All OPEN HORSES must enter gate #5. Once unloaded, exit gate #5 then reenter at gate #7 and proceed to gate #11. Continue straight on perimeter road, turn left at State Police Barracks go towards tracks and follow signage to the Green Livestock parking area in the infield. To reload at end of show exit infield at gate #10, proceed to gate #6 and re-enter at gate #5. Take a left to barns, load horses then exit gate #5 to leave Fair. B. All SHEEP, GOATS, LLAMAS have a new inspection station. It is now located just inside gate #7 past the state troopers check point. Once inspected proceed to gate #11, turn left on Belle Isle and go to barns. C. BEEF, SWINE AND 4-H HORSES enter gate #7, proceed to gate #11 NOT gate #10 (gate #10 is an exit only gate), turn left on Belle Isle and go to barns. D. ALL LIVESTOCK EXCEPT OPEN HORSES once unloaded are to proceed back down Belle Isle, go past gate #10, then at gate #11 turn left and proceed down perimeter road. Turn left at the State Police Barracks, go towards tracks and follow signage to the Green Livestock parking area in the infield. NO parking by barns will be allowed. ***ATTENTION*** A photocopy of each animal s health papers does not have to accompany the entry form. Therefore, it is IMPERATIVE that you bring the original health papers with you for inspection upon arrival on the Fairgrounds. ***ATTENTION*** Livestock arrival times, dates and procedures ALL have been changed. 2 2015 T-SHIRT August, 2015 BVD-PI Testing All cattle, llamas and alpacas exhibited at NY county fairs or the State Fair must be negative to an approved test appropriate to detect Bovine Viral Diarrhea persistent infection (BVD-PI). The testing veterinarian is responsible to make sure the proper test is conducted. This is a once in a lifetime test that must be reported on the required certificate of veterinary inspection. The issuing veterinarian is responsible for verifying the validity of the test, the identification of the animal and recording the test date on the CVI. If a previous test is not verifiable the test must be repeated. Schedule of Events (Subject to Change) All llamas must be inspected at the new vet check station located just inside Gate #7 before unloading at Barn. Llamas may arrive between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 midnight on Wednesday, Aug.26 as well as 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27. Alpaca & Llama Show Association (ALSA) Rules The New York State Fair Llama Show is ALSA approved and follows the rules and regulations set forth by ALSA. Each exhibitor is responsible for knowing the current ALSA regulations governing their entries. For further ALSA information contact: ALSA. Exhibitors must be the registered owners and make entry in the exact names as shown on the registration certificate (exact owner and animal names). Exception: Exhibitors may use the Permission to Show form provided by ALSA that grants permission from the owner on the Registration Certificate to a person who is purchasing an animal to show that animal under their own name. A copy of ILR Transfer of Ownership is acceptable documentation pending final papers. An exhibitor shall never protest a Judge s decision in the ring and should ask the Ring Steward for permission to talk to the Judge. If exhibitors have a complaint or protest regarding the Judge s decision, they should put it in writing, sign it and submit it to show management. If you wish to file an official protest with ALSA, see the ALSA handbook for the official procedure to be followed. Only voice and hand commands may be used in exhibiting animals. The use of food, clickers or any other device is strictly prohibited. 3
4 Show Management may dismiss an exhibitor who is abusive or demonstrates bad sportsmanship towards the Judge, Show Personnel or any other exhibitor. ALSA Show Fees A $5 per animal fee is required FOR EVERY ANIMAL (this includes the sire and dam for Get or Produce even if not present at show) entered in the show Non-ALSA members will be charged a $60 non-member fee. Exhibitors showing ONLY in the Youth classes must pay $15 nonmembership fee. ALSA members must include their ALSA numbers on the entry form, and present their ALSA cards at the Show. Show Management Rules & General Information The rules printed herein and the livestock general rules are made a part of the conditions under which all entries of exhibitors are made, and exhibitors are respectfully requested to read them carefully, thereby avoiding confusion at the time of the Fair. The decision of the judge(s) is final in all cases, except when error, fraud, misrepresentation or collusion not discovered at the time of the award is proven. In such case, the Superintendent or such referee(s) as he/she appoints may make decisions. These decisions are final. The Judge or Ring Steward can dismiss at any time, any animal not in complete control by the exhibitor. Exhibitors are not allowed to have dogs in the barn (seeing eye dogs are exempt). All llama groups, 4 H groups, etc. are invited to bring information about their groups (typical members, typical activities, costs, location, etc.) we want anyone who is interested in these great animals to be able to find your group! Early