AM 10 Mondays, 10am-1pm JAN 16 MAR 27 Wheel & Handbuilding Fee $240 Instructors: Trudi Howell This class will involve the fundamentals of making pottery. Beginners will learn the basics of wheel throwing and will see themselves go from making a simple cylinder to an elaborate carved vase. Hand-building techniques will also be introduced and incorporated with the thrown vessels. Many surface treatments will be explored, including low-fire and cone 10 glazes. All ability levels welcome. 15 students max. AM 10 Tuesdays, 10am-1pm JAN 17 MAR 21 Wheel & Handbuilding Fee $240 Instructors: Trudi Howell This class will involve the fundamentals of making pottery. FEB Saturday 8AM 6pm Sunday 8AM 11 $150 6 MOCHA DIFFUSION w/ Kevin Kowalski A Hands On Workshop As described in Kevin s website, Mocha Diffusion is the interaction of an acid on top of a wet alkaline clap slip surface, a thick slip is applied over leather hard work. While still wet, a mixture of stain and an acidic agent such as vinegar, soy sauce or alcohol is dropped onto the surface with a brush which immediately creates the bursts of color. 4 Page 4 BEGINNING GLASS FUSING FEB 1 MAR 22 8 WEDNESDAYS, 2PM-5PM $240 INTERMEDIATE GLASS FUSING FEB 1 MAR 22 8 WEDNESDAYS, 10AM-1PM $240 This class is designed to help you learn about this ancient process while you work on individual and class projects. You will develop an understanding of the basics of fused glass by firing glass projects in a kiln. You will learn about melting glass and combining different forms of glass to create an image. Personal glass tools need to be purchased (est. cost $35). A glass supply kit is included. This class is designed for s t u d e n t s w i t h p r e v i o u s experience in glass fusing. More advanced projects will be presented in order to extend your knowledge of the medium. Emphasis will be on quality and detail of artwork, not quantity. 8 Page 8 Mocha Diffusion with Kevin Kowalski Kevin Kowalski is a High School Ceramics teacher at Esparanza High School in Anaheim, CA. He has been working in ceramics since his junior year of high school and went on to get his BFA in Ceramics and his BA in Art Education at Cal State Fullerton. Join us for an afternoon of watching, learning and experimenting with Kevin Kowalski. Kevin will be sharing how to decorate using a mocha diffusion technique he has been experimenting with. 9 Page 9 Ocarina Workshop with Manuel Cortez Manuel Cortez is a well known Santa Ana artist dedicated to making and teaching art whenever possible. Since a small boy he has been experimenting with different mediums and techniques for creating beautiful pieces. After learning to work with clay he started sharing his knowledge to anyone interested. Making Ocarina flutes and whistles has been a positive process that brings music along with art and provides an experience that many cultures have been enjoying throughout the ages.
