2 County Fair Trophy Sponsors Needed We are in need of the sponsors for the following trophies for county fair events. If you or someone you know are interested in sponsoring either of the awards, please call our office. General cost to sponsor ranges from $12-$15 per trophy. Dog: Champion Pet Dog Sheep: Champion Club Pen of Two Breeding Lambs Showmanship Sponsors The last few years we have awarded duffle bags, embroidered jackets, and other items instead of a trophy to the Showmanship winners. Although we have sponsors already designated to showmanship awards, additional monetary support is needed to be able to supply these awards. In the past, the excess cost not covered by our designated donors has been supplemented by the 4-H Council. If you would like to contribute a monetary donation for Showmanship awards or know of someone who may, added financial support of any amount is welcome. Please call our office at (402) for more details. Jr. Fair Superintendents We would like to have a Jr. Superintendent for each specie/department. The Jr. Superintendent (13-18) would work on ribbon entry on an I-pad. If interested give Eric a call. No experience needed. Junior Superintendent applicants in livestock areas may not want to be showing the specie they sign up for. This is a great opportunity to add volunteerism/leadership to your 4-H Career Portfolio. County Fair Volunteers Needed With County Fair just a few months away, we are seeking volunteers to help with various contests, shows, etc. We need help with entry day (Tuesday), judging day (Wednesday), and release of exhibits (Sunday). When you receive a mailing or from our office about volunteering, please consider helping out. Volunteers are the key to the success of the 4-H program. Adults (parents, grandparents) and 4-H members (12 years old or older) are encouraged to be part of the upcoming contest, pre-fair events, County Fair, activities and the Premium Auction. We need lots of volunteers to make the fair successful and enjoyable for everyone involved. Please call our office or one of our staff members if you can volunteer your time for a day, half a day, or even just a couple of hours. All help is greatly appreciated. Saline County 4-H Handbook Please take a look through the Saline County 4-H Handbook posted on our 4-H page. This guide has been developed to help 4-H families become familiar with what is expected of them and includes information about the 4-H enrollment process all the way through making county fair entries, information on submitting a Career Portfolio and MUCH MORE. 4-H Council Offers Camp Scholarships The 4-H Council is offering extra scholarship money to those who did not apply for camp scholarships. For more information contact Eric or eric.stehlik@unl.edu District Horse Show June 18th has been set for the District Horse show in Seward. Quality Assurance For All Livestock Exhibitors NEW FOR There will be a $5 online fee per youth to complete their required 3 Quality Assurance modules. You may complete an additional 3 modules this year to satisfy your requirement for next year. More for your money! NOTE: Please keep in mind what age group you are in. If you are at the upper age limit of the Junior or Intermediate division, you may not want to complete additional modules as you will have to move to the next level. Right now you may think it is too cold to do much outside, but a great idea to make use of your time is to log on and begin your Quality Assurance moodle courses. Each year, 4-H ers need to complete 3 NEW moodle courses. You can pick the subject within your age that you want to study. Several members have already done this and enjoyed picking different sessions to match their interests. Get your jump start on 4-H and complete your QA while the weather is less than favorable. Links to instructions and the courses can be found at on the 4-H page under Animal Science then Youth Online Livestock Quality Assurance Moodle Course. Please READ all instructions before beginning. Keep in mind that each 4-H er needs their own address. Families may not use the same for more than one youth. Please be sure to write down your password and username as you will need these to re-login in the future. We are asking that you print off your certificates and send them to our office so we can verify your completion for 2015 and beyond. 4-H and FFA youth exhibiting beef, sheep, goats, swine, rabbits and poultry must complete the moodle QA course. Quality Assurance must be completed by June 15th. Please call our office if you have any questions or need help enrolling in the course.
