3 We are pleased to invite the ESU International Council Delegates and guests to Genoa, Italy from September 17 to September ESU Italy is honoured to host the 2014 International Council meeting, during which international delegates from across the globe meet for an exciting and lively discussion over two days. Delegates and guests also have the opportunity to partake in social and cultural activities in the region, and experience the warm hospitality and beauty of Northern Italy. Members from around the world are also most welcome to join the programme and celebrate with us the launch of ESU Italy. GENOA, ITALY Genoa is a historical port city, the capital of the Region of Liguria. With its multitude of hidden gems, cosy alleyways, excellent cuisine, renovated old port and beautiful sights, it is little wonder that it was European Capital of Culture in 2004! The pastel-coloured terracotta-roofed houses, artistic churches and lovely seaside villas make it easy to see why Genoa s nickname is la Superba ( the Proud one ). Please note that a final programme, including a detailed schedule, will be sent to attendees a month prior to the event.

4 TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS Travelling to Genoa is easy. Visitors can fly into Genoa, Italy - The Aeroporto di Genova - Cristoforo Colombo provides several daily flights from other major European cities such as Rome, London, Munich, Paris and Madrid. A continuous shuttle bus will deliver you from the airport straight to the Starhotels President in Genoa. Alternatively, visitors may fly to Nice, France and take a scenic bus or train to Genoa. The shuttle bus from The Aeroporto di Genova is called the Volabus, and runs frequently between 6:00am and 11:30pm. It costs 6 Euros one way. Alternatively a taxi is an affordable way to travel the 7km between the airport and the city centre. The official white and yellow taxis can be located at the taxi rank. Please note that the cost of the programme does not include either transport to Genoa or transport between the airport and the hotel. HOTEL ARRANGEMENTS We have organised special room rates at the beautiful four star hotel, Starhotels President, for our visitors who wish to stay there. Many of the activities, including the ICM, will be held in the hotel, making it both a pleasant and convenient place to stay. However, there are many accommodation options in the city and visitors are able to choose an alternative hotel if they wish. 5 THE PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS On September 17, we welcome our visitors to the event with a drinks reception and formal welcome dinner at Starhotels President. Entertainment will be provided by local musicians. This will be an opportunity to meet the other delegates and guests, as well as sample the fabulous local cuisine. On the following day, September 18, the International Council will convene at Starhotels President to hold their annual meeting. This is an opportunity to discuss ideas for programmes and charitable activities, collaborate on projects and work towards strengthening and expanding the international network. Guests who are not attending the ICM can explore the city s many exquisite sights. Genoa has dozens of museums and art galleries, a renowned theatre, and the largest aquarium in Europe. A museum pass is included in the programme for guests in order that they may choose the galleries and museums they wish to visit. Alternatively, guests may prefer to relax on the beach, visit the nearby designer outlets or spend the day exploring the city. On September 20, we have organised a tour of the beautiful coastal region of Liguria, more popularly known as the Italian Riviera. A coach will deliver guests to the Cinque Terre or region of the Five Lands as it has been known since the 15th century. A series of five small villages sitting on the cliffs above the Mediterranean Sea, these tiny villages, can be explored by train or by foot using the paths that connect them with one another. The villages Corniglia, Manarola, Monterosso al Mare, Riomaggiore, and Vernazza possess personalities all of their own and once we arrive, delegates and guests are free to make their own way around the villages and explore at their own pace. The final dinner of the event will be held in Recco, a sunny seaside town with beautiful centuries-old palazzi, famous for its delicious focaccia al formaggio and vibrant community. On September 19, the International Council will meet in the morning before joining the guests for a relaxed lunch as a guide explains the fascinating history of the city and the former Republic before taking the group on a walking tour of the most interesting and most notable areas including the old town, which was inscribed on the World Heritage List (UNESCO) in In the evening, dinner will be held in the breath-taking Palazzo Ducale.
