1 Accessing SSL VPN with Mac OS X Requirements -Safari Web Browser -Network Connect link -Windows Remote Desktop for Mac -IP address and login information of PC on Mount Auburn s network -ITS username and password General Instructions Using the Safari web browser on a Mac OS X platform, users can login into the Mount Auburn network via Network Connect through the CareGroup portal. Once logged into the network, Windows Remote Desktop for Mac connects to a specific PC on the network. Please follow these instructions carefully. They are designed for most Mac OS X configurations. It is possible your specific Mac setup may need adjusting in order to access the SSL VPN. If you re having trouble with these instructions, please contact Erik Morrison (emorriso@mah.harvard.edu) in the Mount Auburn IS Department on Clark 3. Important Note: Please make sure the PC into which you are logging is on. Remote log on will not work with a powered off PC.

2 Requirements (detailed) Safari Safari is the standard web browser for Mac OS X and comes pre-installed with every purchased Mac. If you do not have Safari, it can be downloaded here: Network Connect Network Connect is a networking client that allows users to access closed networks through a common internet connection. The link to Network Connect must be added to your Remote Access profile on the Mount Auburn employee portal page. To add the link to your profile, please contact Tom Gallant (tgallant@mah.harvard.edu) and request that Network Connect be added to your CareGroup profile. The Network Connect client only works with the Safari browser. Windows Remote Desktop for Mac Windows Remote Desktop for Mac is a free Microsoft application that allows users to remotely login and control a PC within a closed private network or on a home network. It can be downloaded here: Finding Your PC s Login Information The PC s at Mount Auburn are all assigned a device name, which usually is in the format MTXXNN where XX are a series of letters and NN are numbers. Regardless, the device name can often be found on a piece of paper stuck to the monitor or computer. If the computer is not labeled with a device name, it is often the generic Windows user used to log into the PC. Upon starting up the Mount Auburn computer you should be prompted to select a user. The generic user (in the MTXXNN format above) should be used as the login and password for the PC. For example if the device name is MTFG12, at the Windows prompt enter, User: MTFG12 Password: mtfg12 (note, this may be uppercase) It is possible to log in to your Mount Auburn PC with your ITS username and password. This can be done if your ITS username is setup locally on the PC.

3 Finding Your PC s IP Address In order to log in to your PC from outside Mount Auburn s network, you ll need the PC s IP address and login information. To find your PC s IP address, 1) Startup and log in to the PC (note what username and password you use to log in) 2) Open the Start Menu, and navigate to Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt* *The command prompt can also be opened by typing cmd when selection Run from the Start menu 3) At the Command Prompt, type ipconfig/all 4) The IP address will be listed next to IP Address connection type (see below) 5) The number will be XXX.XXX. Write it down. ITS Username and Password Many Mount Auburn users already have an ITS username and password. This is the same username and password you use to access Outlook. If you do not have an ITS username and password, please contact Jean Scholl in the IS Department (jscholl@mah.harvard.edu ext. 5602)

4 Detailed Instructions Once you acquire the above pieces of software and information, please follow these steps. 1) CareGroup Homepage -Open Safari and navigate to: -Make Mount Auburn Hospital is selected from the hospital drop-down at the top of the page and click on the General tab in the upper right-hand corner. -Click on Remote Access toward the bottom of the page

5 2) CareGroup Portal Login -Log in to the Mount Auburn SSL VPN with your ITS username and password 3) Network Connect Link -Once you ve logged into the SSL VPN, scroll do the bottom of the page to Clinical Application Sessions -Click the Start button next to Network Connect 4) Allow Connection (if applicable) -If the message above pops up, select Allow

6 5) Network Connect Box -The Network Connect box should pop up after the applet loads and starts. Once it does you can minimize its window 6) Use All Function Keys -In order to use Meditech, you must go into your Mac OS X System Preferences and enable the standard function keys by checking off the box shown above. To do this click on the apple in the upper left-hand corner of your Mac s desktop screen, select System Preferences, then select Keyboard & Mouse and check off the Use All F1, F2... box. Remember to uncheck this box when you are finished.

7 7) Remote Desktop IP -Open Remote Desktop Connection for Mac -Enter your Mount Auburn PC s IP address (see instructions above) and click Connect 8) Remote Desktop Connect -If the following message pops up, click Yes

8 9) Logging Into Your PC -If you re using the generic MTXXNN type login, make sure (this computer) is selected in the Log on to: prompt -If you re using your ITS login information, make sure ITS is selected in the Log on to: prompt -If the above message pops up your Mount Auburn PC isn t setup for generic remote access connections. Please contact ext (IS Help Desk) to have your PC setup for remote access.

9 10) Desktop and Logging Out -Once you log in, you should see your Mount Auburn PC s desktop (often without the background image). Depending on your home internet connection, there may be lag time when clicking and typing. -Be sure to log out of our PC when you have finished. Go to the Start menu and select Log Off -Once you ve logged out of your PC, you should Sign Out of Network Connect.