Entry Stalling Exhibitors providing entries postmarked ON OR BETWEEN June 1 and June 30 may indicate preferred stalling. This will be done on a first postmarked basis. Entries postmarked the same date will be selected by lottery. ANY INCOMPLETE ENTRY WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. It is the exhibitor s responsibility to provide a complete entry, INCLUDING ATTACHMENTS AND FEES. Final entry deadline postmarked no later than 7/24/2015. General Stalling Information Stalling will be assigned according to postmark. All exhibitors will be notified of their stall locations prior to the Fair. Entries will be accepted up to the capacity of the barn. The stalls are 8 x 8 stationary stalls. All sides are open vertical pipes and roughly 4 high. The floors are cement, and electricity and water are available near each stall. The exhibitor must supply hoses, extension cords and multiple outlets if desired. Tack, feed and hay must be kept within a stall. All stalls maybe decorated. There are two types of stalls: Animal and Display. Animal Stalls must house a maximum of two animals REGARDLESS OF SIZE. The exhibitors must provide their own feed, hay and bedding. Sand and newspaper bedding are not permitted. Straw, hay or shavings can be purchased from Mike Teske at (315) OR Harry Moore at (315) Display Stalls are adjacent to Animal Stalls. Display Stalls are only available in conjunction with Animal Stalls, and are only allowed when you bring at least 3 animals that are entered in the show. Stall decorations are encouraged, as prizes will be awarded. Display stalls must have a public display and be kept neat and tidy at all times. If there is a problem per show management, no future display stalls will be allowed for that farm/exhibitor. Sale of Animals You are welcome to put up neat and conservative For Sale signs. Please remember the Fair rules no sales are to be conducted on the Fairgrounds meaning no exchange of money or animals Fans are recommended for your animals health and comfort. NOTE: IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF ALL EXHIBITORS TO KEEP THE BARN AREA CLEAN AT ALL TIMES. Security Security is at your own risk. Show Location The NYS Fair is located off I-690, 3.5 miles south of exit #39on I-90 (NYS Thruway). There is easy access from Route 81 to I A map will be provided with the Exhibitor s letter. Arrival/Parking/Departure Exhibitor passes for two people and parking credentials for one vehicle and one trailer will be provided via the mail to exhibitors by the NYS Fair. Additional admission tickets may be obtained at the Gate, or as follows 4
5 The Fair officially opens Thursday, August 27. Animals may arrive as early as Wednesday, August 26 between 9:00 a.m.. and midnight and between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 27. Vehicles will be allowed access to the barn and fairgrounds all day Wednesday, and until 9:00 AM on Thursday, August 27. Llamas must be in place by 8:00 a.m. on Thursday. Vehicle access is limited to the hours of 11:00 PM Thursday to 9:30 AM Friday. Midnight to 6:00 AM Friday, August 28 is quiet time animals and gear may be brought in but no construction or display setting up is permitted during this time. The show starts PROMPTLY at 9:00 AM on Thursday, August 27. Trailers MUST be removed from behind the Llama Barn and parked in the Lewis parking lot. The distance traveled to the Fair will determine which exhibitors may bring trailers to the rear of the Llama/Alpaca Barn before 9:30 AM on Saturday, August 29. This information will be provided at the Fair. Exhibitors must leave their animals and displays in place until Saturday, August 29 (unless released by Show Management). ALL EXHIBITORS MUST LEAVE BY 5:00 PM, SATURDAY. Class Information Animal substitutions are not permitted from the original entry unless an animal becomes injured or ill and permission is obtained from the Show Superintendent. A veterinarian certificate verifying injury or illness must accompany the request for substitution. The substitute animal will show in its own halter class, but not in the performance class(es) of the original. All llamas entering halter classes should be presented for judging with a halter and lead rope and no additional decorations. Llamas may be entered in only one halter class. No farm/ranch, animal, organizational name, logo or insignia shall be displayed on the exhibitor or animal during the class. Youth exhibitors are permitted to wear 4-H and FFA approved apparel in the show ring with personal names covered. Such FFA and 4-H apparel may be worn in Youth classes only. Open toed shoes, sandals and bare feet will disqualify the exhibitor, and they will be dismissed from the show ring immediately. Youths of all ages are encouraged to participate in both halter and in the youth classes offered. It is recommended youth 8 through 12 not show intact males over 24 months. The minimum age for a handler in any class is 8 years old, except in the Sub- Junior class(es). In accordance with ALSA regulations, llamas and alpacas will compete in the same performance and optional classes. If you sign up for a Costume Class, you must submit your one minute typed/printed narrative (and music on a LABELED