1 Director of Connect and Grow Ministries Effective: April 2015 Reports to: Senior Pastor, P/SPRC and Benchmark Committee Direct Supervisor Senior Pastor Directly Supervises: Church Members in Ministry Relates to: Custodians, Nursery Staff, Cleaning Service, Clergy, Business & Facilities Manager, Church Secretary and all other program Staff Status: Full-time FLSA: Exempt Salary: $ 40,000 to start - tcp approved annually Benefits: See Personnel Policy Handbook Purpose of the Connect and Grow Ministries Director The purpose of the Director of Connect and Grow Ministries is to develop and maintain a ministry that connects visitors and members into the life, ministries and small groups of the church so that they may grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. Job Summary The Director of Connect and Grow Ministries will be responsible for two major areas of ministry: (1) creating, leading, implementing, coordinating, and sustaining a small-group ministry whose purpose is to help Christians grow to maturity, and (2) creating, leading, implementing, coordinating, and sustaining a system of member assimilation (connecting) that invites visitors to membership in FUMC Bryan and connects members into ministries and small groups. Specific Functions Research, recommend and establish an organizational system of small groups for discipleship Continually evaluate and make adjustments to the small group organizational system Identify and recruit volunteers to serve in small group leadership Create a model of a small group and train leaders for their roles in small groups Coordinate and administrate small groups Institute an electronic sign-up system for small groups (website, social media, sign up etc...) as well as sign-up using communication cards in worship and at welcome center desks Oversee and coordinate all adult small group ministries Establish short and long term goals and objectives for Grow (Small Group) Ministries Effectively communicate goals and implement strategies for their fulfillment Make recommendations for changes in facilities and other ministry systems
2 Research, recommend and establish an assimilation process (from hospitality to membership) that connects people to FUMC and achieves excellence in radical hospitality Continually evaluate and make adjustments to the assimilation process Create an organizational system of hospitality and train volunteers in their roles of service Identify and recruit volunteers to serve in the welcome center/hospitality areas/greeters Oversee and coordinate Connection small group ministries: Hospitality Team, Greeters, etc Maintain welcome center areas and supply with information, gifts, etc Establish short and long term goals and objectives for Connect Ministries Effectively communicate those goals and implement strategies for their fulfillment Make recommendations for changes in facilities and other ministry systems for connecting Prepare a Communication Card each week for worship and other events as needed Oversee, train staff/volunteers to maintain database (Shelby or others) to monitor attendance of guests and members and report this information to pastors/staff Follow up on every guest using a system of letters, contacts, s, etc to continue to be invitational with the goal that guests would be invited to a membership class and become involved in a small group and ministry Provide information to pastors and staff so they may invite members and guests into ministries and/or small groups Publicize and promote Connect and Grow Ministries to the congregation Coordinate with Eikon Student Ministries and FUMC Children s Ministries to insure that parents and students are making connections and are involved in groups to grow Coordinate room assignments with the Administrative Secretary Continually invite all members to be a part of a discipleship group or being moved towards one Serve as a resource to other ministry areas assisting them in creating environments which help people form deeper relationships and a growing relationship with Christ! Essential Functions (See ADA 1990) Responsibilities to Administrative Committees: Church Council Attend meetings and provide reports on the Connect and Grow ministries including connecting guests to membership, members in ministries and small groups. Assist in setting agenda and developing vision Board of Trustees/Endowment Committee
