1 Christ Church Fulwood Ministry Support Manager Job Description Who We Are We are a church family of about 1,000 people who meet in the south-west of Sheffield. We are a classical evangelical church and believe that the Bible is God s inspired and revealed word and the authority for doctrine within the church. It is God s revelation of all we need in order to know Him through our Lord Jesus Christ. There is, therefore, a strong emphasis on expository Bible teaching in the church and in the many activities that form part of it and radiate from it. We are a parish church seeking to serve our local community. However, the church family is not confined to parish boundaries; the network of relationships through work, leisure and friendships means that the influence of the church family spreads much wider. We have many links within the city, the diocese, further afield in Britain and abroad. The Lord has blessed us with extensive facilities which are in constant use (In addition to the church building itself, the parish has a large church complex and three church houses). We are committed to evangelism and recognise that we need to equip the whole church to participate effectively in this work. The staff team includes the Vicar, Associate Vicar, Director of Ministry, Minister for Training, Student Worker, Senior Youth Worker, Youth worker, Children s worker, Music Co-ordinator, Ministry Support Manager, two Ministry Support Assistants, Accounts Manager, Premises Manager and a number of Ministry Trainees. We are an Anglican church, but the congregation and membership is composed of people from a variety of Christian traditions and denominations, united by the Christcentred, Bible-based teaching and evangelistic outlook of the church. We are concerned about the challenges of our culture, and those facing the Church of England and want to remain faithful to scripture as the revealed word of God. April

2 Ministry Support The mission of the church is dependent on efficient Ministry Support. The office team support, enhance and promote ministry both within the church family and to those we try to reach with the gospel. The office team are the face of Fulwood and are the first contact often for enquirers about Sunday services or wedding services, baptisms or funerals, children s activities or groups for the elderly. It is the weekday welcome desk for the casual enquirer as well as for the many members of the church family who serve the Lord in so many practical and caring ways. Enquirers may just need factual information or sometimes sensitive handling and a listening ear. This vital Reception is handled primarily by our Reception Team who work each weekday morning. The administration team is made up of the Ministry Support Manager, two Ministry Support Assistants and five Reception staff. They are responsible for producing the weekly service and notice sheets, seasonal Church Family News, as well as posters and invitation cards for meetings and services. Co-ordination and communication with all those involved in planning and participating in Sunday services and weekday activities, updates to the web site, managing the bookstall and producing CD s of recorded meetings all fall within the present scope of work. Job Description Working under and in prayerful partnership with the Vicar, Associate Vicar and Director of Ministry to oversee and coordinate the support of ministry across the whole church family of Christ Church, Fulwood. The Manager maintains a firm grasp on the mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives of the church, ensuring that the staff teams are properly supported. They ensure that our systems and practices, responsibly, strategically, and effectively support ministry initiatives. Principal Responsibilities Coordinate and assist in the provision of support to ministry across the whole church family of Christ Church, Fulwood. April

3 Assist in, and develop, the communication of the mission across the church family and beyond, with specific responsibility for: Maintaining and developing the church website Maintaining and developing the promotion of ongoing church ministries and forthcoming events through a variety of appropriate media Overseeing the publication, distribution and accessibility of resources from teaching ministries. Participating in the regular review of the way in which Ministry is supported and assist in the implementation of changes as needed. Provide relational leadership of the ministry staff team responsible for administration and reception. To ensure that administration and reception is in harmony with other ministry areas and the overall mission of the church. This is to be achieved by: Enabling, encouragement, evaluation and exhortation of the admin/reception team. Assisting the Staff Team in fulfilling their ministry goals by helping with their administrative needs. Maintaining efficient and effective lines of communication amongst the reception/admin team and to facilitate the flow of information to aid decision making. Project Managing short-term ministry activities and special events. Planning and co-ordinating the diary of events for the church family. Person Specification The successful applicant will be: committed to supporting the church s mission and ministry with clear evangelical convictions a person of integrity aware of the need for appropriate confidentiality Able to think strategically about how ministry support may be developed in the context of a large church ministry. A self-starter who is a good team player, able to work alongside a gifted staff team Able to co-ordinate, motivate and participate effectively in a team Familiar with administrative processes. Able to demonstrate aptitude in the management of IT in a small business environment. April

4 Proficient in the use of websites and software to produce effective communication ideally with a familiarity and ability in the use of Planning Centre Online and ChurchApp. Able to prioritise and finish tasks within an appropriate time-frame, and in response to deadlines. A personable and good communicator able to work well under pressure and articulate in both written and verbal communication. An effective leader who is able to handle challenging interactions in a godly manner Able to reflect theologically and respond appropriately to diverse ministry requirements. Terms and Conditions Hours and place of work: This is a post with a requirement for flexibility. Actual hours and days worked will be by mutual agreement with the Director of Ministry. The administrative team is based in the church centre and normal office hours are to on weekdays. Attendance and participation in Staff meeting on a Monday afternoon and prayers on Tuesday is expected. Salary: The role is linked to the UCEA Single Pay Spine for Academic and HE Support Staff and is set at 15points on the scale ( 19,802 for 2014) and is paid pro rata dependent on hours worked. In addition an employer s contribution of 14% will be paid into a personal pension scheme. Church salaries are reviewed annually on 1 January. Expenses: Full working expenses will be met by the PCC. Conference fees for annual staff training as agreed with the Director of Ministry. Holiday Entitlement: There is a pro rata entitlement to holidays based on 25 days holiday plus statutory public holidays. Dates to be agreed with the Director of Ministry. Health and Safety: You are required to abide by the Christ Church Fulwood Health and Safety policies. April

5 This appointment requires an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau. Accountability, Grievance and Disciplinary Matters: Responsible to the Director of Ministry, to whom initially matters should be referred, and only if not resolved, to the Vicar and Church Wardens.