CD if desired) to the announcer no later than Noon on Friday. Nursing mothers may not be accompanied in the ring by their babies. We recommend that nursing mothers not be shown. As an exhibitor, please be prompt for each of your classes. Once the class has entered the ring & the gate is closed, late exhibitors may not join that class. Performance Classes AN ANIMAL MAY ONLY BE ENTERED IN ONE PERFORMANCE DIVISION: YOUTH OR ADULT. Photo Contest Photo Contest Photo must be either an 8 x 10 color or black and white photo in frame or mounted on photo board ready for display. All photos need to include at least one llama. Categories include: 1) Scenic; 2) Playful/comical or 3) Llama with a person. Label Exhibitor s name and Category on back. Photos will be displayed. Please limit to 2 per category per exhibitor. Ribbons will be awarded. Youth Division To accumulate points, youths must be members of ALSA, and if not members, can join up to 15 days after the show. An animal may be entered in either the youth division OR the adult performance division. Youth must have written permission of a parent, project leader, 4-H advisor, or FFA advisor to participate in a youth event. Youth division entries must be made in the name of the youth. Youth may exhibit only 1 entry per class. PLEASE NOTE: Youth performance classes do not qualify for Show or Grand/Reserve Performance Champion status, per ALSA rules. Youth performance classes DO qualify for either Junior /Intermediate/Senior Youth Grand/Reserve Performance Champion. See Definitions for specifics. All Youth ages 8 through 18 as of 1/1 of this calendar year may show in ALSA approved Youth Classes. A youth who becomes 8 during the year becomes eligible as of the date of their birthday. All Youth who were between the ages of 8 and 18 must have the Youth Consent Form completed to participate in youth classes Youth Age Divisions (See age definitions above) Sub-Junior 7 years old and younger Junior Ages 8 through 11 Intermediate Ages 12 through 14 Senior Ages 15 through 18 Youth Performance Grand/Reserve Champion, Junior, Intermediate & Senior This award will be presented to any youth who shows overall excellence by placing well in numerous show events. Youth must enter and compete in youth obstacle, youth pack and youth public relations. The youth with the highest accumulated point total wins. The same animal must be used in all 3 classes. Youth Pack Classes Please keep in mind, it is the exhibitor s responsibility to be prepared to enter the ring in a timely manner. Sharing equipment is permissible provided there is no delay resulting in slowing or stopping the class. Exhibitors must provide their own saddle or day pack with 2 cinches complete with fill material. Llamas must be 5 months or older. Junior Youth Pack Junior youth will not put on or take off the pack during the class. Intermediate & Senior Youth Pack Intermediate & senior youth may take off the pack during the class. Youth Judging Program Junior, Intermediate and Senior Youth will judge one halter class, one performance class and one showmanship class. These classes are designed to give the youth experience in evaluating llama conformation, showmanship and obstacle performance. The Reasons Presentations encourage the Senior & Intermediate Youth to organize their thoughts and practice speaking skills while critiquing a halter class. The questions class will test the llama knowledge of the Junior contestants. Youth must be ALSA members and enrolled in the Judging Program, thus having the Judging Handbook. More detailed description for this contest may be found in the ALSA Handbook, 17 th edition. Please make entry on an official entry form. There is no additional entry fee for this program and a youth does not need a llama at the show to participate. Youth Judging will take place during the show, with a wrap-up on Saturday morning. Halter & Performance Class Definitions Non-Breeder Llamas Geldings, vasectomized males, spayed or non-reproductive females must be accompanied by a registration or veterinarian certificate verifying the above condition. The veterinarian must refer to the animal by name and registration number on the certificate. These classes are not divided by wool or sex. If fewer than 3 llamas in any age division, ages may be combined. Llama Age Divisions Juvenile 5 12 months Yearling months Two Year Old months Adult 37 months & older 7
8 Halter Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Grand Champion will be selected from the first place llamas in each age division. Reserve Champion will be selected from the remaining first place llamas and the second place llama from the Grand Champion s age division. Get of Sire/Produce of Dam Classes The name of the sire/dam and information on that animal (registration number, date of birth, animal s ALSA number, etc.) MUST appear on your entry form. The sire/dam are not exhibited. There may be more than one entry per sire/dam but only the top placing will earn points. All offspring exhibited in these classes must have been shown in their respective halter classes. You will receive a form in your exhibitor package at the Fair to fill out requesting information on the offspring. This form must be turned