2 BRA CHALLENGE There are no set quantities of activities to complete create your own ideas, add to these, mix & match as you please. Rainbows o Complete the colouring in sheet, and put it up in a local place, or your unit meeting place. o Collect 3 bras (used, broken, new, nearly new, any condition) and arrange a Brownies o Complete the colouring in sheet, and put it up in a local place, or your unit meeting place. o Collect 4 bras (used, broken, new, nearly new, any condition) and arrange a o Learn about girls in developing countries and the hardships that they face compared to boys. o Using parts of the following resource may help with this: Guides o In your patrols, make a poster about bra collections. It can be any size or shape, but it must include contact details for people to donate bras to your unit. Put it in a local place. o Collect 5 bras (used, broken, new, nearly new, any condition) and arrange a o Learn about girls in developing countries and the hardships that they face compared to boys. o Do two activities from the WAGGGS Global Action Theme (GAT resource o Take part in a Bra-Relay. In teams, complete a relay race with a twist. Each team will require one bra, which they have to wear over their own

3 clothes whilst racing in the relay. The bra must be put on, relay race, then back to the team, taken off and fastened onto next member of the team. You can tweak this as you please, but it is a laugh! o Bling your Bra decorate an old bra with glitter, buttons, fabric pens etc. You can buy plain trainer bras on ebay or similar, which provides all the girls with the same starting point. Most girls will not want to bring in an old bra of their own. You could also salvage some from your bra bank and decorate those. It s a bit of girly crafting fun, and raises a bit of awareness about the bra challenge and what it is about. Senior Section o Collect 6 bras (used, broken, new, nearly new, any condition) and arrange a o Optional - Ask your friends if they have any old bras, or do a workplace bra collection. o Learn about girls in developing countries and the hardships faced in developing countries by completing challenges from the WAGGGS Global Action Theme (GAT) resource. o Take part in a Bra-Relay. 4 Arrange a Collection: Local Collection Point: Salvation Army Charity Shop, Ballymena Women in developing countries are seen to have prestige if they are wearing a bra. Bras are in short supply, and are expensive, therefore most women don t own one. It is reported that women wearing a bra are less likely to be raped, as they are seen to have prestige or come from a more affluent background. BCR recycle the bras which are past re-use, and send the rest out to developing countries to be sold in local markets which makes them more accessible and affordable, whilst supporting their local economy. They also weigh the bras, and give 1 per kilo to Breast Cancer Charities. Clearing out your bra drawer now has a whole new meaning. Someone s rags could become another s riches. 5 Dear Supporter, Thank you for your enquiry into our bra bank collection campaign. How the campaign works. We send you out a pink cardboard bra bank along with some posters to advertise what the bra bank is for, some bags to put inside the bank to easily collect the bras, a letter explaining the campaign & some labels to attach to the bags when you would like them to be collected. A courier will then deliver all of this to the address you supply. All of this is completely free of charge to you. What happens to the bras? When the bags reach us here at West Bromwich, they will be weighed and the revenue generated by the weight will be allocated to the charity of your choice, which can either be a local or nationwide charity. The revenue we pay for the bra campaign is 1 a kilo, so it s a great way of raising money for charities all over the UK without costing you any money.
