2 Congratulations You ve taken the first step to a smarter Home Phone service. Now just sit back and enjoy the savings. This guide book has all you need to know about connecting and using your new service, including tips on all the great Calling Features now available to you. If you see any Features you like and haven t yet subscribed to, simply give us a call. There is no smarter choice than Rogers Home Phone. Distinctive Ring Distinctive Ring allows you to assign up to three numbers to a single line, each with its own unique ring. For assistance in the programming of your fax machine, please consult your Fax Machine Owner s Manual or contact the manufacturer of the fax machine. When you subscribed to Distinctive Ring, you specified the number of telephone numbers you would require. Distinctive Ring allows you to assign up to three numbers per line. The first Distinctive Ring Number has a ring pattern of two short rings. The second Distinctive Ring Number has a pattern of one short ring, followed by one long ring, followed by one short ring. 3 Voice Mail Quick Codes Use these quick codes when accessing your Voice Mail. To go to Voice Mail * 9 8 To listen to messages 1 1 To go to end of message 3 3 To save a message 9 To erase a message 7 To replay a message 4 To skip a message # To get date, time and caller s # 5 To cancel, exit or return to previous step * Prompt Levels Voice Mail Prompt Levels let you choose the amount of instructions you will hear, from detailed to brief, for all Voice Mail features. To select Prompt Levels from the Main Menu: 2. Press 2 for Administrative Options. 3. Press 3 for Prompt Levels. You may now choose from the following: Press 1 for Standard Prompts which guide you through most features. Press 2 for Extended Prompts which give you more detailed instructions. Press 3 for Rapid Prompts which give you very brief instructions. The third Distinctive Ring Number has a pattern of two short rings, followed by one long ring. When you hear a distinctive ring, you or another member of your household can answer the call appropriately. Call Display Now you ll know who s calling before you answer the phone. Requires a phone with display function. When you receive a call, simply wait for the start of the second full ring. The name and number of the caller will appear on the display screen of your telephone or call display unit. You ll also see the date and time of the call if your display unit supports this. Calls from customers who use Call Display Blocking will be displayed as Private Name or Private Number. Introduction Distinctive Ring Call Display

4 Security Features Security Features allow you to determine who you receive calls from. Anonymous Caller Rejection This feature rejects calls made from anyone whose number is blocked from appearing on Caller ID, including those displayed as Private or Anonymous. Numbers with an unknown name and unknown number will complete. Call Display Blocking Call Display Blocking prevents your name and telephone number from appearing on the Call Display screens of the people you call. To activate Anonymous Caller Rejection 1. Press * 7 7 and listen for the dial tone. Callers who have blocked their number from appearing on call display units will hear a recorded message stating that you do not accept blocked calls. Your telephone will not ring for these anonymous calls. To deactivate Anonymous Caller Rejection 1. Press * 8 7 and listen for a dial tone indicating that the service has been deactivated. To use Call Display Blocking 1. Press * 6 7 and listen for a dial tone. 2. Enter the number you want to call. 3. If the person you have called subscribes to Call Display, his or her telephone or display unit will identify your call as Private Name or Private Number. 4. If the person you have called subscribes to Anonymous Caller Rejection the call will not complete. To access your account by phone 1.Call Enter your 10-digit telephone number. 3. Select a transaction from the main menu. To access your account information online 1. Go to rogers.com/care 2. Select a transaction. 3. Enter your 10 digit telephone number and your Universal Personal Access Number. For online access, you will need a Universal Personal Access Number. Don t have a Universal Personal Access Number? 1. Call Enter your 10-digit phone number. 3. Follow the step-by-step instructions. Personal Account Management

