1 Frequently Asked Questions Plus What s New for CA Application Performance Management 9.7 CA Technologies is announcing the General Availability (GA) of CA Application Performance Management (CA APM) 9.7 which is GA as of December 19, What is CA APM 9.7? With the CA APM 9.7 release, CA introduces its E.P.I.C. APM strategy, a solution that creates a competitive advantage in the application economy by proactively managing the user experience. CA APM 9.7 is the first proof point in our E.P.I.C. APM strategy, starting an E.P.I.C. trend that will build with each new release. E.P.I.C. APM delivers a solution that is Easy, Proactive, Intelligent and Collaborative (E.P.I.C.) across the application lifecycle. This means easy deployment of APM agents, including PHP, to get value in minutes. It provides automatic visibility into each native mobile or web-based transaction. It obtains intelligence and insight of end-users interactions with your applications, from native mobile to mainframe. E.P.I.C. APM also acts as the catalyst for DevOps to fuel collaboration across the organization by providing a common vocabulary to analyze performance data, thereby instilling continuous performance improvements at every stage of the software lifecycle. Example of Easy Simplify management for thousands of agents with a central repository of all agent configurations and meta-data across all your APM clusters. Example of Proactive View both mobile and synthetic transaction data in a single APM dashboard and link those transactions to the underlying infrastructure. Example of Intelligent Automatically collect transaction traces when a problem occurs no need to re-create the issue with patent-pending analytics that remove the need for application expertise. Example of Collaboration Enable better communication between Dev and Ops specialists to resolve problems faster by utilizing the same production tool in development and with a unified view of the infrastructure and apps that affect business services. What is CA APM releasing in December 2014? The CA APM 9.7 launch includes three release vehicles, including: The CA APM 9.7 release, which will be generally available on December 19, The PHP agent release, which will be generally available on December 19, The APM Command Center release, which will be released under controlled availability by the end of December 2014, with GA scheduled in Spring 2015.
2 2 CA APM 9.7: FAQS AND WHAT S NEW By decoupling these features into separate releases, CA APM can release components when they re ready and not as a multi-gigabyte monolithic download. The decision to stage these releases was made to enable us to go to market more quickly with key features and to build upon them more quickly, without waiting to bundle them into larger overall APM releases. It also ensures solid quality for follow-on releases. Are CA APM 9.7 customers entitled to the PHP and the APM Command Center releases, or will there be a separate charge for each release? All 9.7 customers are entitled to the PHP and APM Command Center releases via download, free of charge. CA APM December 19, 2014 MongoDB Support Already Available Smart Instrumentation: Automatic Transaction Traces Mobile APM One-Click Role-Relevant Notifications CA became a certified partner with MongoDB in November This certification: Exposes the MongoDB metrics for 20/20 insight into your apps Leverages the capabilities of CA APM all the way through the database for evidence collection and rapid triage Integrates MongoDB metrics into CA APM for intelligent analytics, alerting and visibility on a single dashboard CA APM 9.7 builds on the deep transaction tracing available in 9.6 by making it automatic and proactive. The Smart Instrumentation in 9.7 will: Automatically collect transaction traces when a problem occurs, so there is no need to re-create the issue. Provide stall snapshots with deep call stack visibility that shows actionable info. Trigger traces based upon customized criteria, errors and stalls. With automatic transaction tracing, rapid application triage doesn t require in-depth knowledge of the application or the need to modify instrumentation. CA APM 9.7 brings full integration of CA Mobile App Analytics into the CA APM AppMap dashboard to provide end-to-end business transaction monitoring from mobile-to-mainframe. CA Mobile App Analytics provides key information on the mobile transaction. You can know the carrier, network, device, location, along with usage behavior, performance and crash analytics. But when an issue occurs, you need to link mobile experience to the underlying data center performance. CA APM 9.7 enables the integration of CA Mobile App Analytics to provide true mobile to mainframe insight. APM practitioners can now see mobile transactions, alongside synthetic transactions, in CA APM. The integration delivered by CA APM 9.7 traces the transaction through your infrastructure. Business transaction names and meta-data information will now be available in the CA APM AppMap, Investigator and transaction traces. With CA APM you will receive alerts with rich content that explain the urgency of a problem and contain actionable content. This context-aware notification feature: Provides better communication between specialists to resolve problems faster Ensures you are only one-click away to link into the alert and/or metric triggering the problem Provides context to understand the alert more completely, explains actions you could take and provides links to whatever is most relevant All of the above will enable you to pinpoint and resolve issues more quickly.

