1 Washinton State Suicide Prevention in Hiher Education Conference September 28 & 29, 2015 University of Puet Sound, Tacoma, WA Presented by Forefront at the University of Washinton, in partnership with the Washinton State Department of Health and with enerous fundin from SAMHSA.
2 Conference Backround Forefront: Innovations in Suicide Prevention is based at the University of Washinton School of Social Work. Forefront advances comprehensive approaches to suicide prevention throuh policy chane, professional trainin, campus and school-based interventions, media outreach, and support for persons affected by suicide. In late 2014, the Washinton State Department of Health (DOH) received a Garrett Lee Smith state youth suicide prevention rant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). As a component of this rant, Forefront is rateful to partner with DOH to present the inauural Washinton State Suicide Prevention in Hiher Education Conference, which will take place every year for the next five years. Location The conference location is the Trimble Forum at the University of Puet Sound in Tacoma, WA. Trimble Forum is located in the center of campus, west of the Wheelock Student Center and south of Howarth Hall. Recommended parkin is in the lot located on the southeast corner of North Alder and North 14th Street. Proram The first day of the conference (September 28) consists of speakers and breakout sessions led by leaders in the field of student behavioral health and campus suicide prevention. Day 2 of the conference (September 29) will be a subsidized all-day trainin in Assessin & Manain Suicide Risk (AMSR) specifically for campus behavioral health professionals. This meets the suicide prevention trainin requirement for behavioral health professionals under Washinton state law, per the Matt Adler Act of Keynote Speakers Dr. Donn Marshall, is the Associate Dean of Students and Director of Counselin, Health & Wellness Services at the University of Puet Sound. He has been on staff at Puet Sound since Donn earned his doctorate in Counselin Psycholoy from the Ohio State University in 1988 after completin his pre-doctoral psycholoy internship at Southern Illinois University. A licensed psycholoist, Donn is a frequent contributor at reional and national conferences, presentin on a wide rane of issues includin sexual assault prevention, men and masculinity,
3 sexual/affective identity, internet abuse and addictions, suicide prevention, and the clinical assessment of suicidality. Dr. Jason Kilmer received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psycholoy from the University of Washinton in 1997, and currently works at the University of Washinton in both a student affairs and a research capacity. Jason is an Associate Professor in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and serves as an investiator on several studies evaluatin prevention and intervention efforts for alcohol and other dru use by collee students. He is also the Assistant Director of Health and Wellness for Alcohol and Other Dru Education in the Division of Student Life, workin with different areas across campus (includin health, counselin, Greek life, residence life, and intercolleiate athletics) to increase student access to evidence-based approaches. Jason also serves as the chairperson of Washinton's Collee Coalition for Substance Abuse Prevention. Jason was the 2014 recipient of the National Prevention Network s Award of Excellence for outstandin contributions to the field of prevention.