into the Clerk by Noon on Thursday, 8/21. Get of Sire Three offspring, either sex of the same sire, and by at least 2 different dams. If the Exhibitor(s) is not the sire s owner, they must have written permission of the sire s owner. Produce of Dam Two offspring, either sex, by the same dam and the same sire or two different sires. If the Exhibitor(s) is not the dam s owner, they must have written permission of the dam s owner. Bred & Owned Llama For breeding quality animals whose dams were owned by the exhibitor when the dam was bred, when the animal was born and is still owned by the exhibitor. These classes are limited to 1 animal of each sex from the same farm, demonstrating the best that farm has to offer. Novice Performance Classes Open to all entries who have never entered an Advanced class and/or who have fewer than three ribbons in either first, second or third place in Open or Novice division of the respective ALSA approved class. At the option of the Exhibitor, after placing once in either first, second or third, the llama may enter the Advanced Division. PLEASE NOTE: Once an animal is moved into the Advanced class, they are there forever there is no going back into Novice. Advanced Performance Classes Open to all entries who previously placed first, second or third place in Open or Novice divisions of the respective ALSA approved classes, or to any animal deemed capable of competing at the Advanced level by its owner. Once an animal has entered an Advanced class, it is no longer eligible to compete in Novice classes regardless of its placement. Pack Classes Please keep in mind, it is the exhibitor s responsibility to be prepared to enter the ring in a timely manner. Sharing equipment is permissible provided there is no delay resulting in slowing or stopping the class. All exhibitors must provide their own pack system suitable for backcountry use complete with fill material and/or weights as applicable. Show management will check weights at ringside during the obstacle course setup. Animals must be at least 5 months to compete in an Open, Novice or Advanced pack class. Age requirements: 5 through 36 months no weight, 37 months and older 25 lbs. weight. Animals age 37 months and over must carry a pack system with two cinches and a minimum weight of 25 lbs. The system is required to have removable panniers. Animals 5 to 36 months of age must carry a pack system or training pack with two cinches, complete with fill material to simulate a full pack loaded for an actual packing trip. Performance Champion, Grand/Reserve Any animal who shows overall excellence by placing well in numerous show events. There must be at least 5 animals shown in the class. Show management may combine the Novice, Advanced and Master obstacle courses to make a large combined (Open Obstacle) class, in order for a Performance Champion to be awarded. The animal with the highest accumulated point total wins. Youth classes do not qualify. Prizes and Awards Show management expresses with gratitude their appreciation for the prizes, trophies and awards that have been contributed. These will be presented in addition to ribbons, rosettes and premiums offered by the New York State Fair, in most, but not all cases. Premiums Class premiums will be: First place - $25.00, second place - $20.00, third place $15.00, fourth place - $10.00 and fifth place - $5.00. The NYS Fair will mail all premiums to the Premium Payee several weeks after the show. Premiums will be awarded in all classes except Grand/Reserve Champion, Grand/Reserve Performance Champion, Junior, Intermediate & Senior Youth Grand/Reserve Performance Champion & Sub-Junior Classes and Photo Contest. Stall Awards Most Educational and Most Attractive Awards will be presented. Stalls will be judged on presentation, cleanliness of stall area and overall impression. Entry Information Early Entry Deadline: On or between June 1 and June 30 Final Deadline: July 23 Please type or print clearly. Payee is the individual/social security # or farm name/federal ID # that the winning premium check will be issued to. All animals present must be entered in ring classes (halter/performance). All animals 13 months and older, with the exception of Youth Classes, must be registered or have passed screening with the International Llama Registry (ILR). The Alpaca Registry, Inc. (ARI), or the Canadian Livestock Record Corporation (CLRC). Non-Breeder llamas do not have to be registered or have passed screening with the ILR or CLRC, except those recorded with 8
9 ALSA and participating in the Award System. Non-registered breeding llamas 5 months to 12 months of age should provide a copy of application pending. Animals entered only in youth classes need not be registered. A copy of the registration for each animal entered must be sent with a copy of the entry form to the Show Superintendent. If entering animals in Get of Sire or Produce of Dam class, the sire and dam information must be entered on the entry form and a copy of their registration must be included with your entry. Entry will be disqualified if copies of registration certificate not provided (Except as specified.) T-Shirts and Sweatshirts NYS Fair Llama Show T-shirts will be available this year.
