It is designed to demonstrate that candidates have completed a competency-based sequence of courses totaling 12 credit hours. The program consists of four courses grounded in the cognitive, emotional and social development. This program provides teachers with the knowledge and skills in working with autistic students. This represents an increase in the prevalence of autism spectrum disorders. In the 1980 s autism prevalence was reported as one in 10,000. In the 1990 s, prevalence was one in 2500 and, later, one in ASDs are almost five times more common among boys (one in 54) than among girls (one in 252), and they are reported in all racial, ethnic and socioeconomic groups. 2 Graduate and Professional Studies M.Ed. in Instructional Technology The purpose of the Graduate Technology Programs is to prepare students with the tools and qualifications to be leaders in the technology field within any professional setting. The coursework includes hands-on application of research and theory for the improvement of teaching and learning. Students have an option to enter a program with or without the Pennsylvania Instructional Technology Specialist certification. All programs include the Concentration in Online Teaching. Students will use current research from practitioners in the field of education. Pedagogical coursework seems to contribute to teacher effectiveness at all grade levels, particularly when coupled with content knowledge.
