1 DIPLOMA IN BEAUTY AND BODY THERAPY Information for International applicants 2016 ENTRY The Diploma in Beauty and Body Therapy programme is a full-time, two year programme which offers you stimulating studies and provides a pathway to a career in many aspects of the health and beauty industry. The programme covers a wide range of topics including facial therapy, manicures and pedicures, waxing and electrolysis, body treatments, anatomy and physiology of the human body, cosmetic chemistry, professional practice and cosmetic treatments. This covers tinting, brows, facial bleaching, and make up application. Beauty therapy is a demanding career that requires dedication, a love of people, and a caring nature. Qualification Diploma in Beauty and Body Therapy Programme level Level 5 Length Two years Start dates 15 February Study options Full-time Fees NZ$ 20,500 per year Total number of credits 240 Class times Most classes are scheduled between 8.00am and 5.00pm Monday - Friday. An evening clinic roster is the exception to these times and requires both Year One and Year Two students to be available to work until 7.30pm (maximum of one night per week) throughout the year. For Year One students this will usually only occur in Semester Two. If the declaration identifies any issue that may impact on the student s ability to complete the programme, the student can discuss these with the Programme Coordinator at an information session. EIT reserves the right to decline entry to the programme should an applicant s police record or health difficulties be such that they would be considered unsuitable for the type of work undertaken whilst on this programme or by graduates of this programme. The guidelines on which this decision will be based are the relevant professional association or industry requirements HB Anniversary Day Friday, 21 October Labour Day Monday, 24 October Programme Ends Friday, 25 November 2016 ENGLISH LANGUAGE ENTRY REQUIREMENT Applicants for whom English is not their first language must have an acceptable level of English language fluency prior to enrolment in the programme. This may be demonstrated in a variety of ways, including successful study of a programme in which English was the language of instruction, completion of a New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 3), approved scores on IELTS tests (6.0 Academic with no band score lower than 5.5), completion of accepted international equivalents, or completion of an EIT assessment. ENTRY WITH CREDIT You may already have some knowledge or skills that can be recognised as part of your intended study. This may take a number of different forms including study while at high school, study at a private training establishment, workplace training, other tertiary study, life experiences or voluntary work. If you think you may qualify, you may want to apply for Cross Credit or Recognition of Prior Learning. Cross Credit is based on the equivalency of courses or qualifications. You would apply for Cross Credit if you have passed a very similar course at the same level. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is based on the assessment of your current knowledge and skills. You would apply for RPL if you had gained the relevant knowledge and skills through life experiences and informal learning situations.

3 You will be asked to provide details of anything that you would like considered as credit toward your intended programme of study, as part of your application. RPL and Cross Credit cannot be awarded for a course if you are enrolled in that course. You must apply prior to enrolment. FACILITIES A purpose built clinic on campus provides students with an ideal learning environment in which to develop their practical skills. Theory lectures take place in a number of classrooms across campus. PRACTICUM, WORK EXPERIENCE Students experience a variety of practical aspects throughout the two years including work in a simulated clinic on campus and/or industry based practicum placement. ASSESSMENTS Assessments include essays, written reports, assignments, exams and practical demonstration of skills. One, P/C: DBBT5.35 Science 2 Develop an understanding of the human respiratory, urinary, endocrine, nervous, reproductive, cardiovascular and lymphatic systems in relation to beauty services applications and treatments. P: Successful Completion P/C: DBBT5.25 Special Clinical Topic in Beauty and Body Therapy Develop skills and knowledge necessary to locate, retrieve and use a variety of relevant information resources. Students will be supported to develop critical thinking skills in relation to understanding current professional literature. Students will also develop skills for inquiry in an area of health and aesthetics, culminating in the presentation of a written clinical report. P: Successful Completion Yr. One Beauty Therapy Clinic Develop knowledge and industry experience within simulated clinic setting. Students will be required to advance from basic routine treatments to design specific programmes and monitor client progress and the needs of the client. The broad spectrum of the Beauty Therapist s role will be recognised. P: Successful Completion Yr. One

If you do not meet all of the entry criteria we may issue you with a Conditional Offer of Place. You will need to meet all of the conditions as set out on your Offer of Place before you can apply for your Student Visa. 05 Pay your fees and apply for your Student Visa Once you have accepted your offer to study with us and paid your fees, we will send you a receipt that you will need to submit when applying for your visa. Details on applying for your Student Visa are available on the Immigration New Zealand website 06 Let us know your arrival details Once your visa has been approved you can then book your flights. Please let us know your arrival details whether you ll be living in EIT accommodation or not. If you are staying in EIT accommodation, we will arrange for you to be collected from the Napier airport for FREE.