3 Abide by Safe Sanctuary Policy and make sure all volunteers receive safe sanctuary training as required Abide by and enforce Building Use Policy Finance Committee Recommend a budget for Connect and Grow Ministries Track use of funds for ministry to stay within budget Work with the Church Treasurer and Business Manager in accordance with the church s Financial Policies and Procedures Assist in raising funds for the church Pastor/Staff Parish Relations Committee Provide FYI (For Your Information) Reports to the Senior Pastor which may be viewed by the P/SPRC Annual Evaluation Nominations Committee Provide information/attend meetings as needed to provide guidance in the process of identifying members to be involved in ministry Responsibilities for Ministries: Identify gifts in members, equip leaders, enlist volunteers to serve in ministry, organize, administrate, develop, train, and coordinate with other ministries in order to integrate members into the life of FUMC and involve them in the following ministry areas Missions/Service Organize small groups so that each small group has a missions/service component in coordination with the Missions Team Invite, enlist and/or refer members to areas of service and mission in the church Evangelism Be an active and socially engaged member of the Bryan community to establish relationships needed to foster evangelism and represent FUMC. Follow-up and invite visitors to engage in all areas of discipleship ministries of the church. Invite potential members to a membership class Advertise events in the community and at FUMC Seek opportunities to lead others to faith in Christ. Recruit, organize, train and oversee a Greeter ministry involving members and guests Organize and coordinate hospitality ministries (i.e. Welcome Center/Connection Point). Visitor follow-up and membership classes o Monitor Visitor attendance and Follow-Up. Personally insure first-time and repeat visitors are personally contacted to engage them into life in the church
4 o New Member Orientation coordinator. Oversee and invite potential new members to a class that introduces them to membership in First United Methodist Church, Bryan Create and develop all aspects of an assimilation system to bring guests into the life of FUMC Fellowship Arrange for staff, pastors, and members to visit the sick or those in the hospital Refer people to pastoral care in a variety of settings including crisis situations Develop a list of trustworthy counseling services and refer when advisable Support guests/visitors/ members in their life transitions through prayer and guidance Worship Provide gifts, information and update as needed for all guests Provide Media/Make Announcements (including on monitors throughout the week) Any duty assigned during worship Create, organize, staff and invite all guests to Connecting Point Desks in the narthex and CLC Discipleship Create, develop, maintain, evaluate and make adjustments to a small group model of discipleship Develop and maintain relationships with children, youth, & adults of the church/community Coordinate and work together with all other staff and volunteers involved in making disciples with all areas and ages of the church (Youth, Young Adults, Children/Families, 55+) Insist and direct that all teaching of biblical truth is consistent with United Methodist doctrine, theology and polity Evaluate, select and order curriculum consistent with UM doctrine and theology as needed for any small group Invite and train members to be facilitators of small groups as well as other areas of leadership for small groups Assist in Creative Arts Camp, Vacation Bible School, ASK, etc for the purposes of tracking prospective guests and contacting them to connect them to worship and the life of FUMC Contact and Invite members (especially new members) to be in a Sunday School class or small group and contact the SS class leaders or small group leaders to ask them to invite individuals to participate Publicize programs and activities
5 Hispanic Ministry Work in conjunction with the pastor over Hispanic ministry and implement a similar assimilation and welcoming system into Hispanic ministry Building Usage: Schedule & arrange events through our calendar system in coordination with staff Assist in maintaining appearance and maintenance of grounds/facilities Office duties: Welcome guests Answer your phone/maintain phone system Send/Respond to letters, s/social media Coordinate with other staff/pastors and provide information as needed Other Responsibilities: Participate in staff meetings and work with all staff Participate in the implementation of a vision for the church Coordinate events and programs with all staff and clergy Attend pertinent meetings and provide reports as assigned Assist in preparing any church reports Maintain and update computer software and information (SHELBY SYSTEM) Update FUMC Website and use for Connect and Grow ministries (surveys, sign-ups etc..) Use social media Network with other Connect or Evangelism type ministries that are similar All other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor of Arts in Christian ministry preferred. Life and work experience in similar areas of service or Christian ministry. Two years experience in service related employment (desirable) Able to obtain a current Food Handlers License within 6 weeks of securing position Growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ, Christian character and integrity Strong communication skills Ability to exercise discretion/discernment and keep matters confidential Physical Requirement Able to move freely in and out buildings Able to speak in a public forum and through telephones Able to operate all office machines
