MORE ABOUT SA BOARD OF PEOPLE PRACTICES (SABPP) Although Milpark is offering tuition towards the National Diploma in Human Resources Management and Practices, the SA Board for People Practices (SABPP) certifies the qualification in terms of set requirements of the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). The SABPP is a recognised professional body and Education and Training Quality Assurance body for people management qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) of South Africa. SABPP graduates are recognised nationally and internationally in terms of the comparability to similar qualifications from countries such as New Zealand, Scotland and Australia. HR professionals registered with the SABPP will carry official status as a professional, alongside other traditional professions. For more information about the SABPP, please visit Milpark College is Milpark Education s school for FET studies. Milpark Education is an independent, private, registered provider of Higher Education (HE) and is accredited to offer a range of Further Education and Training (FET) qualifications by various SETAs. 2 The National Diploma in Human Resources Management and Practices is one of two HR Technician level qualifications from the SABPP. Management THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROGRAMME The purpose of the National Diploma in Human Resources Management and Practices is to provide you with a nationally accredited, internationally recognised human resources management qualification that will allow you to become employable as a human resource practitioner, human resource senior practitioner, human resource manager, human resource generalist, and related Human Resource positions. Alternatively, if you are already running your own business, this programme will ensure that you will be able to perform the human resource management functions within your business. MAIN OUTCOMES OF THIS PROGRAMME After you have successfully completed this programme, you should be able to do the following: Coordinate and contribute to human resource management and practices, including: Provide information for the development of policies. Participate in the development of procedures related to human resource management and practices, in accordance with legislative requirements. Recruit and induct new employees. Contribute to the development of employees. Supervise a work unit and manage individual and team performance. Contribute to the establishment and improvement of labour and employee relations (including contributing to employee assistance and wellness programmes). Contribute to the establishment, maintenance and utilisation of an information system related to human resource management and practices (including compensation). Adhere to legislative requirements and organisational policies and procedures when coordinating and contributing to human resource management and practices. Promote best human resource management practices in an organisation. Contribute to the monitoring of health and safety in the workplace. Identify strengths and areas for improvement in own learning through self reflection and reflection on organisational human resource management and practices.
3 PROGRAMME DURATION A module will take you nine weeks to complete through online facilitation. There are nine modules, including the Final Integrated Summative Assessment (FISA) you will write. PROGRAMME STRUCTURE The National Diploma in Human Resources Management consists of nine subjects, namely: 1. Communication 2. Administration 3. Legal Framework 4. Human Resource Management 5. Labour Relations 6. Team Dynamics 7. Skills Development Facilitator 8. Education and Training / Skills Development 9. Management. At completion of all nine modules, you will write your Final Integrated Summative Assessment. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Grade 12, old Standard 10 or equivalent, or relevant NQF Level 4 qualification, such as the FETC in HR Management and Practices Support. RULES OF PROGRESSION After successfully completing all nine subjects and achieving competency, you will have to do a final integrated summative assessment (FISA), covering all nine modules, to assess your HR knowledge and practical application. EXEMPTIONS If you believe that you should be exempt from certain subjects, based on your formal qualifications, you can apply to Milpark for a subject exemption. ASSESSMENT The South African Board for People Practices (SABPP) is your assessment authority for this programme, which means that the SABPP prescribes the way you will be assessed. All assessments will be conducted by Milpark College. Please keep the following in mind:
4 Your assessments are made up of formative assessments, summative assessments, and a final integrated summative assessment (FISA). Your formative assessments are assessments you will do during your studies per subject. Your summative assessments are the final assessment for a subject, which you will complete at the end of a subject. It is compulsory to complete all of your formative, workplace practicals and summative assessments. Your Summative Assessment Guide consists of a knowledge questionnaire. You have to upload the answers to your knowledge questionnaire for marking via the online learning portal, similar to the process you have followed with your upload of the formative and workplace practicals. Your online Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) will be kept by Milpark College for verification purposes with the SABPP. NB: Your formative assessments do not contribute to your final mark, but they are essential tools to indicate your progression through your course. Your summative assessments make up 40% of your final mark. You have to achieve at least 65% in your summative assessments to qualify for the final integrated summative assessment (FISA). After you have successfully completed the formative and summative assessments of all nine subjects, you will be required to complete a final integrated summative assessment (FISA) in order to achieve the full qualification. Your FISA will also be made up of a knowledge questionnaire and practical activities, which you will complete over a period of a month. Your FISA has a 65% pass mark, and makes up 60% of your final mark. See the table below for a summary of your assessments, their weightings and pass marks. Assessments Weighting (how much the assessment counts towards your final mark) Pass mark (how much you need to get in an assessment in order to pass) Formative Assessments (per subject) 0% n/a Summative Assessments (per subject) 40% 65% Final Integrated Summative Assessment (per qualification) 60% 65% Your results will only be final after SABPP verification. CERTIFICATION On successful completion of all subjects in this qualification, plus your final integrated summative assessment (FISA), your details will be uploaded on to the National Learner Records Database by the SABPP, and the National Diploma in Human Resources Management and Practices will be issued to you.
5 FURTHER STUDIES The programme is at NQF Level 5 and provides for articulation to a Level 6 HR qualification on the NQF. A student who has completed certain modules in this qualification at Milpark College and who wishes to transfer to another tertiary institution should be able to apply for exemption from relevant modules based on the modules that have been passed at Milpark College. PRICING Your Milpark College course fees include the cost of study material, tuition and annual membership as an SABPP student for the period you are registered with Milpark on this programme. However, any future membership fees are not included in your course fees, as well as any prescribed textbooks. You will have to pay these fees separately, and purchase your textbooks yourself.
