2 TO THE 4-H MEMBER 1. Your 4-H record book is a way of showing what you have done and learned through 4-H by showing what you have achieved and how you have grown. 2. The record book is your personal work. It should be kept current as the year progresses. The handwriting and/or typing should be your own. Neatness is important. 3. Dividers for goals and summary, project record sheets, and general activities can make your book more organized. 4. Please feel free to create and use additional record sheets in your record book if needed. 5. You may want to keep a separate scrapbook of items not used in the record book. REQUIREMENTS 1. Cover page: Should have member s name and age, 4-H group, age group, years in 4-H project, grade in school. 2. Table of Contents. Identify all pages and were to find them. 3. Planning Calendar: Include the 4-H events involved in throughout the year such as meetings, camps, and other 4-H and project related activities. 4. Project goals: List 4-5 specific goals to work on for the year. Be specific when stating the goal. The advancement checklist may be helpful for goal ideas. 5. Project summaries: Include information about how each goal was attained or why it was not attained and what was learned during the process. Project record sheets 6. Animal health and care records: One record for each animal in the members project. 7. Financial records: This should be all costs for care of members animal, reflects showing, activity and care records in a monthly format with a yearly total. Income is to be recorded as well. 8. Inventory: This should be an inventory of all items pertaining to the animal project. Add to your list as the year progresses so the list stays current. 9. Show Record: Project competitive events with members project animal, record placing and comments. 10. Project educational activities: These would be activities pertaining to the project such as camps and clinics. General Activities and Events: 1. Community Service: Activities participated in that benefit others, not the 4-H club or member H Promotion in the Community: Include any activity done individually or as a group where 4-H is promoted in the community. I.e. Promoting 4-H at school or other non 4-H activity. 3. Leadership: Include offices held in 4-H, school or other groups, organizing a project for club or group, being a counselor. 4. Presentations: Public Speaking, title of presentation/demonstration, where given, recognition & comments 5. Project related contests: 4-H educational contests such as impromptus, groom squad, hippology, horse judging, horsebowl, etc 6. Other Activities and Events: Also include other 4-H events attended such as Fairs, Parades, Super Saturday and school events such as sports and music programs. 4-H story: This should include your age, grade in school and what school attended, when and why you joined 4-H and how 4-H participation has influenced your life. 33 GUIDELINES FOR COMPLETION At the beginning of each year, leaders, members, and their parents should agree on completion requirements that will be used by the club. This is a list of suggestions for a successful year. Check off those requirements that you have met. Attend a majority of club meetings. Attend a majority of club project meetings/activities. Serve as a committee member and/or officer as well as other leadership endeavors. Do a demonstration/presentation. Keep a record book. Learn new skills and knowledge. Compete in horse shows. Work on a community service project. Participate in an out-of club activity such as camp or conference. Compete in an educational contest such as Horsebowl, Horse Judging, or Hippology, Impromptu or Groom Squad. Promote 4-H in the community. MOTTO To make the best better.
