1 Cosmetology Outline The primary purpose of the Cosmetology course is to train students in both theory and practical experience which will prepare them for immediate opportunities in hair, skin and nails in the field of Cosmetology. This course, as required by the NM State Board of Cosmetology, teaches the theory and requires both demonstration and practical applications of all aspect of the Cosmetology field. This course also teaches some aspects of the Industry that are not required but are beneficial to the student. Course Goals: The course goals of the Cosmetology course are in 1600 clock hours to train and educate the Cosmetology student in the principals and practices of the field of Cosmetology. This training will enable the student to pass the NM State Board of Cosmetology examination and allow them to obtain a license as a Cosmetologist. After obtaining their Cosmetology license they will be able to perform any Cosmetology services permitted by the NM State Board of Cosmetology. The performance of services has to be done in a Salon license by the Board of Cosmetology. The first clock hours or approximately 20 weeks is spent in the freshman class before being eligible to perform services on clients in the clinic. To prepare students to successfully pass the State Board examination. 3. To prepare the physical skills they have and apply the theoretical knowledge they learn to solve problems of clients. 4. Final examination Required Level of Achievement All students are required to maintain at least a 75% grade average and 67% in attendance. 7 GRADING SYSTEM USED: THEORY The following represents the equivalencies of the grades assigned. Percent Rating Grade Excellent A Good B Satisfactory C 74-0 Failing (retake) F There are required numbers of practical practices required in the Cosmetology Course. These are minimum requirements and no maximums. The numbers of practices required are given to the student upon entering the course in their Course Outline. Clinic/Laboratory services and credit sheet assignments are graded on a pass/fail scale, based on project completions. Students are permitted to take any failed exam over with the second grade substitution for the first.
