1 The Endicott College Teaching Fellows Program 1
2 Welcome Letter Dear Fellows: Welcome to the Teaching Fellows Program and welcome to the Van Loan School of Graduate and Professional Studies at Endicott College. We are proud of this unique and innovative Fellows program and look forward to your involvement in the graduate school. You are about to embark on an intensive and rigorous graduate program, that upon successful completion next spring, you will have gained invaluable professional experience working in a school district. This experience, coupled with the coursework, will enable you to become a more effective teacher for children in our schools. This coming year will require dedication, commitment, and hard work. Please check in regularly with your advisor to ensure all program requirements are met. In case you need additional assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am available to make your educational journey as smooth and fulfilling as possible. Sincerely, Mary Huegel, Ph.D. Vice President and Dean Van Loan School of Graduate and Professional Studies 2
3 The Fellowship Program Expectations Endicott Teaching Fellows serve one year as associate teachers in local schools in exchange for the equivalent of full graduate program tuition. As members of the local school faculty and staff, fellows follow the school schedule and adhere to the standards and practices of the sponsoring district. 6 Professionalism The Teaching Fellows program models what students will encounter in the workforce. To that end, students are expected to dress business casual and conduct themselves as professionals for each day throughout the program. Fellows should obtain a copy of the district and/or school policy handbook and abide by the practices described within that document. Advisement Each Fellow has been assigned an Endicott advisor. Please contact your advisor if you have questions or concerns regarding your fellowship, coursework, or licensure status. Technology Committing to success in the Endicott Teaching Fellows program requires your full and undivided attention. Unless otherwise instructed, laptops, cell phones, tablet devices et al are to be left powered off and unused during class time. Preparation Each course will vary in the quantity of time needed outside of class to complete assignments and preparation for discussion. Students should anticipate spending a minimum of 4 hours a week in outside class hours for each course. The classroom is an academic environment in which every student is expected to be fully prepared to discuss assignments due and ready for active discussion of readings and lecture notes daily. Grading Each instructor will have carefully defined rubrics in each course syllabus, clearly describing how each grade will be determined. Grading will be reviewed and approved by the Director of Licensure Programs. Endorsement Upon verification of successful completion of all programmatic requirements, including coursework, practicum, reflective seminar, and the comprehensive examination, Fellows will be endorsed with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for the initial license. This will signify completion of the approved educator preparation requirement for licensure. 6
