1 APRIL 2015 It was great to see many of you at the Annual Meeting. We hope you learned a little more about your credit union, and found the updates on our future direction informative. Mayor Kirk Caldwell and City Council Chair Ernie Martin honored us with speeches on the benefits of credit union membership. We d like you to know that we are moving our Las Vegas branch to 9555 South Eastern Avenue in the Richmar Plaza shopping mall in Henderson. We believe that moving to Henderson will provide better access for more of our members. The branch relocation is anticipated for the Fall of this year. We are looking at refreshing the look and feel of our branches to improve the branch experience. Upgraded technology will allow staff to attend to members needs with more personalized service. The financial reality fair at Waipahu High School was a great success. We plan to offer this free program to other schools. Let us know if your school is interested or contact us for more information. If you would like to be considered for a Masami Oishi Memorial Scholarship, please submit your application by April 27. Hope to see you at our upcoming Family Day on May 3, for a screening of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Mahalo! Vince J. Otsuka PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Vince J. Our March 17 Annual Meeting at McCoy Pavilion was a great success, thanks to the nearly 400 members who attended and APFCU execs, staff and volunteers who organized and assisted at the event. It was an exciting meeting, with more than a dozen informational and product tables hosted by SEGs (Select Employee Groups) that included Costco Hawaii Kai, Poncho s Solar, Partners in Development and Kupuna Care Hawaii and Members gathered in the McCoy Pavilion s auditorium for APFCU s 77 th Annual Meeting on March 17. And the door prizes, featuring more than 60 items several donated by our participating SEGs were a hit! The grand prize, GETTING REAL AT WAIPAHU HIGH SCHOOL It was a wonderful learning experience for everyone involved. Nearly 200 Waipahu High School students took part in a Get Real Financial Reality Fair in late February to learn about budgeting and the many financial choices and necessities in the real world. And Aloha Pacific FCU executives and staffers were thrilled to assist and were (continued on page 4) APFCU President & CEO Vince J. Otsuka congratulated member Cary Murakami, who won the grand prize of a $1,000 Hawaiian Airlines gift card. impressed by the students enthusiasm and thoughtfulness. The fair was presented by Matanuska Valley Federal Credit Union, which is based in Alaska but also has a branch in Waipahu. This was the first time a fair was held in Hawaii, with Matanuska FCU staffers (continued on page 2)

Each also had to decide how much to spend on daily living items such as housing, groceries, clothing, entertainment, health insurance and transportation all while keeping within their household income. It was a shock for many to find out how hard that could be, especially when they were forced to choose between needs and wants. Many thanks to Waipahu High School and Matanuska Valley FCU for allowing APFCU to be part of this eye-opening fair! We hope to carry on with similar fairs for high schools on Oahu. In today s news, Superfish doesn t have a big S on his chest, or care about truth or justice. It s dangerous malware (malicious soft ware) that was pre-installed on some Lenovo computers shipped between September 2014 and February If you have Superfish installed, you need to remove it immediately. Even if you don t own a Lenovo, the recent Superfish problem provides a lesson for all of us. Lenovo is not the only company that s paid to include what the industry refers to as bloatware (or junkware, or much worse) on new computers. Adware software that helps companies advertise to you via popups and other means has been around almost as long as home computers. But in addition to being a nuisance, some adware can be dangerous because they go way beyond showing you passive ads. Without your knowledge, adware can also actively track and report your web browsing habits and other private information. If you don t need bloatware on your computer or smartphone, get rid of it. Avoid the temptation to click on links to free offers or fake contest winnings, which are common ways bloatware companies (and hackers) trick you into installing their junk on to your machine. For links to more online information about Superfish and bloatware in general, please go to the BULLE- TINS section of alohapacific.com. 3
