As an independent charity over the last three decades we have supported thousands of people who have fled horrific situations around the world. We are proud to have helped people rebuild their lives here in Scotland and to raise their children in a safe place free from torture, persecution and human rights abuses. 3 4 5 What Your Help Means to Refugees Thank you for this food, we have travelled for nearly two days without food or water. New arrival family from Eritrea 5 helps us to provide a hot meal or a basic hygiene pack for a newly arrived refugee who is seeking sanctuary in Scotland after fleeing a horrific situation in his country. I have really felt privileged to be part of the pilot of the Peer Education for Health and Well- being programme because to me it has been a very concrete example of genuine joined-up thinking! My own work in Scotland has made me very concerned about the acute isolation that many refugees and asylum seekers experience. 30 helps us provide basic sports equipment to help a refugee get started on healthy activities and meet new people in her community. A volunteer spends time with children in our Family Keywork Project I feel so lucky to have found Scottish Refugee Council. The people there really got me through. They helped me with all the basics, the fundamental things you need to know about living here. Holistic Refugee Integration Services Client For the sake of those who join us as New Scots, and for the sake of Scotland itself, it makes sense that refugees should be able to use their talents to the max, to live in communities that they can join in with and to be appreciated and valued. Rachel Hamada, Media Officer 50 helps us to provide dedicated initial response and support to a distressed New Arrival refugee family and inform them in their own language how to start the asylum process in the UK 100 will help a new refugee to convert their professional qualifications to meet UK requirements, gain knowledge about the labour market, recruitment process and purchase basic informal clothing for interviews. Host a Round-the-World Pot Luck Lunch Storytelling Gather to tell tales of the world. Hold a clothes Swap Shop Organise a Dress up/dress down day with colleagues You could choose a theme from your favourite decade or movie. Organise a Guess the Name competition Guess the name win a prize. Hold a Guilt-free Dessert Night (No guilt as all desserts are for donations). Organise a Coffee Morning Offer hot drinks and cakes for a donation. You can ask local business to donate a raffle prize. Go on a Sponsored Silence Hold a Rubber Duck Race Organise a Cake Sale Get your friends baking. Hold an All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Breakfast Offer Skills in exchange for donation Could you offer ironing, lawn mowing or car washing services? Give it up Get sponsored to give up a favourite food. Ask people to submit a baby photo, and then ask everyone to guess whose picture is whose. Have a prize for the person who gets the most right. Hold a best Tacky Jumper competition Have a prize for the winner. Battle of the Bands Offer local bands a chance to showcase their music and ask for an entry fee. Fire up your BBQ Invite friends over for good food and company. Schools/Youth Groups Nominate your teacher/leader to take a challenge.
