1 Unit: Grammar Passively recognize target grammatical structures alone and in context. Students will actively use targeted vocabulary structures accurately in conversation and in writing. Unit Essential Question(s): (1) How can I accurately communicate using present, past, and imperfect tenses? (2) How can students accurately apply rules for passé composé for verbs conjugated with être? (3) What are the differences between the passé composé and imparfait tenses? (4) How can students write about their daily routine using reflexive verbs in the present and past tenses? (5) Where should students place partative, direct and indirect pronouns, and negations (ne...pas) in sentences and speaking? Written and oral communication using present, past, and imperfect tenses. How can I accurately use past, present, and imperfect tenses by accurately applying rules and using them in proper contexts? 1. Verb conjugations (present, past tense, imperfect) 2. Passé compose with être and avoir 3. Reflexive verbs in past tenses 4. Direct, indirect, and reflexive pronouns (me, te, se, etc.) Identify different past tenses (passé composé and imparfait) in writing and properly translate them into English. 2 Unit: Oral & Written Comprehension 120 Students will demonstrate their comprehension of oral and written French in stories and narratives concerning rooms of the house, food, drink, directions, places around town, activities, chores, personality traits, family, classes, and etiquette in the present, imperfect, and passé compose. Students will demonstrate their comprehension of authentic French songs by translating them into English and making cultural connections. Unit Essential Question(s): (1) How can students comprehend written sentences, paragraphs and passages in stories? (2) How are students able to comprehend teacher directed discourse and questioning related to targeted vocabulary and language structures? (3) How can students accurately translate written material into English? Students draw stories told in class How can I demonstrate my comprehension of a story by pictorially representing the events? Rooms of house Students translate stories read and told in class into English. How do I demonstrate my comprehension of a story by accurately translating it into English? Rooms of house Students appropriately answer questions to demonstrate their comprehension of the question. 4 Unit: Oral Expression Students will use targeted vocabulary and grammar structures to communicate on the novice-high to intermediate-low proficiency level in accordance with the ACTFL standards in the past and present tenses. How can students convey information about themselves and their activities in the past and present tenses? Students participate in uncomplicated communicative tasks and straightforward social situations. How can I use the target language to give personal information about myself and family, personal possessions, activities, preferences, and immediate needs (ordering food and making simple purchases)? Students respond to teacher s questions. How can I respond to questions using targeted vocabulary? Students tell a story based on a series of pictures. What grammar and vocabulary structures do I need to use to tell a story based on a series of pictures?
