2 Introduction This Ministry Playbook is designed to keep us focused on what we believe God is calling us to be and do. A key to success is clarity and consistency when it comes to our Vision, Values, Vehicles and Evaluation. Peyton Manning has had the same playbook for years, and it s one of the reasons he has been the most successful field general in NFL history. We believe that by giving ourselves to our vision, values, vehicles and evaluation we will glorify God and be an expression of God s kingdom on earth.

5 Our Dashboard The dashboard of a car helps you evaluate how the engine is working. If what we measure determines what we get, then the following statistics will help us determine the health of the church as we form disciples on mission. Growth (spiritually and numerically) 1. 6 Specific Goals for our Ministry Teams Children s Ministry 1. Recast Sunday morning program for Xpedition, KidVenture, Basecamp and Lil Trekkers to increase attendance from 229 in to 260 in Establish a once per quarter plan of salvation/growing in Christ event during the Sunday school hours that leads children to Christ and encourages children actively pursuing Christ. 3. Solidify a core group of volunteers for Xpedition, KidVenture and Lil Trekkers that each of the program directors is deeply connected to and invested in. 4. Provide an alternative discipleship opportunity on Wednesday nights in a come-to, non-threatening environment to attract kids and their families to the church by increasing the School of the Rock enrollment from 120 kids to more than 150 kids on Wednesday nights. 5. Develop opportunities for families of Christ Church to connect with families outside the church in the community in common ground environments through three events (Egg Hunt, Advent event, Fall Carnival). 6. Creatively contact new visitors each week.

7 7. Meet each school principal/key administrators in our community (CUMCKids defined mission field) either physically on site or with information. (SOTR info, classroom visits) to build relationships. Specific schools include Brewster, Lester, Cornerstone Prep, Grahamwood, Shady Grove, Richland and CMDS. Student Ministry 1. Create a high-invitation culture by hosting five highinvitational events that attract new students and fringe students. 2. Create a hospitality plan, including a hospitality team (with five students and five adult leaders) to welcome students to ministry events. 3. Increase relational ministry with each staff person leading a discipleship group with students or key adult volunteers. 4. Increase relational ministry with each ministry staff member making 10 contacts (calls, texts, or meet-ups) with students a week. 5. Increase connection with parents by each director making contact with three parents and one D-Group leader each week. 6. Create comprehensive and reproducible Confirmation curriculum that grounds students in the Christian faith. 7. Create a comprehensive teaching plan for 6th-12th grade that captures our mission to make, mature and mobilize disciples.

8 8. Reach new attendance levels at Refuge (HS = 115; MS = 130). 9. Increase student leadership by growing SALT team from 20 to 25 students. College Ministry 1. Develop networking and presence on University of Memphis and Rhodes campuses by end of this school year. 2. Start a Bible study next to the University of Memphis with 20 students attending by the end of the year. 3. Start a Huddle with key college student leaders by March. 4. Set up core teams of (away) college students at highly attended campuses to visit once a year. 5. Have weekly summer study for away students to attend (10 weeks). 6. Start a college ready class for second-semester seniors to attend in spring. 7. Create a social space (Spikeball tournaments/cookouts/etc.) once a month for college students to attend. 8. See a total of 25 college students attend Christ Church by the end of the year.

9 Young Adults Ministry 1. Start a new Huddle for young adults that multiplies into a second group. 2. Launch a Social Space Gathering for young adults once a month. 3. Meet monthly with young adult core leadership team. 4. Launch new Sunday school class for young adults at 9:45 with all three young adult Sunday school classes averaging a total of 80 for the year new young adults join the church. Adult Ministry new people join the church in Connect 80 regular attendees and members to Community Life Groups. 3. Increase participation in Sunday school moving the average from 520 to 580 by fall Reformate Christ College and engage 100 people. 5. Train 5-10 new teachers for Sunday school classes or small groups.

