Supporting Schools Inspiring Families NourishinG Kids MORE NUTRITION IN EVERY BITE

Our mission is to improve children s nutrition by supporting schools and inspiring families. Given the right opportunities, kids get excited about fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and other nutritious whole foods. Our Goals Help kids learn to love fresh, nutritious, whole foods Increase access to and consumption of veggies and fruits in schools Inspire families to prepare and share veggies and fruits at home Encourage community action that supports healthier kids Create support tools for schools to present healthy choices What We Do Our initiatives reach parents, educators and children. Salad bar grants in partnership with Let s Move Salad Bars to Schools School garden grants in partnership with FoodCorps Nutrition and cooking education for teachers in partnership with FoodFight Support for TheLunchbox.org online tools to help school cafeterias serve more fresh veggies and fruits

Growing Health at School Whole Kids Foundation created the Garden Grant Program in partnership with FoodCorps to help schools implement or enhance school gardens and related activities in any setting: urban or rural, indoors or out, in the windowsill, on the wall or in the schoolyard. This program has raised more than $2 million in grant funds and made thousands of school garden projects possible. Why We Dig School Gardens No matter where you plant them, gardens help kids understand that food doesn t come from a can or a box but from the magic of a seed. They also: Address childhood obesity risk factors identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Provide active, hands-on learning opportunities that relate to core academic subjects Provide opportunities to learn about sustainability and conservation Encourage physical activity Encourage kids to try new, fresh foods Help kids learn about farming and to understand and appreciate food systems Create opportunities for teamwork and community building FoodCorps is a nationwide team of leaders that connects kids to real food and helps them grow up healthy. Learn more at FoodCorps.org

Salad Bars to Schools Together with Let s Move Salad Bars to Schools we have provided more than 2,500 salad bars to schools. We provide salad bar equipment and training tools to schools that helps improve access to fresh fruits & vegetables. Building Blocks for A Better LunchRoom In partnership with the Food Family Farming Foundation, we developed TheLunchBox.org. Hundreds of school districts use these free online tools including recipes, purchasing guides and kitchen training videos to improve the nutrition of their lunch programs. Empowering Healthy Teachers The Whole Kids Foundation Healthy Teachers Program, created in partnership with FoodFight, helps educators improve their personal health and wellness, so they can be the healthiest role models possible. We currently offer nutrition and cooking classes in select cities with plans to expand in the coming year. Classes promote a simple philosophy, complete with recipes and shopping tips that are an easy fit for a teacher s lifestyle: Eat a rainbow of colors Eat greens first Choose foods that are as close to nature as possible FoodFight.org

Helping Families Pack More Nutrition In Every Bite We are dedicated to making healthy choices more fun (and less work) for families. Our hands-on activities provide fun and easy conversation starters and offer simple, small changes that bring a big nutrition bonus. Making Good Choices Fun Awesome Eats FREE from itunes! is a fun food game with learning baked right in. Kids sort, pack and plate fruits and veggies, win stars, score points, encounter surprising challenges (thieving birds!) and get loads of healthy eating tips along the way. ScrapKins hands-on recycled art projects engage the right and left sides of the brain while helping parents start conversations about healthy choices. Find projects at WholeKidsFoundation.org. Better Bites, an online resource at WholeKidsFoundation.org, provides bite-sized, easy-to-digest lessons, tips and recipes that help families make the most of every bite at meals and snack time.

Get involved There are so many ways to get involved and make an impact in your community: Make a donation * to Whole Kids Foundation online or text SALAD to Apply for a salad bar or garden grant at WholeKidsFoundation.org Spread the word through local media, social media and face-to-face in your community Become an official sponsor or partner Volunteer at your local school: plant a garden, teach a cooking class, start a health and wellness club, etc. Our founder, Whole Foods Market pays our operating costs so every dollar raised goes straight to programs that make a direct impact on kids, communities and schools. To learn more about our programs, partners and available grants, visit WholeKidsFoundation.org. * Whole Kids Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization.
