5 Payment for courses using Standing Order facility 35% of your course fee has to be paid at enrolment. (Proof of address will be required.) Standing Order is then set up monthly following the date of your enrolment (not from the start of the course). Payments will be calculated so that all costs are recovered before the final session of the course. Example: if you enrol on the course the month before the course starts e.g. in August, your first standing order would be taken in September 2014 and would run through to June 2015 (course ends July 2015). Any learner defaulting on payment will be sent an invoice for the total course fee, from Croydon Council, and the full amount will become due and payable immediately. If payment is not made Croydon Council may take legal action to recover the debt. It is also likely that if you fail to make payments you will be excluded from your class until payment is made to bring you up to date. Withdrawal from courses o If you withdraw from the course for any reason other than with a medical certificate you will still be liable for the full course fee you owe to CALAT. o If you are withdrawn because your attendance does not meet the 80% requirement (see learner code of conduct) or your punctuality is an issue, or if you fail to keep up with coursework you will still be liable for the full course fee you owe to CALAT. o If you are in receipt of GDLS Fund support for help with tuition and exam fees, when you drop out of a course or are withdrawn because your attendance does not meet the 80% requirement (as above) you will have to repay to the GDLS Funds the amount of the financial support that has been given. All learners should be aware that where they are in receipt of subsidised course fees i.e. No Fee they are receiving public funds to support their learning. 17 Academic support Following your English & Maths assessment you will be offered advice on progression and how to develop these skills further if your result is not at Level 2. If your assessment identifies support needs CALAT may be able to provide some language and literacy sessions and dyslexia support to learners who require it. These sessions are provided outside of normal course delivery hours. For some learners attending classes, this support may be a condition of them being offered a place on the course and non-attendance may prevent the learner completing their course within the normal timescales. However, if the English assessment indicates that you do not yet reach Level 1 you will not be offered a place on the beauty course, however CALAT will make recommendations to support you and you may be invited to re-apply at a future date. You are expected to have computer access and use of computer whilst on the course. Local libraries have a number of learning centres where learners can use computers facilities if they do not have their own. Health questionnaire At your Information & Interview Session you will be asked to fill out one of these for health and safety reasons and to assist your tutor in identifying any contraindications to treatment. You will be asked to confirm details at the start of the course. If you are not offered a place or do not enrol, your questionnaire will be destroyed. Questionnaires are kept in a sealed envelope in course registers in case of incidents whilst you are on the course and so that tutors are aware of any conditions that may affect treatment. If you have a medical condition that is contra-indicated you will have to provide a doctors letter. Costs may vary and must be borne by you. ITEC Learner Code of Conduct Statement Please be aware that you are expected to adhere to the highest levels of professionalism at all times whilst on CALAT premises and attending this course. Any poor behaviour, inappropriate language or attitude deemed to be in breach of Learner Code of Conduct will be treated with the utmost seriousness. You are expected to treat other learners, tutors and other members of staff with respect at all times. In addition, you will be carrying out practical treatments on clients who also need to be treated with professionalism. This includes punctual attendance at all classes. At your Information & Interview Session you will be asked to read and sign the above. It contains clear guidelines on what you can expect from CALAT and what CALAT expects from you whilst you are on the course. This is an abbreviated version of CALAT s full Learner Code of Conduct. Breaches of the code while on a CALAT course could result in you being excluded from the course. Page 17 25/07/2014

The course has enabled me to gain the skills I need to complete treatments to a high standard. The teaching has been excellent throughout the course with a tutor who has been happy to help. I feel the course has also helped me with my confidence. I would recommend the beauty courses at CALAT to anyone wanting to pursue a career in beauty. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time studying at the CALAT Thornton Heath Centre, whilst on the ITEC Beauty Therapy course. I not only gained knowledge and experience in my chosen career, but invaluable support from my tutor, with her years of experience and her passion she inspired me to succeed and progress within the beauty industry. I am currently on the ITEC Level 2 Beauty Therapy course and have really enjoyed every minute of it. The tutor is an excellent teacher and does her job very well!! There is a lot of work involved so to anyone considering the course I would say make sure your able to be 100% committed to it as you need to put a lot of time and effort into the course as there can be quite a bit of extra work to do at home. All the staff at CALAT are lovely and are always very helpful when enrolling and finding out about courses. On the next page you will find the dates and times of the Information & Interview sessions.