10 6. Start five new Huddles as vehicles for leadership training. 7. Create new membership class that increases participation by 10 percent from average in Worship Ministry CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP 1. Develop three worship bands with one made up of Christ Church members. 2. Transition hired band members to part of the Christ Church family by officially joining the church to live on mission with, and shape, the church. 3. Launch and host a weekly Huddle with new band members not previously huddled. 4. Help recruit, train and deploy any new worship teams for new services on or off campus. 5. Recruit, train and deploy a worship choir that functions as a community on mission. 6. Two full Sunday morning technology volunteer teams 7. Bumper videos for each series and 8-10 testimony videos for the year

11 TRADITIONAL WORSHIP 1. Host four events on Sunday mornings at both 8:30 and 11:00 services with large orchestra during the year. 2. Increase instrumentation at both 8:30 and 11:00 services at least once a month. 3. Establish a Song Leader at both 8:30 and 11:00 services each Sunday. 4. Purposely plan familiar hymns that capture the theme of the sermon each Sunday. 5. Increase recruitment effort for the choir and add an additional five unpaid members during the year. 6. Incorporate different instrumentation and genres into the choir anthem once a month. THE TABLE new people come to The Table and average 160 by later fall new people join the church through The Table 3. Host monthly Oikos/Social Space Gatherings during the next year with new people attending. 4. Create three extended family activities for people to engage with during the next year.

12 5. Identify a Core Team of 5-10 interested in developing an outpost. Congregational Care 1. Expanding the base of care by recruiting, equipping and training Congregational Care Ministers to share with pastors the work of redeeming God s people. During 2014 a model for training Congregational Care Ministers will be developed, and 12 new Congregations Care Ministers will be identified and trained. 2. Inviting the whole congregation to make space in their hearts for others. Currently there are 130 volunteers involved in the Hearts for Hospitality ministry. In the coming year this will be expanded to 160; will create a more developed schedule with greeters in the worship spaces. 3. Providing regular opportunities for healing prayer and anointing. Healing Stations will be provided during churchwide communion services and during Advent. A new regularly scheduled worship service focusing on healing prayer and anointing will be offered, and two worship teams will be developed to provide worship services in selected adult resident communities. 4. Focusing attention on needs of seniors that they themselves are identifying through SAM (Senior Adult Ministry) team. This includes the Second Annual Senior Honors Banquet, A Day of Inspiration for Seniors and continued revitalization of Power Hour.

13 5. The Mosaic Counseling and Wellness Network will continue to be integrated into the culture of care at Christ Church. Individual and family counseling, two weekend recovery retreats (second stage recovery) and two topical classes will be offered. Serving & Outreach 1. Provide 25 wells in Eastern Zambia in partnership with PWC via Water is Life. 2. Engage two CUMC leaders in partnering with ILI to conduct leadership training event in Liberia for pastors and young leaders in the Liberian UMC. 3. Four S&O Equipping Series (homeless neighbors, urban neighbors, Chinese neighbors/partners, refugee/immigrant neighbors) to educate, apprentice and immerse members in cultures where we serve 4. Renew Serving Initiative with 12 personal stories of transformation from missional engagement. 5. Review and refocus our efforts around four affiliated partners (CMDS, SOS, BDC, Cornerstone Prep Lester Campus) plus Jacob s Well as identified in The 7 Initiatives. 6. Train/equip/debrief 100 members serving internationally with our new S&O Team Training Manual. 7. Clearly scheduled calendar defining mission opportunities for 2014 where several are invitational trips and several are

14 challenge level trips. Ideally between five to eight places with around 100 people who have been train/equipped/debriefed with our new S&O Team Training Manual new/first-time members serving Athletics Ministry 1. Host Cup of Nations community outreach centered around soccer. 2. First Challenger baseball league, pairing regular players with special needs players 3. Connect 25 people participating in Athletics Ministry who do not know Jesus or have a home church to Christ and Christ Church.

15 Accountability THE SENIOR PASTOR S COMMITMENT 1. The Senior Pastor will meet monthly with the Ministry Directors at the Executive Team Plus Meeting the first Monday of every month for regular reports on ministry goals. 2. The Senior Pastor will meet at least three times per year with each team for conversation, fellowship and support. THE EXECUTIVE PASTOR S COMMITMENT 1. The Executive Pastor will meet weekly with the Ministry Directors at the Community Life Team meeting for regular reports on ministry goals. 2. The Executive Pastor will meet once a month with each team for conversation, fellowship and support. THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS COMMITMENT 1. The Executive Director of Operations will meet monthly with each Ministry Director to review budget. THE MINISTRY COUNCIL S COMMITMENT 1. The Ministry Council will meet bimonthly to review progress on each team s ministry goals and provide support when needed.