5 To ensure privacy for users of your extension mailboxes, each user may want to establish their own password. Your password cannot be reset by Rogers. Keep your password in a safe place. Pager/Outcall Notification Pager/Outcall Notification dials out to your pager or another telephone number in order to let you know that a message is waiting in your voice mailbox. Long Distance charges on notification calls to a Long Distance number are billed to subscribers. To change passwords for Extension Mailboxes 1. Access your Voice Mail ( * 9 8 from your home telephone number). 2. Enter current password for the extension mailbox. 3. Press 4 for personal options. 4. Press 2 for administrative options. 5. Press 1 to change password. To set up Pager/Outcall Notification 2. Press 4. Select the schedule you are creating or updating. 3. Enter the telephone number or extension, including area code, where you wish to be notified for new Voice Mail messages. 4. Enter the range of times when you will accept notification of calls. 5. Enter the types of messages for which notification will occur; all messages, urgent messages, or messages from a specific Group List. Follow the voice prompts to set notification intervals. 6. To accept the schedule, press To review or edit the schedule, press 2. To turn Pager/Outcall Notification on or off 2. Press 1 to select Notification on/off. 3. Follow the voice prompts. Personal Account Management For your convenience, we have listed Rogers account transactions and billing functions that you can now perform by phone and/or the Internet. If you wish to block your name and number on all calls made on your telephone line, you can purchase this feature as part of your Home Phone package. Call Display Blocking can also be used on a per use basis. To temporarily deactivate Call Display Blocking (for monthly feature only) 1. Press * 8 2 and listen for a dial tone. 2. Call Display Blocking will be restored once you hang up the telephone. Call Screen Call Screen allows you to program your phone with a list of up to 12 phone numbers from which you do not wish to receive calls. Callers on your list will hear a polite message informing them that you are not accepting calls at this time. To use Call Screen 1. Press * 6 0 and follow the voice prompts, or choose from the following options: Option Press Review your list 1 Turn Call Screen on or off 3 Delete all numbers from your list 0 8 Add the number of the last caller to your list # 0 1 # (treated as private number) Add a number to your list Delete a number from your list # + telephone number + # * + telephone number + * Delete all private entries 0 9 Security Features

6 Last Call Return Last Call Return gives you the telephone number of the last person that called you, including the date and time they called. Long Distance charges on calls returned are billed to the subscriber. This feature may be purchased as part of your Home Phone package or billed as a pay-per-use feature. To use Last Call Return 1. Press * A voice message will tell you the number, date and time of your last incoming call, and give you the option to return it. 3. To return the call, press 1. If you press 1 to return the call and the number you have called is busy 1. Listen for the voice prompt. 2. Hang up. The Busy Call Return feature will notify you with a distinctive ringing pattern when the line is free. 3. Pick up the receiver and the call will be made for you automatically. To cancel Busy Call Return 1. Press * Listen for the voice announcement that tells you that the service has been deactivated. 3. Hang up. Forward Messages To forward messages 1. Listen to the entire message. 2. Press 6 to forward the message. 3. Record your introduction and press # when finished. 4. Enter the telephone number of the recipient. 5. Press # to send the message. To create a Group List 2. Press 2 for Administrative Options. 3. Press 2 for Group Lists. 4. Press 1 to create a list. Enter a 2-digit number between 11 and 20 for each Group List. 5. Record the name of the Group List and press #. 6. Enter the mailbox number of each person on the list. 7. Press * to exit and save the list. Extension Voice Mail Allows other family members or business associates to have their own private voice mailboxes. Extension mailboxes can send and answer messages from each other, as well as forward copies of received messages. Only the main mailbox can send messages to other Basic Voice Mail subscribers. The first time the extension mailbox is accessed, the user will get a tutorial. Be Sure To Keep Your Passwords Private To create an Extension Mailbox 1. Access your Voice Mail ( * 9 8 from your home telephone number). 2. Put in your password. 3. Press 4 for personal options. 4. Press 9 to add extensions. 5. Enter the extension mailbox # to add (1, 2 or 3). 6. The system will give you a temporary password. Press 1 to accept this temporary password or 2 to change to a new temporary password. 7. Record your name; Press # to accept or * to re-record. 8. Record a greeting; Press 1 for standard or 2 for personal. 9. Listen to recorded greeting; Press # to accept or * to re-record. To set up an Extension Mailbox 1. Access your Voice Mail ( * 9 8 from your home telephone number). 2. Enter your temporary password. 3. Choose a password; Press 1 to keep or 2 to change. 4. Listen to recorded name; Press 1 to keep or 2 to change. 5. Listen to recorded greeting; Press 1 to keep or 2 to change. Message Management

