WORKPLACE GIVING with Plan International Australia
EMPOWERING CHILDREN CAN CHANGE THE WORLD 1. There are one billion boys and girls living in poverty right now. That s nearly every second child on earth. 2. 4,000 children die needlessly each day from preventable diseases caused by poor sanitation, inadequate hygiene and unclean water. 3. Every year, 10 million girls are forced into marriage before their 18th birthday that s one every three seconds. Without access to their most basic rights, like education, clean water and play, these children are likely to pass poverty on to their own children. And so they cycle continues. Today, you can help change this. You can empower children to break the cycle of poverty. Reach their full potential. Transform communities. And most importantly, create change that s both immediate and lasting. ABOUT PLAN Plan is one of the oldest and largest children's development organisations in the world. We work with communities in 50 developing countries and raise funds to support our work in 21 countries like Australia. By actively involving children, and working at a grassroots level with no religious or political affiliations, we unite and inspire people around the globe to transform the world for children. ISSUES WE FOCUS ON We work to ensure children have access to their rights across these key areas: Child Development Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Ensuring children get the best possible start to life. Education Free and equal access to quality education. Safe drinking water and hygienic sanitation. Making a Living Building families incomes, assets and resilience. Emergencies Helping communities prepare for disasters and providing life-saving assistance when they strike. Food and Families Families meeting the basic needs of their children. Rights in the Community Ensuring children and their families know their rights. Front cover: A girl attends a Plan supported school in India. Previously many girls would have been left out of education, instead helping their mothers with daily chores. This page: A young girl waits for class to start at her Plan-supported school. Plan started working in Myanmar in 2012, with a strong focus on education programs for boys and girls.
WHAT IS WORKPLACE GIVING? Workplace Giving is the simple process of making a regular tax-deductable donation through your payroll system. It is one of the most cost effective ways to donate, allowing you to extend your reach and help more children in need. HOW DOES IT WORK? Your workplace needs to have a payroll system that enables your payroll manager to deduct a donation from your pay. If this system in place, your donation automatically comes out of your pre-tax salary. This can mean you pay less tax, and it also eliminates the need to collect receipts or wait until the end of year to claim a tax refund on your donation. You ll also get a tax saving straight away. WORKPLACE GIVING WITH PLAN By getting involved in Workplace Giving with Plan, you can make a real and lasting difference to children around the world. All you need to do is follow these simple steps and you can start making a difference straight away. the Workplace 1. Download Giving form: Plan.org.au Donate Become a business partner or us at partnerships@plan.org.au the form to your 2. Give Payroll Officer and let them know that you would like to participate in Workplace Giving 3. a copy of the form to Plan at partnerships@plan.org.au and advise us you re donating via workplace giving. We will then send you an information pack about how you are making a difference. 4. Be proud! MATCH IT! $$ Some employers will match your donation, so together you make twice the impact. Ask your employer if this is something they ll consider. Boys from a small Plan-supported community in Cameroon play a game.
SPONSOR A CHILD HOW DO YOU WANT TO CHANGE THE WORLD? It s up to you for workplace giving there are two ways you can make a difference. Sponsor a child Every child has the right to a life free from poverty. When you sponsor a child through Plan, your donations are funding life-changing projects in your child s community projects that make it possible for all the children in that community to access their basic rights such education, protection and health. How child sponsorship works? When you sponsor a child you ll receive photos of your child and some background information so you can get to know their story. You will be able to write to your sponsored child online (through your MyPlan account) or through the post. Your child will then write back to you about their life and you can continue to communicate and build a long-lasting relationship. You can even visit your sponsored child and their family to see how your sponsorship has changed their lives. You ll also receive Global Child magazine and regular e-newsletters with articles about our work in the developing world Why sponsor a child through Plan? We stand up for child rights and believe all children have the right to realise their true potential and build a better future for themselves. We have no political or religious affiliations. We work with the entire community to develop long-term sustainable solutions to overcome poverty and promote child rights. Children are at the heart of everything we do. Plan helps children access their right to education. Here, children are engaged in creative play and are enjoying their day at a Plan-supported school.
SUPPORTER OF CHANGE Supporter of Change is a global movement one that s empowering children across Asia, Africa and the Pacific to build a brighter future. As a Supporter of Change you will help fund projects across the globe, where they re needed most such as an early learning centre in Ethiopia, or a water and sanitation program in Cambodia. You ll help Plan kick-start permanent change so that children can access their rights, overcome poverty and empower entire communities. You ll receive: special reports and regular updates on the projects you re supporting and powerful stories from the children and communities who are benefiting Global Child magazine with articles about our work in the developing world Information on campaigns, events and advocacy opportunities that you can get involved in Regular e-newsletters Caption... You can make a difference through workplace giving by donating $20 or more per month.
Madame Houwau (pictured in yellow) plays games with children from a small community in Cameroon. Houwau is the president of a Plan-partner organisation that is working to promote equal access to education for girls and boys in Yaounde, Cameroon. WORKPLACE GIVING WORKS FOR WHATEVER OPTION YOU EVERYONE CHOOSE, EVERYONE BENEFITS. EMPLOYEES You can be confident that your donation will have a lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable children. With fellow employees donating small amounts, you can work collectively to make a big difference. You get the benefit of an immediate tax deduction without needing to keep any receipts. EMPLOYERS By supporting Plan you will have the opportunity to learn about international development issues and how you are making a difference. You have the opportunity to visit your sponsored child and see firsthand how your support is helping to empower communities. Donations go straight from your payroll to Plan this helps to keep Plan s administrative and fundraising costs as low as possible. Build employee and team morale through supporting a great cause. Demonstrate your corporate social responsibility to your staff and customers. Offer your employees a simple, convenient and effective way to give to a cause that they care about. Help create a corporate culture of giving and community spirit. Workplace Giving is a low cost, administratively simple way to create community-business partnership and support those in need. Workplace giving is a tangible way to demonstrate that your business supports communities in need.
