1 Dear Applicant, ASSOCIATION OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY 2016 RIA AUSA SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION The Rock Island Arsenal (RIA) Chapter of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) is proud to contribute financial support to outstanding students based on academic merit.. This scholarship is open to applicants meeting the eligibility criteria stated in the instructions. Previous recipients are scholarship eligible but will only be considered if insufficient applications are received by the scholarship committee. Please ensure your application is complete before mailing. The application will be disqualified if any required item is not included. The application and all required documents must be mailed together in one (1) envelope to the following address: Rock Island Arsenal Chapter Association of the United States Army ATTN: Scholarship Committee P.O. Box 3276 Rock Island, IL The envelope must be postmarked NO LATER THAN 1 May All applicants will be notified by by 30 June Scholarship funds will be presented to the student prior to the fall semester. The awarded funds will be in the form of a check issued to the student s college, university, or technical school. Recipients of the Chapter Scholarships and their guests will be honored at an AUSA General Membership meeting prior to the 2016 school year. The funds must be used during the school year. The RIA AUSA Scholarship Committee reserves sole rights to determine that each applicant meets eligibility criteria as stated in the Scholarship Application packet. 2 RIA AUSA SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION 1. ELIGIBILITY: a) Applicants will be limited to those whose home address is within the footprint of the Rock Island Arsenal AUSA Chapter 5102 region (RIA AUSA area in green) and individuals meeting one or more of the following: a member of the United States Armed Forces (Active, Guard, Reserve or Retired; a Department of Defense Civilian employee; Department of Defense contractor; A Veteran or as a member of the Rock Island Arsenal Chapter of the Association of the United States Army); Immediate family members of the above are also eligible. NOTE: Immediate family members are defined as children, step-children, children of legal guardian, or spouse.

3 b) Scholarship applicants must possess a cumulative grade point average above 2.50 on a 4.0 scale, computed at the end of the previous semester of education. Applicants who have taken a break from their education should provide their GPA based on the last semester attended. Award will be based on the applicants essay, merit, and evaluation of the required documents. c) The scholarship will be forfeited if the student does not attend the specified program of study listed under their selected options beginning in the fall of If minor errors occur within the application, the AUSA scholarship committee reserves the right to contact the applicant for clarification. The AUSA Scholarship Committee is the sole and final authority in determining the recipients of the scholarship award(s) and amount awarded. 2. SELECTION OF SCHOOL OR COLLEGE: Applicants may choose to attend any accredited technical school, 2 year junior college or 4 year college or university. 3. SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS: There will be four (4) scholarship awards of One Thousand ($1000) each. Awards are payable by the beginning of the school term. The award may be used to cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, room and board. 4. OBLIGATIONS OF SCHOLARSHIP WINNER: The President of the RIA AUSA Chapter will be informed in writing by the recipient of his or her academic performance at the end of each official college grading period. The President will be informed of any changes in college planning or permanent address change or if the recipient drops out of college for any reason. 5. SICKNESS OR TEMPORARY DISABILITY: If, after being awarded this scholarship, a student is unable to enroll in college or student attendance is interrupted or delayed because of illness, injury, or military deployment, the award will be held in reserve. The President of the RIA AUSA is to be informed if the recipient is unable to enroll in college or if their ability to attend is interrupted or delayed because illness or injury. The advice of college medical services or an attending physician will be considered in determining the length of time the award will be held if due to illness. For deploying military, the scholarship will be held until the applicant returns from deployment. 6. SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION: Applicants must take the following steps before application comes to the RIA AUSA Scholarship committee.

4 a. Complete this application of the year applying for entry to a school or college b. Prepare and submit a minimum 500-word essay on why you believe you deserve this scholarship, AND how it will aid you in the pursuit of your career aspiration to become a leader of the future. c. Provide One Letter of Recommendation. The letter of recommendation should be from one of the following: a current or former faculty member, a community member, an employer, a faculty member or a military officer or senior non-commissioned officer; with whom you have been associated in the last four years. Letters of recommendation instructions are provided on the last page of the application. d. Most current/relevant official academic transcript, sent directly from the institution. e.