7 Message Management With Message Management, you can communicate with other Rogers Home Phone Voice Mail subscribers within your area code. Record and Send a Message You can send a message to other Rogers subscribers without their telephone ringing. Create and Manage Group Lists Group lists allow you to send messages to a group of recipients without having to enter each mailbox number. To record and send a message 1. Press 2 to Send Messages. 2. Record your message. 3. Press # when you are finished your message. 4. Enter the recipient s telephone number. 5. Press # to send the message. To select delivery options when sending a message 1. After you have entered the recipient s telephone number, press 0 to select from: For private message. Function (Only the recipient can listen to the message.) To mark the message urgent. (Urgent messages are played before all other messages.) To receive message confirmation. (You can specify that you wish to be notified that the recipient has listened to your message or that the message has not been heard.) For future delivery. (Send up to five messages up to 30 days in advance. All messages will be sent on the day you specify.) Press After selecting one of the above delivery options, press # to send your messages. Reply To Messages To reply to a message 1. Listen to the entire message. 2. Press 1 and follow prompts to reply. 3. When finished, press # to send the message. Busy Call Return Busy Call Return will monitor a busy line for up to 30 minutes, notify you as soon as it becomes available, and connect you immediately. This feature may be purchased as part of your Home Phone package or billed as a pay-per-use feature. To use Busy Call Return 1. Hang up the receiver after hearing a busy signal. 2. Pick up the receiver and listen for the dial tone. 3. Press * 6 6 and listen for the voice announcement. 4. Hang up. When the line is free, your phone will notify you with a distinctive ring. Pick up the receiver and you will be connected automatically. To cancel Busy Call Return 1. Press * 8 6 and listen for confirmation that the service has been deactivated. 2. Hang up. Last Call Return Busy Call Return

8 Call Waiting Call Waiting allows you to answer a call while you are on the phone, so you don t miss any calls. To use Call Waiting 1. Any time you are on the phone, a short beep alerts you that a second local call is waiting. Several beeps indicate the waiting call is long distance. 2. You can place the first caller on hold by quickly pressing and releasing the hang-up button, or LINK TM or FLASH. Or, let your Voice Mail answer the second call (if you are a subscriber). 3. To alternate between callers, quickly press and release the hang-up button, or LINK or FLASH. 4. To end the conversation with the first caller, press and release the hang-up button, or LINK or FLASH for longer than one second, or hang up. (If you hang up, the phone will ring and the second caller will still be on the line). To temporarily deactivate Call Waiting 1. Before placing a call, press * Listen for a dial tone. 3. Call the desired telephone number. All of your incoming callers will now hear a busy signal. If you are a Voice Mail subscriber, the call will go to your voice mailbox. 4. Call Waiting will be restored once you hang up the telephone. Replay 4 Get envelope info. 5 Forward with remarks 6 To establish/change or delete your primary fax printer 2. Press 2 for Administrative Options. 3. Press 3 for Fax Options. 4. Press 1 to establish the primary fax-printing destination. 5. Enter the 10 digit telephone number to be used as the primary printing destination. 6. Press * to return to the Main Menu. To print faxes at the primary fax printer 1. Establish the primary fax printing destination using the steps above. 2. Press 1 3 to Review Fax Messages. 3. Press 2 to print your fax. 4. Press 1 to print at the primary fax printing destination. 5. Repeat steps 2 to 4 for each fax message. Press * to return to the Main Menu. To print faxes at a location other than the primary fax printer 1.Establish the primary fax printing destination using the steps above. 2. Press 1 3 to Review Fax Messages. 3. Press 2 to print your fax. 4. Press 2 to print at another fax printing destination. 5. Enter fax number. 6. Repeat steps 2 to 4 for each fax message. 7. Press * to return to the Main Menu. Automatic Print With Auto Print, faxes will be automatically printed on the primary fax machine as they are received in your mailbox. To turn Auto Print On/Off from Main Menu 2. Press 2 for Administrative Options. 3. Press 3 for Fax Options. 4. Press 2 to turn Auto Print On or Off. Deluxe Voice Mail

9 Deluxe Voice Mail This enhanced service is specially designed for customers who need more storage capacity and extra features. Autoplay Messages Autoplay lets you save time by listening to your voice mail messages one after another, without having to erase or save them immediately. Scheduled Greetings With Deluxe Voice Mail you can have two greetings that can be scheduled to play at different times throughout the day. To Autoplay your messages Function Press Personal Options 4 Administrative Options 2 General Options 1 Autoplay 6 Autoplay on 1 Autoplay off 2 To set up your scheduled greetings 2. Press 3 for Greetings. 3. Press 1 for Scheduled Greetings. 4. Listen to the tutorial and follow the prompts to help you set up your greetings schedule. To change scheduled greetings, after initial set-up 1. Follow steps 1 through 3 above. 2. Press 1 to change your open or closed greeting, or press 2 to change your greeting schedule. Fax Management Fax Management allows you to receive, forward and access fax and voice messages in your voice mailbox, from any touch-tone phone, 24 hours a day. To review your fax messages From the Main Menu, to: Function Press Review fax messages 1 3 Save a fax message 9 Erase a fax message 7 Skip a fax message 3 Exit * Print fax message 2 Visual Call Waiting With Visual Call Waiting, you can decide whether or not to answer your Call Waiting. Requires a phone that is Visual Call Waiting compatible. To use Visual Call Waiting 1. When you are on the phone and receive an incoming call, you will hear the Call Waiting beep, and the number of the second caller will be displayed on your telephone. 2. You can place the first caller on hold by quickly pressing and releasing the hang-up button, or LINK or FLASH. Or, let your Voice Mail answer the second call (if you are a subscriber). 3. To alternate between callers, quickly press and release the hang-up button, or LINK or FLASH. 4. To end the conversation with the first caller, press and release the hang-up button, or LINK or FLASH for longer than one second, or hang up. (If you hang up, the phone will ring and the second caller will still be on the line). Call Waiting Visual Call Waiting

