5 About us The word Gainfort has become synonymous with flair and excellence in the hair and beauty industry. For many years now, we ve been supplying salons with their everyday needs and helping new establishments with their design and fit out. And so it was only natural to take it one step further and open a state-of-the-art training academy. Based in Wexford, Waterford and Carlow, Gainfort Academy is fully equipped with the latest facilities and teaching technology. Our intimate classrooms and spacious amphitheatre are specially designed for a wide variety of courses, seminars and workshops for industry professionals and aspiring amateurs. The Academy was recently selected in RSVP Magazine s Elite selection of Leading Beauty Schools in Ireland. We have an overall pass rate of 99% in our ITEC courses to date. 6 Our team Louise Howlin CIBTAC and ITEC qualified in 2005 Louise has continued her training and worked as senior therapist with Whites Tranquility Health Spa for the past 8 years. She joined the Gainfort Team in 2011 as a beauty tutor. Louise is trained in Dermalogica, Jane Iredale Make Up, MAC Make Up, Phytomer to name but a few. Michelle Kennedy Michelle has over 20 years hairdressing and barbering experience. She has both junior and senior trade examinations as well as her masters in hairdressing. Michelle successfully ran her own salon up in Dublin for 7 years, she has also worked on photo shoots for V.I.P Magazine. She previously was a tutor in Crumlin College and also Sallynoggin College. Mary Ogilive Mary has a wealth of experience in the training field being on of South East s leading educators for numerous years. She has a vast knowledge of colour having completed The Loreal and Wella colour specialist degree. Mary commands a high level of tutoring. The results show with her individual care with her students. Margo Kilkenny With over thirty years of hairdressing experience Margo is an official educator and technician for Affinage Salon Professional. Travelling and educating both nationally and internationally working with some of the Britain s top hairstylist at their seminars, courses and shows. Her work with Affinage allows her to educate everyone in the hairdressing industry in the latest hair and colour trends which are ongoing in the current hair industry. She also has been running her own salon 6 since 1992.

7 Our team Sharon Sheehan Sharon is proprietor of award winning salon AC Pure. She has worked as Artistic Director for Toni and Guy for 12 years. Sharon was a franchisee for Toni and Guy Waterford and was staff educator within the company. Specializing in cutting and Red Carpet/ Bridal Hair having worked with a vast celebrity clientele. Julie Caulfield Julie has been working in the industry since Training in IADT Dun Laoghaire, in the prestigious national film school studying make-up for film, TV and theatre. Her training included a broad range of skills from prosthetics, special effects and wigs to airbrush and high fashion. Joanne Quinn Joanne qualified in ITEC, CIBTAC and CIDESCO Beauty, Nail Technology and Complementary therapies in 2005 and has been working for Gainfort Academy since Joanne spent her career working in salons and spas in the Waterford and Wexford area before establishing her own Mobile beauty and complementary therapies business Pink Lotus Therapies. With a passion for teaching, Joanne prides herself in staying constantly up to date with the industry and has a particular interest in skincare, nails, massage and complementary therapies. Ken Boylan Ken is one of Ireland s most esteemed freelance make up artists. With 17 years experience in the industry Ken regularly contributes to leading fashion publications and is a frequent contributor on television programmes such as RTE s The Afternoon Show, and TV3 s Xpose & Ireland AM. He has also worked with a host of celebrities and models for red carpet events, award ceremonies, fashion shoots and shows. 7

10 ITEC Level 2 Cutting Women s Hair Award This award is aimed at beginners or staff in the hairdressing industry looking to gain a level 2 qualification in cutting, no previous experience required but experience is a distinct advantage. DURATION: 10 week course This course is a part time course, please see timetable for next start date. 795 includes training head, scissors and thinners. Deposit 200 balance due on or before start date. Payment plans available THE COURSE COVERS THE FOLLOWING: How to prepare for cutting services - consultation, assess the hair and factor effecting the cut. Provide a cutting service consult with the client, correct selection of equipment, establish and follow guidelines. Cutting techniques to include club cutting, layering, graduation and taper, Cross check hair. Create a finished cut and give aftercare advice. Follow heath, safety and hygiene practices Conduct services in a professional manner. The exams include one practical exam and one multiple choice paper. THE COURSE AIMS: to provide opportunities for staff in the hairdressing industry to gain a Level 2 qualification to provide opportunities for learners to focus on the development of the major functional skills and the wider functional skills in a hairdressing context, such as communicating with clients, working with others and problem solving to provide opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in employment. 