Who should apply? We expect ideal applicants to be young adults that have recently graduated with a college degree and are looking for further training before they begin their careers in ministry. Applicants shall have had some prior experience working in ministry. We suggest those interested familiarize themselves with New Covenant s mission, vision, and values prior to applying to make sure you would fit in with who we are as a church.

2 What are the minimum requirements to be considered for an internship? Need to be female, have a college degree, and some prior ministry experience. However, if you feel you have a unique situation, contact us and we will be happy to discuss it with you. Can international interns apply? Yes! We encourage international applicants to apply. The only variation to the application process is that international applicants must apply for a Religious Worker s Visa (R1) from the American Embassy in their country. This can be a lengthy process depending on the country, so we recommend international applicants apply for our internship program 9 months before their potential start date. Part 2: What does New Covenant s program have to offer? How long is the internship program and is the length negotiable? Our internship program is ideally a one year commitment with the possibility of it being lengthened. We want to ensure you are as prepared as possible before you go to the ministry where God leads. We also want to maximize the impact on our students through relationships over time, which is harder with a high turn around rate. Yet we will work with applicants individually to find what is workable and realistic. What will I generally be doing? Meet with the Marks (the youth pastors) once a week for feedback, calendar overview, goal setting, and accountability. Attend staff meetings in the afternoons each Monday (youth dept) and Tuesday (churchwide). Attend monthly Youth Ministry Fellowship--a network of about youth leaders in the greater Cedar Rapids area. Attend Sponsor Meetings (middle school & high school). Help with training of new sponsors. Assist weekly with Wednesday night Youth Group and Sunday School. Could involve teaching, leading a small group, running games, music, etc, depending on your interest & skill level. Assist with leading discipleship groups. Assist in leading on one or two summer youth trips: Student Life - HS High School missions trip Middle School mission trip 6th Grade trip 7th/8th Grade trip Be involved in our Middle School & High School "Sundays" (each group runs big church once a year) Provide feedback on the needs of the kids and creative ideas on how to address them. Attend our college or young adult ministry periodically, so you can be getting fed. Plan special youth activities according to your interest level and ministry needs. Help plan high school and middle school retreats, with guidance from the Marks. Help with administrative work, paperwork, etc. Be a part of tweaking and using a budget. Assist with communicating with kids, parents, and the church body & leadership. Help us critique our church web page and publications to make them more effective. Shadow the Marks in any other areas of ministry that arise, i.e. hospital visits. What happens when I have completed the internship? We desire to see our interns contribute to and lead in the community where God leads them. To that end, we will always be "looking forward," by providing opportunities for interns to discuss how principles learned at New Covenant can be implemented in other ministries. Also, New Covenant Church is a great place to network for future employment, as other churches often communicate their need to us. It has been our experience that New Covenant interns end up in great churches. A good reference from the Marks goes a long way toward ministry placement.

3 Part 3: Is it financially feasible? What is the pay for this internship? This is a one year internship with a weekly pay of $100. Do I have to find my own housing? Generally No. If you are single and coming from out of town we will provide a host home for you. Host homes will provide minimally a room and bathroom and access to kitchen facilities. Can a married person do this internship? Yes! The only additional challenge would be providing your own housing. However, if your spouse works, his/her income might provide the added financial resources. 1-3 bedroom apartments 1-3 miles away from NCBC cost range is from $400 (one small bedroom) to $1000 (2 bedroom). Can I work at the same time? Generally No. Our internship is full-time, and you will be expected to work full-time hours. However, if an "odd-job" pops up that doesn't interfere with your regular schedule that would be allowed. (This would be the exception rather than the norm). Part 4: About New Covenant Bible Church (NCBC) Who is New Covenant Bible affiliated with? New Covenant Bible Church ( is a non-denominational Bible Church. We are affiliated with Serve The City, a network of churches in the Cedar Rapids area committed to serving our community. If you decide to apply, please review the information outlining our theological beliefs below: What does NCBC believe? 1) About God God is the Creator and Ruler of the Universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are equal and are one God. Genesis 1:1,26,27;;3:22;; Psalm 90:2;; Matthew 28:19;; 1 Peter 1:2;; II Corinthians 13:14 2) About Mankind We are all made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. We are all the supreme object of God s creation. Although mankind has tremendous potential for good, we are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called sin. This attitude separates us from God. Genesis 1:27;; Psalm 8:3-6;; Isaiah 53:6;; Romans 3:23;; Isaiah 59:1,2 3) About Eternity We were all created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. The place of eternal separation from God is called Hell. Heaven is the place of eternal union and eternal life with God. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all by dying on the cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven s glory and will return again to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God s offer of forgiveness can we be saved from sin s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment we receive Jesus Christ into our life by faith. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace of God that gives us this security. He is present in the world to make mankind aware of our need for Jesus Christ. He lives in every Christian from the moment of Salvation. He provides the Christian with the power for living, understanding of spiritual truth and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily. 4 8) About the Bible The Bible is God s word to all mankind. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error. II Timothy 3:16, 1:13;; Peter 1:20, 21;; Psalm 119:105, 160, 12:6;; Proverbs 30:5 Can I still have an internship if I don t agree with NCBC s theology? No. We require all interns to have the basic beliefs outlined above. Beyond these essential Christian beliefs, there is room for theological variations. But we would expect respectful expression of any such differences during your internship with us. What are the standards that interns must abide by? NCBC has outlined standards for living above reproach for all NCBC staff. Since interns are considered staff, they will be held to the same standards. Those standards are outlined here: - A Youth Intern s primary support, accountability and fellowship should come through regular involvement in our college class and worship service, not from the Middle or High School ministry itself. - A Youth Intern must demonstrate spiritual maturity: Evidence of a love for God s word, prayer. Must avoid all appearance of evil in speech, dress, and actions. Models positive relationships with authorities, peers, and teens. Able to articulate spiritual depth. Involved in church and accountability. Shows inner conviction and willingness to change. Must be able to clearly present and defend the gospel. Lives a consistently God-honoring lifestyle. - Like other representatives of New Covenant Bible Church, Youth Interns need to be careful about what they publicly portray by their lifestyles, language, Facebook posts, etc. We don t want to be a stumbling block to the gospel in any way. - Youth Interns need to work at being a blessing to parents, not a competitor. - As with all of our youth volunteers, Youth Interns are required to sign a contract of accountability regarding opposite sex relationships. Part 5: Application What does the application process entail? 1) Applicants must submit the Application below to youth@newcovenantbible.org As we search for the right intern, the process will follow the timeline below. We will notify candidates of where they stand. 2) Review application 3) Check references 4) Phone interview with the youth pastors, Mark Eades and Mark Forstrom. 5) After your first or possibly second interview, selected candidates will be invited for a personal on-site visit (if feasable). During such a visit you will meet with the youth pastors, the youth staff, and many of the church staff. (If an on-site visit isn t feasible, we will arrange a personal visit via Skype.) 7) After the personal visit we will shortly notify you if we would like to extend the internship offer to you. 8) Then we will work out the best start date for your internship. Who pays for the cost of my visit to New Covenant? You are responsible for the cost of your visit, whether or not we accept you as an intern.
