1 Flintshire Community Endowment Fund Where philanthropy meets community A Fund for Flintshire at the The Community Foundation in Wales Registered Charity Company Number

2 Connecting people who care with causes that matter in Flintshire Hailed as the Gateway to Wales, Flintshire is a beautiful county featuring magnificent coastline, rolling countryside and vibrant market towns. With over 1,000 charities and community groups in the county, it has a thriving voluntary and community sector with a strong commitment to making a difference to local people s lives. Yet there are pockets of deprivation and poverty. Within Flintshire, 11% of wards are amongst the top 20% most deprived in Wales, and rural communities have hidden needs such as lack of services and employment. Recognising the value of community groups and charities in addressing local needs, and the importance of encouraging local giving, Flintshire County Council transferred a number of charitable assets to initiate this inspiring county Fund. Grants made from this element of the Fund will honour the charitable objectives of the original benefactors, and therefore have a focus on supporting the educational attainment of young people. We want this Fund to act as a catalyst for growth in philanthropy in Flintshire. It is an opportunity for local people to give something back to the communities they love either through a general donation or setting up their own Named Funds. As the Flintshire Community Endowment Fund grows grants will be awarded to applicants aiming to strengthen local communities under the five main themes outlined below. The Flintshire Community Endowment Fund helps people who want to make a difference by... Gathering donations and targeting funding to meet needs and strengthen communities in Flintshire Working with local people to advise on grant making decisions Awarding grants to grass roots groups and projects which often fall under the radar of funders and donors Supporting the educational aspirations of young people 02 The Flintshire Community Endowment Fund is... A long-term source of funding for community groups and charities across the county of Flintshire A catalyst to promote and manage local philanthropy A ring-fenced Fund for Flintshire at the Community Foundation in Wales Grants fall under the five broad themes Enabling young people and promoting education, enterprise & life-long learning 2. Building cohesion and confidence in communities 3. Improving physical and mental health 4. Nurturing heritage and culture 5. Protecting our environment

3 Building skills, confidence and friendships in a safe and fun environment is important for all young people. Philanthropy in Action - North Wales Super Kids A recent Foundation grant to North Wales Super Kids is a great example of how one local project has achieved this in Flintshire. The group runs arts and crafts projects for young people in disadvantaged rural areas in the county, as well as organising activities in times of desperate need. Our grant provided additional arts and crafts equipment and workshops, benefiting children suffering from domestic issues or deprivation. The funded project has also provided local volunteers and student placements with important experiences to help them build on their education and employability skills. I have learned so much from volunteering. It s great to see smiles amongst the paint splatters! This experience has really opened my eyes socially and educationally. Young volunteer With your support, groups such as this can have access to a sustained, local Fund to help them thrive. 03

4 How can I make a difference in Flintshire? Everyone can help to make a difference - individuals & families, businesses & organisations, and trusts. Your donation to this endowment fund is a gift which keeps on giving, making an impact now and into the future. Giving to the Flintshire Community Endowment Fund is easy, efficient and effective Make a single gift or regular donation Leave a legacy in your will Set up your own Fund at the Community Foundation in Wales You advise on its aims and beneficiaries, and you decide whether to make this an Endowment Fund a gift which keeps on giving, or an Immediate Impact Fund a gift which is distributed today. The Foundation s philanthropy team will work with you to make sure your giving makes the impact you want to achieve. Your named Fund can be established with a minimum donation of 25,000. Celebrate an anniversary, a success, your life or a loved one... make a gift to your community in Flintshire Make A Donation Complete the donation form today or find more details on the Foundation s website Your Philanthropy To discuss your giving, please contact the philanthropy team at the Community Foundation in Wales on or visit Thank you for supporting needs in neighbourhoods and communities across Flintshire Community Foundation in Wales The Community Foundation in Wales is a charity that promotes and manages philanthropy. It connects donors with do-ers, awarding 2 million each year in grants to inspirational grass-roots community groups and charities on behalf of its clients and donors. Last year we awarded 401 grants to individuals, charities and community groups, whose work is supported by over 6,600 volunteers and benefits more than 40,300 people across Wales. 04