11 ITEC Level 2 Colour & Lighten Hair Award This award is aimed at beginners or staff in the hairdressing industry looking to gain a level 2 qualification in colouring and lightening hair, no previous experience required but experience is a distinct advantage. DURATION: 12 week course This course is a part time course, please see timetable for next start date. 995 includes training head. Deposit 300 balance due on or before start date. Payment plans available THE COURSE COVERS THE FOLLOWING: Preparing to colour hair Client consultation, assessing hair and influencing factors. Know the principles for colour selection, understand natural colour pigments, understand the ICC, know how to use hydrogen peroxide and the effects it has on hair Provide a colouring service to include, highlighting, low-lighting, regrowth and full head. Mix and apply colour, monitor the development of colour and removable of colouring products from the client. Health, safety and hygiene Client aftercare. The exams include one practical exam and one multiple choice paper. 12 ITEC Level 2 Barbering Certificate This certificate is aimed at beginners, no previous experience required or staff in the hairdressing industry looking to gain a level 2 qualification in barbering DURATION: 20 classes This course is a part time course, please see timetable for next start date including kit, exam fees and registration. Payment plan 50 x 20 weeks. THE COURSE COVERS THE FOLLOWING: Health and safety practices and procedures to offer a professional safe service Client Consultation communicate and advise clients, establish client requirements, maintain client records, assess clients hair and identify any factors which may limit or prevent choice of serve Cutting Men s Hair preparing to cut, providing a cut, assessing male baldness pattern, use of clippers blades, identify hair type, natural hairlines and necklines. Finish a cut and after care Cutting Facial Hair preparing and providing a service suitable for the client. Use of correct equipment, identify potential risk of in-grown hair, provide aftercare advise and care of your equipment. The exams include a practical and four multiple choice papers. Students will be required to prepare a portfolio throughout the course. THE COURSE AIMS: to provide opportunities for staff in the barbering industry to gain a Level 2 qualification to provide opportunities for learners to focus on the development of the major functional skills and the wider functional skills in a barbering context, such as communicating with clients, working with others and problem solving to provide opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in employment as a barber. 12

13 ITEC Level 2 The Art of Dressing Hair Award This award is aimed at beginners, no previous experience required. The course will teach you styling techniques, products and the effects of dressing hair. Thought by Sharon Sheehan Wella Trend Vision Winner DURATION: 3 day course 495 includes training head. Deposit 200 balance due on or before start date. Payment plans available. Classes can be attended individual for 175 with Gainfort Certificate awarded. 14 ITEC Level 2 + Level 3 2 Year Hairdressing and Barbering Diploma The ITEC Diploma in Hairdressing and Barbering is a two year part time course. This is ideal for the candidate with no experience or someone working in the industry looking for an international recognised qualification. Our extensive knowledge and expertise in the hair and beauty industry along with excellent tutors has led to our Academy being awarded Training Provider of the Year 2012 and 2014 alog with becoming a Centre of excellence for TIGI, Revlon, L Oreal and Affinage. DURATION: 2 years, 2 days per week, course will commence last week of September : 8895 for 2 year course, (includes the kit, books, tunic, exam fees and ITEC registration). The course involves multiple choice questions papers throughout the year with a practical exam at the end of each year. You will also have a portfolio of work to complete each year. 16 ITEC Level 3 Hairdressing Diploma The main aim of this course is to enable Learners to gain the necessary practical skills and knowledge in order to provide creative Hairdressing Treatments to the general public and to gain employment in the Hairdressing Industry. Our extensive knowledge and expertise in the hair and beauty industry along with excellent tutors has led to our Academy being awarded Training Provider of the Year for 2 years. This one year course is for students with a level 2 qualification or students working in the industry and looking for their professional diploma. Entrance to this course may require a skills test. DURATION 1 year part time course 4250 includes tunic, books, hair extension kit and ITEC registration and exam fees. Kit is not included in the price but a list is given. (Most level 3 students will already have the majority of the kit.) Gainfort can supply a full or partial kit as required. Deposit of 1500 to secure your place. Payment plan: Deposit 1500 plus 100 per week for 29 weeks. The course is run over four days, one day per week with optional fifth day for upstyling with hair pieces. It is suitable for beginners. Work experience during the course is advisable but not essential to do the course. DURATION 1 day per week for 1 year or 2 days per week for 21 weeks 2500 Deposit 500 balance on or before start date Payment plan options. 