1 Dear Summit Delegate Registration, Accommodation and Travel information (For people traveling outside of Northern Ireland) Thank you for your interest in attending the Global Youth Peace Summit (GYPS) in Northern Ireland 6 th 10 th March A proposed timetable is listed below. We suggest you arrive 5 th March and depart 11 th March Northern Ireland has two airports International and Belfast City. Both can be used and we can arrange transport from the airport to your accommodation. All costs are in British Pounds. The cost of the Summit registration is 70 (This covers access to all activities, all Northern Ireland local transport, lunch, evening meals for the week and entrance to the International Women s Day concert payable on arrival) All participants must be between 18yrs 30yrs Due to funding limitations we cannot offer financial support towards costs of flights and local accommodation. We can offer competitive accommodation bed & breakfast rates through our partners IBIS Belfast Hotel. Arrival 5 th Departure 11 th March. Total cost 345 single room bed & breakfast. Free Wifi. NOTE: IBIS Hotel rate is for a limited time only. Bookings must be made before 6th January 2017 (please quote Beyond Skin when booking). 3 Press Release (November 2016) Beyond Skin, the leading organisation for the #youth4peace initiative in Northern Ireland, has announced dates for the Global Youth Peace Summit being held in Northern Ireland in The Summit, which takes place from the 6th to the 10th March will feature inspiring artists and speakers and will be hosted in Belfast, Ards& North Down, Ballycastle and City of Derry with an International Women s Day concert on the 8th March. The Summit is the first of its kind to be hosted in Northern Ireland Young women and young men have a critical role in promoting and maintaining international peace and security. Contrary to most popular representations, the majority of youth are not violent. Rather, they can and do play active roles as agents of positive and constructive change. This is exactly what UN Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security recognises for the first time. In December 2015 the United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 2250, the first ever thematic resolution on Youth, Peace and Security. This historic document is very important for all young peacebuilders worldwide because it brings recognition and legitimacy for youth s efforts in building peace. Beyond Skin are the all-ireland representatives and members of UNOY, a network of youth peacebuilding organisations worldwide. Since 2012 UNOY have been working intensively towards adoption of resolution 2250, engaging with young peacebuilders and making connections between them and policy makers. UNOY have also been working for the recognition of young people as actors of positive change with civil society partners such as Search for Common Ground and World Vision. As part of the global #youth4peace campaign Beyond Skin are embedding Resolution 2250 into our overall strategy and work with children and young people. This includes the delivery of projects, lobbying, artistic interventions and outputs, advocacy and organising events. Beyond Skin are identifying and recruiting young peace ambassadors to assist with the #Youth4Peace Campaign. A youth4peace steering group leading the campaign here in Northern Ireland has been established and #youth4peace workshops are available for schools, colleges and youth groups. The theme of the Summit will be Youth, Peace, Security and the International Women s Day theme when it is announced. The Summit will be a creative engagement, discussion and learning process facilitated by guests from Northern Ireland and abroad. The outcomes and outputs of the summit will be gathered through creative processes and a post Summit report will be developed and presented to the Northern Ireland Executive. Page 3 of 5
