2 Over 100 new online courses are now available to city employees Whether you are interested in certificate programs, CMFO CPE requirements or professional development hours we offer a variety of online courses. These courses may be accessed at The goal of MTAS Online is to provide relevant and quality training for everyone involved in municipal government anytime, anywhere. Regardless of location, regardless of the time of day or night if you have access to a computer and the internet, you have access to MTAS training. Online training is a convenient, practical and interactive learning experience, and MTAS is excited about this new training opportunity. MTAS offers a variety of online courses. Each course is interactive and requires user participation. Users can take one or more courses at a time, in any order, and can complete the program as time permits. It is not necessary to complete the course in one sitting. 3 Why is there a growth in certificates offered online? Both employers and employees increasingly rely upon online learning certificate programs because people working in city related jobs must master many areas of practice. Employers understand and value candidates who have a certificate from a quality source. Employers routinely request that applicants hold these certificates so they can select qualified and competent candidates for their departments. Holding multiple certificates, and demonstrating competency through quality professional development can open doors to employment, advancement, leadership, contracts, and compensation. Who should enroll in these online certificate programs? Busy city employees who want the convenience of online training to meet requirements for their yearly professional development hours and want to grow professionally. What are the benefits of our online certificate program? It s affordable, comprehensive and easy to fit into your busy schedule. Cost effective and convenient. What if I need professional credit? Each course description is followed by its credit hour and types of credit. What are the certificate requirements? To receive the certificate, you must complete all the courses that are part of each certificate program. Payment must be submitted and all courses in a level must be completed before you will receive your certificate. Cost? Do we give price breaks or incentives for signing up for a certification? Each course is $35.00 regardless of credit hours. You will get two free courses if you sign up for a certificate. That is a savings of $ Advance your career with our online certificates Is the time requirement the same for Intermediate and Advanced? Yes! You must complete the courses within a year of signing up for the certificate program. (The number of courses in a certificate program varies see requirements under each for the number of courses you can take before you must sign up for the certificate. ) What are the restrictions of taking certificate classes? You can only take up to certain number (see individual certificates for number) of courses in any certificate program without signing up for the program. No refunds are available for the certificate program after you begin taking the courses. I see that each certificate has an intermediate and advanced level. How do I sign up for those? In order to take the intermediate level certificate courses you need to complete all courses in the beginner certificate. This also holds true if you want to take the Advanced level after the Intermediate. After completion of the Introductory Certificate you may then sign up for the next level. You may certainly sample courses from the next level, but why not aim to complete a certificate? I just want to take a few courses for now and don t know if I have the funds for the certificate program. Can I still take individual courses? Yes! You can take any class from any level. You can only take up to a certain number (see individual certificates for number) of courses in any certificate program level without signing up for the program. *In order to take the remaining courses you must sign up for the certificate program. Will there be price breaks in the Intermediate and Advanced certificates? Yes! The same rules hold true. You get two free classes for signing up and you can only take a limited number of courses before you must sign up for certification. (See each individual certificate level) Can CMFOs take an online certificate program for CPE credits? Yes, description and hours are listed in Solution Point and the MTAS Training Catalog. There are 80 courses that qualify for other hours throughout the program. How long do you have to finish a certificate program? You must complete all courses within a year of signing up for the certificate program. MTAS- Online 3

5 Administrative Professional Certificates The Administrative Professional courses concentrate on skills such as listening, time management, customer service and interpersonal communications. There are thirty courses to choose from in this program. Here a few examples: Excellence in Internal Customer Service (5hr) Essential Skills for Professional Telephone Calls (1hr) Effective Team Communication (1hr) Interpersonal Communications: Being Approachable (1hr) Human Resource Essentials Certificates Even if you know the basics, isn t it nice to review the essentials?