10 Speed Calling With Speed Calling, you can program your phone with up to 30 telephone numbers, including local and long distance numbers. To set up your Speed Calling list 1. Press * 7 5 and listen for the dial tone. 2. Enter the 2-digit code you would like to program (between 20 and 49). 3. Enter the telephone number (starting with the area code, if required) that you would like to program. 4. Press #. Three beeps and the dial tone confirm that the number has been entered. 5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for each number you would like to program. 6. Hang up when finished entering codes for your list. To make calls using Speed Calling 1. Press the 2-digit code you ve programmed for the telephone number you are calling. 2. Press #. The telephone number will be dialed for you automatically. To update numbers on your Speed Calling list 1. Press * 7 5 and listen for the dial tone. 2. Press the 2-digit code to be updated. 3. Enter the new telephone number (with area code, if required). Deactivate Voice Mail If you want callers to know you re home but on the phone, you can turn off your Voice Mail. Callers will hear a busy signal. To avoid Call Waiting interruption, simply press *70 first to disable it. Temporarily Turn Voice Mail Off If you re waiting for an important call and don t want that call to go to Voice Mail, you can deactivate your Voice Mail service. Select The Number Of Rings Before Your Voice Mail Answers You may want to have very few rings, or many rings before your Voice Mail answers. To deactivate Voice Mail so that callers hear a busy signal 1. Pick up the receiver and press * Listen for the dial tone and hang up. Your callers will now hear a busy signal when you re on the phone. To activate Voice Mail 1. Pick up the receiver and press * Listen for the dial tone and hang up. To temporarily deactivate Voice Mail so that Voice Mail does not pick up 1. Pick up the receiver and press * Listen for the dial tone and hang up. To re-activate Voice Mail 1. Pick up the receiver and press * Listen for dial tone and hang up. Select number of rings 1. Pick up the receiver and press * Listen for the dial tone. 3. Choose from below: Rings Press Rings Press Listen for stutter dial tone to confirm the number of rings has changed. Voice Mail (Continued)

11 Message Retrieval You can retrieve your messages either from your home, or from another telephone number. Long Distance charges apply when you access your Voice Mail from outside your local calling area. Message Retrieval from home When you have a new message in your mailbox, you will hear several short tones when you pick up the receiver. On certain telephone models, you will see a flashing indicator light letting you know you have messages. Function Press To go to Voice Mail * 9 8 To listen to your messages 1 1 To go to end of message 3 3 To save your messages 9 To erase your messages 7 To replay a message 4 To skip a message # To get date, time & caller s # 5 To exit * Message Retrieval from another telephone number 1. Dial your home phone number. 2. Press 9 when your Voice Mail message begins. 3. You are now in the Main Menu. Message Retrieval Using No Ring Mode To access your messages when away from home without the phone ringing, use No Ring mode. You will need the Remote Access Number List that has been provided to you with this package to use this feature. Message Retrieval from another telephone number using No Ring mode 1. Enter your Voice Mail access number. (Consult your Remote Access Number List for the access number in your area). 2. Press # at any time during your greeting to identify yourself as a subscriber. 3. Enter your mailbox number (your 10-digit telephone number). 4. Enter your Voice Mail password. You are now in the Main Menu. 5. Press #. 6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 for each code you would like to update. 7. Hang up when finished. Call Forwarding With Call Forwarding you can forward all your incoming calls to another telephone number. Long Distance charges on calls forwarded to a Long Distance number are billed to the Call Forwarding subscriber, not the caller. To activate Call Forwarding 1. Press * Call the number to which your calls should be forwarded, either within your local calling area or to a Long Distance number. 3. If the person at the number answers, Call Forwarding is activated. (The call must be at least 5 seconds long). 4. When you hang up, calls will be automatically forwarded until you deactivate the service. If the line is busy or the person at the other end does not answer, simply hang up the receiver and repeat steps 1 through 4. Call Forwarding will be activated on your second attempt. Press * 7 3 and listen for a dial tone. Hang up. Speed Calling Call Forwarding

