1 Course Information: HCS Curriculum: Arts, Visual 6 - Hoover City Schools Secondary Curriculum Arts, Course Title: Digital Photography Grade Level: Course Description: In this course the student will be introduced to the many technical aspects of modern day digital photography and digital photo manipulation. Students will become proficient in the use of professional digital SLR cameras as well as professional photography studio equipment. Students will utilize the photography editing software, Adobe Photoshop CS to manipulate their photography, and to create meaningful artistic photographs. This course includes a study of the elements of art and principles of design associated with digital photography and the application of those elements to real-world problems. Students will learn the history, vocabulary, and artists associated with photography and digital collage. Students will create a digital portfolio of their work in this course. This course is very technical, and incoming students should already have a proficient level of computer knowledge as well as a high interest in the subject matter. Student works will also reveal a conscious application of art elements and design principles. # Unit Objectives Use selection tools in Photoshop to separate objects from their original context. Save the objects as separate files to be used in the photo montage. Create a photo montage that organizes the subject matter and formal qualities into a meaningful and expressive composition. Students will learn to invert the images and then to use them to create a digital collage that uses newly learned techniques in Photoshop. # Unit Objectives 6 7 Use a scanner to digitize traditionally processed photos Create a digital collage that uses pinhole photographs as source material. Produce a self-critique of the work in progress. Use knowledge of art elements and principles to guide your aesthetic decisions when creating a work of art. Use knowledge of art elements and design principles to defend your aesthetic decisions in an informal oral critique. List several contributors to the art form of portrait photography and compare the art form with other types of portraiture. Create a contact sheet of the photo session using Photoshop. Edit the best photograph to produce a black and white image that captures the uniqueness of the model. Produce a colorized version of the original black and white image. Describe the characteristics of portraiture from a variety of historical periods and cultural groups. Students will be familiar with Moorish examples as well as the work of M.C. Escher. # Unit 8 Objectives Create several types of tessellations using Photoshop. Compare tessellations to geometric shapes and designs. Explain the influence of Moorish tessellations to the work of M. C. Escher. Explain industrial applications for tessellations. Participate in an oral critique of the work of your peers.
