11 ITT Stories Partnership with Ministry of Environmental Protection ITT Cup China Junior Water Prize Objective Improve the environmental awareness of young Chinese students Inspire Chinese students passion and interest in water science Practices Partner with Ministry of Environmental Protection Co-host China Junior Water Prize Contest with the government for seven years Provide funding and water experts to work with government officials to review and score submitted works ITT sponsors implement students ideas if proven feasible and effective Sponsors the winners of the China contest to participate in the Stockholm competition Outcome Increased participation from students and schools. The competition has becoming an important and well known national contest in the area of environmental education. Larger interest from students and schools in this competition and the water issues that it addresses. This national focus generates high-quality innovative water solution projects from participants. 12 ITT Stories Partnership with China Women s Development Foundation Love of the Earth Water Cellar for Mothers Objective Solve the drinking water problem for western farmers Allow rural women and their families more time and energy to devote to their other tasks such as education and employment Help China s rural economies development Practices Organize fund-raisers and volunteers to construct water cellars and small, central water supply projects for families in droughtstricken areas in western China ITT donated RMB420,000 between 2007 and 2008 ITT s donation in 2007 helped build water cellars in Dakulue Village, Inner Mongolia Outcome Raised RMB116 million in donations for western China's poverty-stricken areas Constructed over 80,000 rain-collection water cellars and setup over 1,000 small water-supply centers which continue to benefit over 700,000 people June 3,
13 ITT Stories Partnership with China Women s Development Foundation Objective Address the challenges of students and their families in China s rural areas who lack access to safe portable water Enhance the awareness of water conservation and water reuse among students in remote areas with little water knowledge Practices Work with China s public sector and local communities to identify areas in need Provide safe water facilities and education to children and families in need Advise local public sector on charitable student programs Outcome Over 3,000 students and their families in need received safe drinking water, toilets and education on sanitation and water facilities ITT Watermark Yunnan projects addressed unhealthy hygiene practices and demonstrated safe and healthy water use to the local community June 3,