23 CIBTAC Diploma in Beauty Therapy Treatments This course is ideal for candidates wishing to leave college with the level 3 (level 5 Irish Framework) qualification in beauty therapy. It is suitable for Level 2 Diploma holders looking to achieve a level 3 with massage or beginners. Work experience during the course is advisable but not essential to do the course. DURATION 6 months part time course 3 days per week, 10am - 5pm Deposit of 950 balance on or before start date Payment plan is available. 24 ITEC Level 2 Beauty Specialist Certificate This certificate is for candidate who wishes to gain a qualification to specialise in facial, skincare treatments and eye enhancement. No experience necessary. We highly recommend the elite upgrade with this qualification. The course will have a practical exam and one theory multiple choice question exam. Candidates will also have to complete 5 case studies. DURATION 14 classes 700 includes kit Deposit of 200 to secure your place plus balance on or before start date. 25 ITEC Level 2 Make Up Certificate This qualification is ideal for candidates who wish to specialise in make up. It is ideal as a beginner or introduction course for anyone who wishes to become a make up artist, we strongly recommend you continue with the make up diploma for candidates who wish to become a professional make up artist. The course cost includes your kit, tunic, exam fees and ITEC registration. DURATION 7 days or 14 evenings Cost 750 including tunic and basic kit Deposit of 500 to secure a place, balance due on or before start date Ken Boylan Professional Make Up Kit worth 615 available for 395 with this course THE COURSE COVERS THE FOLLOWING: Heath, safety and hygiene practices Client consultation Identification of contraindications Identification of skin tone, skin types, skin conditions Recognise face shapes and enhance clients features Airbrush make up Provide a make up application suitable for all ages and occasions Understand and demonstrate the correct use of cosmetics Cosmetic science The course will consist of a practical exam and a theory exam. Candidates will also have to prepare evidence of 5 treatments, including 1 treatment per client, to include one day, one evening, one special occasion, one bridal and one other make-up 25

26 ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Fashion, Theatre & Media Make-up This course is for candidates that wish to become professional make up artists. With over 30 looks to achieve, from 15th century to present, will include special effects images also. Candidates will have a finished portfolio of over 30 looks including a professional photo shoot at the end of the course. The Candidate will study the knowledge of all treatments as well as the anatomy of the head and neck. Contraindications and recognition of skin diseases and disorders are also a vital part of their training as well as the underpinning knowledge and skills required to successfully perform the looks as a make up artist including film and theatre Ken Boylan Masterclass, SFX taught by industry leader Julie Caulfield. An on location professional photo shoot will be part of the course where students get to create their own look from a theme given by the academy. DURATION 42 weeks 2995 inclusive of tunic, exam fees, books and ITEC registration. Make Up kits are not included. Professional Make Up Kit and SFX kit 595 must be paid on or before start date these kits are 780 if not paid for before the course. All courses are available in Wexford academy, limited availability in Waterford Academy All courses start at 10am unless otherwise stated Students will on occasion be offered free workshops that may not be their usual college day, we strongly recommend students avail of these courses as they are of great benefit to their career. Students part taking in the yearly photo shoot, will have an additional cost of 15 per printed photo. The academy supply a professional photographer but due to class numbers we do not cover the cost of any prints. Hairdressing students will be encouraged to enter the IHF competition and any other competition students are interested in. Gainfort academy will assist but the academy do not cover entering fees or additional costs for these competitions. There is a minimum of 80% attendance on ITEC courses before you can sit an exam.
