1 PEER MENTOR PROGRAMS The Clark College Peer Mentor Programs are an opportunity for students who are dedicated to serving and representing Clark College. A Peer Mentor has a strong interest in helping students become informed about Clark College. A Peer Mentor will help connect students to the college community, help students be successful and provide resources. Successful candidates enjoy working with people; have a wide range of experiences at Clark College and a willingness to share those experiences with current students, prospective students and their families. This is a one year commitment. Description of the different Peer Mentor Programs: Student Success Peer Mentor Program: The goal of Student Success Programs is to support the retention, learning and success of all Clark College students. The focus of the Peer Mentors is to assist the "Return to College" process for students who have been dismissed from the college, students on Academic Concern, first quarter students and students at large. Contact: Melissa Williams, , mewilliams@clark.edu OR HSC 124G Transitions Peer Mentor Program: The goal of the Transitions Peer Mentor Program is to support the progression, retention and success of Transitional Studies Students progression into their first quarter of college level courses. The Transitions Peer Mentors will focus on students engaged in High School 21+, English as a Second Language, GED, and students transitioning into I-BEST and first quarter college level classes. Contact: Janette Clay, , jclay@clark.edu OR TBG 201 Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA) Peer Mentor Program: The goal of the MSA Peer Mentor Program is to support the retention, success and learning of Clark College students. The focus of the Peer Mentors is to assist students of diverse backgrounds, first quarter students, and students at large. Contact: Felisciana Peralta, , fperalta@clark.edu or GHL 214 The International Peer Mentor Program: The goal of the International Peer Mentor Program is to connect new international students with current Clark College students who are interested in helping international students in their Clark College and cultural transition. This volunteer opportunity builds important intercultural leadership skills! For more information, please see the Office of International Programs in GHL 215. 2 PEER MENTOR To apply for any one of the Peer Mentor Programs listed on the previous page, please complete this one application. If you are interested in the International Peer Mentor Program, there is a separate application that can be picked up at the Office of International Programs. Application Deadline: May 16, 2016 before 4:00 p.m. Turn application in at The Diversity Center Gaiser Hall Room 214 Period of Employment: September 6, 2016 June 22, 2017 Time Commitment and Hours: Minimum of twelve (12) office hours per week. Hours of possible office hours Monday-Thursday: 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Friday: 10:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (Hours may increase during high volume periods.) Possible occasional evening work Salary: $10.00 per hour

3 PEER MENTOR JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities A Peer Mentor performs the following duties: Help support student success through connecting students to resources and pertinent information to meet their success Motivate students toward achieving academic and career goals Help transition students to the next level of education Be able to make phone calls and send s on behalf of the peer mentors programs to support student success Provide outreach and support to potential, new, first quarter, re-entry, and current students Provide direct support to individuals and groups of students who may be academically at risk Provide outreach and direction to students related to the Academic Early Warning System Provide documentation of meetings with students Speak to students, staff, and faculty; represent peer mentors at public events Coordinate and participate in special projects and activities involving other departments on campus Assist with department specific events and programming Attend initial mentor training and on-going sessions All other duties as assigned Qualifications Must be a currently enrolled student at Clark College in good academic standing (minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5) Have completed at least one year at Clark College Possess an appreciation for cultural diversity and ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds Demonstrate effective communication skills (written and oral) Demonstrate the use of Microsoft Office Suite including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and ability to learn the usage of databases and systems Model positive social behaviors such as integrity, punctuality, work ethic, compassion, and open-mindedness
