are aware, the new Ofsted Framework concentrates on the results of the school over the past three years. We achieved record GCSE results in 2012 but for us it had been a mixed picture in 2011 and 2010, with some results (particularly Mathematics) lower than we had expected in We were really pleased to be judged to be good in the areas of Behaviour & Safety and Leadership & Management but it was no surprise to us that Ofsted reported that the school requires improvement in the other two important areas. As a school we had already identified and were working on the same areas for improvement achievement (particularly progress measures) and the quality of teaching and learning where there are still some inconsistencies across subjects and within subjects. We have already made some changes and introduced new systems to move things forward and we are confident that we will see further improvements in Ofsted recognised that the changes that have been made are already making a difference and that the school is moving forward and making rapid improvements to teaching and learning and, consequently, student achievement, in lessons. We are delighted to report on the progress we have already made in Mathematics. In July 2012, 39% of students in Year 10 gained at least a grade C in their Mathematics GCSE examinations (taken a year early) and results published this week show that another 15% of those who took Maths in November (during our move!) have achieved the same high standard, and we still have another 5 months to go. A fantastic achievement! Our vision is that in the near future Chilton Trinity will be an outstanding school in every respect. So much of what goes on here is already outstanding we just need our results to be consistent year on year and for students to believe that they can achieve even more than they ever thought possible. We all know what it takes to be graded outstanding in Ofsted terms and believe me when I say that we are already doing lots of excellent work here at Chilton Trinity! Ofsted Reports make no mention of the amazing extra-curricular provision on offer or many of the things that go on outside school hours that in this school are very special. A full copy of our report can be downloaded from the school website. 7 P a g e

About the Design and Technology Department The Design and Technology Department is a hardworking department currently experiencing a period of change. The existing postholder has been on maternity leave during this academic year and has now made the decision to become a fulltime mum. We are looking to recruit someone who relishes a challenge and will help us to continue to move the department forward. Our recent Team Review of Design and Technology identified clear areas requiring improvement. Design and Technology is a popular choice of subject in the school with students opting for all areas of Design and Technology. At GCSE we offer Catering, Textiles, Graphics and Resistant Materials. The successful applicant will need to demonstrate an enthusiasm and good understanding for all areas of Design and Technology and specialise in Resistant Materials. A willingness to contribute to extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities is essential. Students study Design and Technology from Year 7 to Year 11. At KS3 students have the opportunity to do a variety of exciting projects in all areas of Design and Technology and experience the skills and knowledge needed to produce the products in the different areas. They work on a rotation which enables them to experience all areas and gain a good understanding of how Design and Technology provides the life skills for all students. During Year 9 the students can opt for their chosen Design and Technology area Catering, Textiles, Graphics, Resistant Materials or Product Design. At present the Design and Technology GCSE exam board is AQA and the GCSE course, in all areas of Design and Technology, is a 2 Year course of 60% controlled assessment and 40% exam, which is at the end of Year 11. We pride ourselves in the Department on our enthusiasm, creativity and commitment to the progress and development of the students in our care, qualities we value highly. We are a friendly team and work well together and we build strong relationships with students. We strive constantly to improve and are very much working hard to make new changes to develop the team further to enable students to get the best that they deserve; we are always open to new ideas.
