4 1 Introduction to Qualification Approval Gateways Why have the Qualification Approval Gateways been developed? The Gateways have been designed to simplify the qualification approval process by evaluating and recognising common qualification approval requirements through one Gateway EQA activity. The primary objective is to reduce unnecessary duplication. The process of recognising these common requirements is initially the same as the existing qualification approval arrangements as set out in section 3.3 of the City & Guilds Centre Manual Supporting Customer Excellence Centre Manual September 2013 Version 6.0. How do the Qualifications Gateways work? There are four Gateways covering all qualifications in the portfolio area. The qualification approval requirements of each qualification within each Gateway have been mapped to identify those requirements that are common across these qualifications. Existing Centres 1. Existing centres may submit a free Qualification Application (QAP) form to indicate that they wish to gain Gateway approval for additional qualifications within their areas of existing approval, e.g. a centre offering may seek Gateway approval for the 3003 VRQ up to Level 2. a centre offering may seek Gateway approval for the 3008 NVQs and 3002 VRQs up to Level Applications outside the centres existing qualification approval must be made using the normal QAP process e.g. a centre approved for VRQ Level , must submit a full application if they wish to offer a higher level qualification or a NVQ a centre approved for VRQ 3 Level ,must submit a full application if they wish to offer a higher level qualification or a NVQ. 3. Further applications outside the centres existing Gateway approval must be made using the normal QAP process, in line with risk. 4 of 196
