M.Ed. - Educational Leadership This program develops administrators and teacher leaders who convey a spirit of unity, cooperation, caring, and excellence. Online: This is an online cohort program. You will take one course at a time, in 7-week sessions. Coursework is conducted online, utilizing online assignments, discussions, message boards, and other communication tools. Coursework will be completed in approximately 2 years. Note: Online courses start the week of January 7th. Upon completion of the program, students will earn a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership, and will be eligible for the Administration and Supervision add-on endorsement from the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Education. This add-on endorsement leads to principal, assistant principal, or other leadership position in K-12 schools and districts. Applicants for the Educational Leadership major, who are seeking the Administration and Supervision PreK-12 add-on endorsement from the Virginia Department of Education, must hold a professional teaching license and have a minimum of three years teaching experience upon program completion. A submitted copy of the current professional teaching license is required along with the admissions application. 2 Existing public and private school teachers who want to improve their skills in the areas of Special Education. This program is designed to develop teachers prepared for the challenges of working with special populations of students. Online Master's Programs Online: This is an online cohort program. You will take one course at a time, in 7-week sessions. Coursework is conducted online, utilizing online assignments, discussions, message boards, and other communication tools. Coursework will be completed in approximately 2 years. Note: Online courses start the week of January 7th. Upon completion of the program, students will earn a Master of Education degree with a focus in the area of K-12 Special Education, and will be eligible for an Initial License with endorsement in Special Education General Curriculum (K-12). Students will complete all requirements for the Reading Specialist K-12 add-on endorsement by completing the K-12 Special Education course sequence along with the Add-On coursework for the Reading Specialist Endorsement. Students have the option of adding courses to complete a graduate certificate in Working with Autistic Children at the end of the program as well. Applicants for the K-12 Special Education major must have taken and passed the Praxis I assessment (reading, writing, and math); or the VCLA (reading and writing) AND the Praxis I Math; OR, submit qualifying SAT or ACT scores prior to admission into the program. Applicants seeking Reading Specialist add-on endorsement will be required to show at least three years of professional Pre-K-12 teaching experience in which reading was of primary importance, upon program completion. A submitted copy of the current professional teaching license is required along with the admissions application. M.Ed. - Reading Specialist This program is designed to meet the growing demand for trained reading specialists by providing competency-based courses that fulfill the requirements for a Virginia Endorsement. Online: This is an online cohort program. You will take one course at a time, in 7-week sessions. Coursework is conducted online, utilizing online assignments, discussions, message boards, and other communication tools. Coursework will be completed in approximately 2 years. Note: Online courses start the week of January 7th. Upon completion of the program, students will earn a Master of Education degree and will be eligible for endorsement in Reading Specialist K-12. Coursework focuses on linguistics, language acquisition, literacy instruction, TESOL methodology, and multicultural education. Online: This is an online cohort program. Courses will be completed in 15-week sessions. Coursework is conducted online, utilizing online assignments, discussions, message boards, and other communication tools. Coursework will be completed in approximately 2 years. Note: Online courses start the week of January 7th. Upon completion of the program, students will earn a Master of Education degree in the area of TESOL and will be eligible for an add-on endorsement in English as a Second Language (PreK-12) from the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Education. Online Master's Programs M.Ed. - Curriculum & Instruction This program is designed to prepare educators to develop and deliver effective instructional opportunities for diverse students in various learning settings including public, private, higher education, and the workplace. Educators with leadership responsibilities such as department head, content specialist, lead teacher, or curriculum developer will benefit from this degree as well as those employed in school system or higher education administration, corporate, and non-profit settings. The C&I degree emphasizes understanding learner characteristics, instructional design, assessment, and the effective integration of technology into instructional programs. The C&I degree offers four concentrations: Adult Education, Christian Education, Gifted and Talented Education, and Teacher Leader. Online: This is an online cohort program. Courses will be completed in 15-week sessions. Coursework is conducted online, utilizing online assignments, discussions, message boards, and other communication tools.
