Course Description: Digital Media Design and Production course teach students the fundamentals of graphic design and production and provide students with the opportunity to apply these principles to printed media, digital presentation media, and interactive media. Required Textbooks, Reference, and Other Materials: Folder, pencil Methods of Instruction: A variety of instruction strategies will be used to teach Introduction to Art. Lecture, discussion, demonstration, hands-on, video, power points, guest speakers, etc Methods of Student Evaluation and Grading Scale: Students will get a daily participation grade of 5 points per day. It is entered weekly as a 25 point grade. There will also be occasional grades for items such as sketchbook sketches, worksheets, material checks, and notes. The bulk of the student s grade will come

2 from Projects. Most projects will be graded using a rubric, followed by a group critique. Detailed Course Outline: Week 1 Day 1: Discuss Rules, Expectations, Procedures, Grading & Supplies Google Drive Accounts & Web Scavenger Hunt; plus Bonus Opportunities Day 2-3: Pass out Manila Folders Discuss purpose of folder, Discuss artist portfolios & artist growth Decorate Manila Folders- Lego Man Themed Avatar-Self Identity/Expression Draw Light Until You Know it s Right. How to Color Correctly With Colored Pencils & Markers. What is Craftsmanship, and How Neatness Effect Grades? Important to Graphic Designers because Day 4: Supply/Materials Check: Notebook, pen/pencil Define Color Theory & Psychology Vocab in notebook- Take notes about Microsoft word-how to resize, position, add effects, etc File Types Project: Turn in tweaked web scavenger hunt Must have scavenger hunt images arranged into appealing layout, must be in color, Title must have drop shadow/effects/neatness COUNTS! 6 Assessment Rubric Assignment: Lego Me Avatar-Folder Cover Date Completed: Criteria 1 Student created a lego themed avatar. Drawing LIGHTLY created a face, clothes, accessories. Criteria 2 Student correctly used colored pencil and markers to decorate their lego avatar folder cover. NO WHITE SPACES. Criteria 3 Student glued avatar neatly to folder cover. Student included name on folder. Signed bottom right corner.