12 Enhanced Call Forwarding Enhanced Call Forwarding allows more flexibility when forwarding calls. You may choose between No Answer and Busy Line options. No Answer Mode In No Answer mode, if your calls are not answered after a certain number of rings, they will automatically be forwarded to the telephone number of your choice. Busy Line Mode In Busy Line mode, calls will be forwarded to another number when your phone is busy. Enhanced Call Forwarding is not available with Voice Mail. To program the forward-to number in No Answer Mode 1. Press * 9 9 and listen for a dial tone. 2. Dial the forward-to number and listen for a dial tone. 3. Hang up the receiver. To activate Call Forward No Answer 1. Press * 9 2 and listen for a dial tone. 2. Hang up the receiver. All unanswered calls will now be forwarded. To deactivate Call Forward No Answer 1. Press * 9 3 and listen for a dial tone. 2. Hang up the receiver. Calls will no longer be forwarded. To program the forward-to number in Busy Line Mode 1. Press * 9 7 and listen for the dial tone. 2. Dial the forward-to number and listen for a dial tone. 3. Hang up the receiver. To activate Call Forward Busy Line 1. Press * 9 0 and listen for a dial tone. 2. Hang up the receiver. All busy calls will now be forwarded. To deactivate Call Forward Busy Line 1. Press * 9 1 and listen for a dial tone. 2. Hang up the receiver. Busy calls will no longer be forwarded. Change Your Password For security reasons, you may want to change your password from time to time. Change Your Personal Or Standard Greeting You can record your own personal greeting or use the standard system greeting. To change your password 2. Press 2 for Administrative Options. 3. Press 1 for Passwords. 4. Enter a new password between 4 and 15 digits. Your password cannot begin with Press # when you are finished entering your new password. 6. Press * to return to the previous menu. Personal Greeting 2. Press 3 for Greetings. 3. Press 1 for Personal Greetings. 4. Press 2 to record your greeting. 5. Press # to accept your greeting. 6. Press * to return to the previous menu. Standard Greeting 2. Press 3 for Greetings. 3. Press 1 for Personal Greetings. 4. Press 1 to select a standard system greeting. 5. Press * to return to the previous menu. Change Your Name You can change the name you hear when accessing your mailbox. Change your name 2. Press 3 for Greetings. 3. Press 3 for Name. Record your name. 4. Press # to accept your name. 5. Press * to return to the previous menu. Voice Mail

13 Voice Mail When you can t answer your phone, Voice Mail allows callers to leave you a message that you can retrieve at a later time. Set Up Your New Voice Mailbox To set up your voice mailbox for the first time, you will need to: enter the system and choose a new password, record your name, and record or choose your personal greeting. For first time users, your temporary password is your 10 digit telephone number. Enter the system and choose a new password. 1. Press * Enter your temporary password (your 10 digit telephone number). 3. Follow the prompts to choose a personal password. Keep Your Password Private. Record your name. 4. From the Main Menu, you will be prompted to record the name that you will hear when accessing your mailbox. 5. To accept your name as recorded, press #. 6. To erase and re-record, press *. Record or choose your personal greeting. 7. Press 1 to choose a prerecorded greeting that will let your callers know you are not available to take their calls. 8. Press 2 if you would like to record your own personal greeting. 9. To accept your greeting, press #. 10. To erase and re-record, press *. 11. Press * to exit. You can now send and receive messages through your voice mailbox. Ring Settings You can choose the number of times your phone will ring before your call is forwarded. To change the Ring Settings 1. Pick up the receiver and press * 9 4. Rings Press Rings Press Remote Call Forwarding You will need the Remote Access Number List that has been provided to you with this package to use this feature. Your 4-digit PIN was selected when you ordered this feature. Long Distance charges on calls forwarded to a Long Distance number are billed to the Call Forward subscriber, not the caller. Enhanced Call Forwarding Remote Call Forwarding allows you to set up your Call Forwarding from any phone anywhere. 14 3-Way Calling 3-Way Calling is a great way to bring together friends and family on a regular basis, or to set up conference calls between business colleagues or clients. Call the telephone number of the first person to whom you wish to speak. 2. To add another person to the call, quickly press and release the hang-up button, or LINK TM or FLASH. 3. Listen for a dial tone. 4. Call the telephone number of the second person. 5. When the second person answers, press the hang-up button, or LINK or FLASH to connect yourself to both parties. 6. If the second party is busy, press and release the hang-up button, or LINK or FLASH to disconnect the second party. You will automatically be reconnected with the first party.
