New systems are being brought to market at a dizzying pace. Should I do a chairside or take-home bleaching? Do the over-the-counter whitening products work and how do I incorporate them into my clinical practice? What about a combination of chairside and take-home? Are they worth it? In this course we will review the different systems on the market as well as those on the horizon. The pros and cons of bleaching will be covered, as well as the use of different light sources to speed up the whitening process. Issues of sensitivity, mechanism of action and longevity will be discussed. Material in this lecture will rely on scientific evidence from the literature as well from our own clinical experiences. Saturday, August 8 th Bioactive Dentistry Prevention to Restoration 8:00 a.m. 11:30 a.m. 3 CE Credits Dr. Gerard Kugel Sponsored in part by Crest & Oral B This course will cover everything from prevention to restoration, highlighting the new class of bioactive/biomimetic materials. We will review techniques and tools to enhance the long-term maintenance of your patient s dentition and to help prevent the need for future restoration. Questions are arising as to the longevity and appropriateness of our current resin material systems and the new generation of bonding agents. Researchers have begun to develop advanced acid-base restorative alternatives to help with the limitations we see with our restorative and luting needs. We will discuss these new materials and how they can help us produce better, more long-lasting bioactive and protective restorations, as well as improve our bonding results. Learn what bioactive materials are and how they work Discover how bioactive preventive materials can replace traditional preventive materials Understand how to incorporate bioactive preventive materials into practice Review effective aftercare tools and techniques to enhance long-term maintenance Understand why resin bonded restorations and bonding systems are being questioned Are the newer bonding agents and cements better? Actual case studies of interested will highlight Medical Errors in Dentistry which includes root cause analysis, reduction and prevention of errors and patient safety as required by 64B5-12 FAC. Recent serious cases will be discussed and questions answered. Dental Professionals Response to Domestic Violence 10:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. - 2 CE Credits (Mandatory Seminar for Re-Licensure) Jason Young, MS, Community Education & Training Manager The offering is an interactive, multimedia training providing a foundation for work as a dental professional serving as advocate, activist, and committed partner to ending intimate partner violence. The purpose is to provide knowledge specific to the profession in regard to screening processes, awareness of symptoms presenting that may be due to DV, increase in awareness of overall problem, and education on accessing / utilizing local domestic violence shelter assistance. Learning Objectives Participants will be able to list ramifications surrounding IPV/DV as a public health Issue and their role as an intervention specialist. Participants will become more aware of the problem of domestic violence and be able to better identify victims of domestic violence. Participants will learn best practices for screening and determining whether a patient has any history of being a victim or a perpetrator of domestic violence. 6 Annual Summer Meeting Speaker Bios The Ritz-Carlton, Naples August 6-9, 2015 Ms. Alexandra Valentin is an international speaker, advises organizations on culture transformation and is fl uent in English and Spanish. She is a 17-year veteran with The Ritz-Carlton, and during her career, she has served in Food & Beverage as well as in Quality. She has held the position of Director of Learning and the position of Area Director of Performance Development. Alexandra took an active role when The Ritz-Carlton pursued and won the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for the second time in While working at The Ritz-Carlton, Puerto Rico, Alexandra led her team when the hotel applied and won all categories of the PROCOMP Quality Award. Consequently, PROCOMP asked her to join its Board of Directors. Alexandra worked with PROCOMP to help organizations achieve top performance and implement new resources to increase productivity and effectiveness. Alexandra is a Certifi ed Hospitality Trainer (CHT) by the American Lodging and Educational Institute and is also a Targeted Selection Trainer from Development Dimensions International (DDI). She has shared the culture of The Ritz- Carlton with thousands of people around the world. Alex lives in sunny California, is a former weightlifting champion, runs half marathons every year and enjoys doing charitable work for abandoned dogs.. Dr. Gerard Kugel, Associate Dean for Research, and Professor of Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. With an expertise in Clinical Research and Esthetic Dentistry, he is a reviewer for The New England Journal of Medicine, JADA, The Journal of Dental Materials, and the Journal of Dentistry. He is on the Editorial Board of the Journal Esthetics & Restorative Dentistry, The Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry, and Compendium and he is Editor -in- Chief of Inside Dentistry. He is a Fellow in the American and International Colleges of Dentistry as well as the Academy of General Dentistry and the Academy of Dental Materials. Dr Kugel is on the Board of Directors of the CRA Foundation, and has his M.S. in Anatomy and Cellular Biology and his Ph.D. in Dental Materials. He received his Executive Certificate in Management from the MIT Sloan School of Business in Dr. Kugel has published over 120 articles and over 200 abstracts in the field of restorative materials and techniques. He has given over 300 lectures both nationally and internationally. Dr. Kugel is part of a group practice, the Boston Center for Oral Health, located in Back Bay, Boston. Dr. William Robinson received graduated Cum Laude from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in He is married to Cynthia and together they have six children and eleven grandchildren. Dr. Robinson served at all levels in organized dentistry and has received numerous awards for his dedication to the profession. He was presented with the FDA Medal and honored on two occasions with the FDA Service Award, received the Distinguished Service Award from the West Coast Dental Association and the Life Achievement Award of the Hillsborough County Dental Association. Dr. Robinson is a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, Fellow of the American College of Dentists, and a Fellow of the International College of Dentists. He served as Chair of the Florida Board of Dentistry and has given over 150 lectures. As Chair of the Ethics Committee of the American College he contributed to An Ethics Handbook for Dentists. Dr. Robinson served as Deputy Regent and International Counselor of the International College of Dentists. As Past Chairman of the Probable Cause Panel of the Florida Board of Dentistry he has reviewed more than 15,000 cases involving malpractice or other law violations. Dr. Robinson participated in every licensure exam in Florida from 1979 to 2011 and served as Chief Examiner for the Department of Health and a Consultant to the American Dental Licensure Examination. He was in-house expert for the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration for over a year and presented training sessions to AHCA Investigators and DOH staff. Dr. Robinson was selected nationally by the American Association of Dental Boards as a Member of the ADA Council on Dental Education and Licensure. He graduated from the FBI Citizens Academy and is an Honorary Deputy Sherriff. Recently, Dr. Robinson was presented with a Certificate of Commendation by the Florida Attorney General Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. Jason Young serves as Community Education & Training Manager for The Shelter. His responsibilities include public speaking throughout the community of Collier County in an effort to share information about shelter programs & services and provide education in relation to the dynamics of domestic violence and how organizations can take part in our mission. He also creates & manages a web-based training program re: domestic violence education, as well as directing training processes in relation to staff & volunteer required competencies. Jason has a Master s degree in Community Agency Counseling received from Jacksonville State University.
