In the current uncertain economy, I need to do whatever I can to make myself as marketable as possible, including earning my bachelor s degree. After earning my associate s degree years ago, I didn t have the financial resources to continue on for a bachelor s degree. The flexibility of the BPS program is exactly what I need given that I have two young kids and work full time. It s a lot of effort, but being able to go online at night at my convenience is much more manageable than having to attend class on campus. I ve done other distancelearning programs, but the BPS program provides the best option for me. The faculty and the staff for the program have been really helpful and responsive. As I have been steadily progressing in my career, the number-one roadblock for me to move into an advanced position is not having my bachelor s degree. As the first college graduate in my family, it is important that I complete the BPS to be a role model for my two children and to show my family that attaining a college education is possible. I want to show them that it is important to work hard, study hard and sacrifice a little now to invest in one s education. 3 An unexpected injury required me to make a career change and encouraged me to look into completing my bachelor s degree at UW-Eau Claire. While interviewing for jobs, it became apparent to me that employers were looking to hire bachelor s prepared individuals. In addition to that, it became obvious to me that it would be hard to qualify for advancement or pay raises without the bachelor s degree. The BPS program is very well organized compared to some other online programs I ve tried in the past. This is extremely important to me. I work nights, commute to the Twin Cities and have two kids. When I get home from work, I might only have a three-hour window to get my homework done for that day. I can t afford to spend that time trying to figure out unclear assignment instructions, broken web links, etc. A well-run degree like the BPS is critical in an online program. AARON T. Age 30 Chippewa Falls, WI I attended classes on campus for a couple years, but it was very difficult to manage. I was working full time, taking care of my daughter, commuting from Jim Falls and trying to squeeze classes at traditional classroom times into my schedule whenever I could. The online BPS program has allowed me to focus more on my studies than I was able to do previously, and I m even looking forward to graduating a little earlier (because of the eight-week format) than with the traditional programs. Even if you need to start and stop the BPS program at different times because things come up (and they will), it s important to finish. No one can ever take away your education. KRISTY R. Age 33 Jim Falls, WI Serving in the Navy required me and my family to move around the country a fair amount over the years. I ve always wanted to complete my bachelor s degree, but my busy schedule simply never allowed for this to happen. I ve been pleasantly surprised by how well the BPS program and setup is going for me. The condensed eight-week semesters are a lot of work, but I m committed to this. 7 Online Certificate 12 credits Organizational Leadership and Communication (OLC) If you are not able to commit to the 60-credit Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS) degree in Organizational Leadership and Communication; or, if you already have a degree, but would like to complement it with a certificate, you may want to consider pursuing the 12-credit OLC certificate program. The OLC certificate is made up of six classes selected from BPS degree program coursework. The courses reflect some of the key qualities of the degree program that employers value most. Completing the OLC certificate can act as a stand-alone credential or be your first step in eventually pursuing the entire BPS degree! Depending on course sequencing, it may be possible to complete the entire OLC certificate in as little as two eight-week terms. OLC Certificate Course Requirements (12 Credits Total) After you ve completed PSAS 300, you are free to take remaining required courses in ANY order depending on availability.
