This program is designed for anyone who is being asked to manage, supervise or lead a team. What You Can Expect to Learn: In-class exercises and discussions will help you become a more successful manager. Topics include managing your staff and your boss, learning how your role affects the bottom line, effective communication methods and becoming a catalyst for change. Requirements for the Management Certificate: To qualify, you must complete eight courses: Five required courses below, plus three courses selected from the list of electives on the following pages. These courses are open to anyone who wishes to develop their business skills and can be taken individually or as part of one of the Certificate programs. Electives vary each semester. CBEL Tuesday & Thursday, 6:30-9:30 p.m., March 3, 5 Legally Dismissing the Unsatisfactory Performer Many supervisors and managers fear that they cannot terminate insubordinate or underperforming employees because of the potential for legal retaliation. This is a sensitive issue that requires knowledge and skill. Who needs to be involved? What issues must be raised or avoided? At the completion of this course you will know how to legally dismiss a problem employee with fairness and in line with corporate polices. At the conclusion of this one-day course, you will have a toolbox filled with strategies for conflict resolution in the workplace. You will learn about the culture of conflict, how to identify sources of conflict, the difference between negotiation and mediation, how to harness conflict as a source for creativity and, most importantly, how to resolve conflict in a way that satisfies all. Learn how to handle complaints concerning sexual harassment and discrimination, the day-to-day implications of the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and new laws such as the Affordable Health Care Act. 6 Call ESL Instructor Certificate Develop skills to enter the field of teaching English to speakers of other languages (ESL) and join a profession that is in high demand and personally rewarding. Who Should Attend? People who would like to enter the field of teaching English to non-native speakers and current ESL instructors who would like to develop professionally with new ideas, resources and activities will benefit from this program. Who Will You Be Qualified to Teach? You will be a viable candidate to teach ESL courses in the non-credit arena in the U.S. and overseas. This program does not qualify you to teach in the K-12 environment. Requirements for the ESL Teacher Certificate: To qualify for the ESL Teacher Certificate, you must complete the 10 required courses listed below.