CA APM 9.7 adds a refined, out-of-the-box ABA configuration file to act as a metric filter so that you can analyze the data that matters most to help you make the best decisions. CA Unified Infrastructure Management (CA UIM), formerly known as CA Nimsoft Monitor, is integrated into the CA APM dashboard, eliminating the need to log into two different dashboards to view application and infrastructure status. You will get the big picture with a unified view of the infrastructure and apps that impact business services. The integration in CA APM 9.7 adds CA UIM as an infrastructure data source for CA APM for: End-to-end visibility of business transactions Real end-user experience and defects in context of the transaction Top-to-bottom visibility across all infrastructure Application health and synthetic response Quick triage to root cause whether due to code, network or supporting infrastructure CA Release Automation, previously known as CA LISA Release Automation, enables collection of application and performance data at every part of the app lifecycle enhancing your ability to address issues: Evaluate the manifest of an application to be deployed and optionally add APM monitoring agentry to that application prior to it being deployed. CA Release Automation deploys the monitoring components pre-configured to start monitoring as soon as the application starts. The monitoring agents start up as the application starts and reports performance metrics to existing managers right away. The APM agentry can all be installed all hands off. The high performance Transaction Impact Monitor (TIM): Gives you the ability to keep up with performance requirements of modern apps, such as PHP Potentially reduces cost (TCO) by as much as one third, with no need to use a traffic splitter Isolate problems faster from dashboards by: Filtering metrics by agents Customizing linkage visualization and technology components grouping Reusing predefined performance summary views RTTM enables APM CEM users to report in real-time on the performance of user groups for a specific business transaction. RTTM provides real-time business transaction data broken down by: User Group: RTTM user group breakdown is dynamic so that an individual user ID is not stuck to same group for every session. Application RTTM agent(s) Security by application is improved as RTTM metrics can be assigned to a specific CA Introscope domain.

You will receive warnings when the performance of PHP-based applications degrade, so you can triage issues and find out poorly performing PHP method calls. For example, support technicians will be able to trigger a transaction trace when notified that their PHP-based website has crossed defined performance levels. APM Command Center Release Controlled Availability by End December 2014; GA in Spring 2015 APM Command Center The APM Command Center enables simple management of thousands of agents at enterprise scale. A new, integrated UI increases ease-of-use. CA APM 9.7 includes a central repository of all agent configurations and meta-data, providing visibility to every agent, across clusters, in a single view. You will also be able to see all the environmental information and generate diagnostic reports to diagnose agent configuration problems. With the integration of CA Mobile App Analytics into the CA APM dashboard, will CA APM 9.7 customers get the capability of CA Mobile App Analytics free with the upgrade to 9.7? No. CA Mobile App Analytics is a separate product that was released under GA in September As a separate software product, it has to be purchased separately. CA APM 9.7 enables the correlation of mobile transactions captured from CA Mobile App Analytics to the backend infrastructure. Can existing CA APM customers on active maintenance upgrade directly to 9.7? Yes. The latest product versions are available to current customers on CA Support Online. Customers on CA APM 8.x or CA APM 9.0.x Customers on CA APM 9.1.x or Higher Customers Who Build and Support Mobile Apps Customers with older versions of CA APM are strongly encouraged to upgrade to CA APM 9.7 release. The features and benefits of 9.7 not only enable faster triage but with increased visibility and significant automation can reduce cost of ownership. Mobile app use is increasing rapidly. Customers supporting mobile apps are strongly encouraged to upgrade to 9.7 to benefit from the mobile to mainframe visibility available through the integration with CA Mobile App Analytics.
