Présentation et objectives du cours/aims and objectives of the course : Developing reading and comprehension skills, writing for a variety of purposes using more complex sentences and increasing vocabulary, both orally and in written form. The children are not working towards any formal exams in, but do have regular testing set by the teacher to assess their progress. The children are working towards Level 6 of the National Curriculum, which is very similar to the French programme and the teachers work in close collaboration in order to ensure that the children cover all the elements that they need in preparation for sixième. All the language sections have worked in previous years on collaborative activities, e.g Arabian Nights. Programme/Syllabus: Reading and writing a variety of texts, both factual and fiction, e.g. stories, poems, dialogue, reports, descriptions and summaries Recognising and using different forms of sentences, e.g. using active and passive phrases, simple and complex sentences. Recognising and using different grammatical forms, e.g. possessive phrases, pronouns, main and subordinate clauses, adverbs, agreement of verbs and adjectives, agreement of past participle and grammatical homophones Conjugation of verbs in the present indicative, imperfect, past historic, future, present conditional, compound, imperative and subjunctive tenses. Recognising and using punctuation Using dictionaries Researching the origins and formation of words Developing specific vocabulary Topics To Be Covered Journal writing, basic grammar review Paragraphs Informative writing Story writing Descriptive writing Novel Study Novel Study Reports and Presentations Reports and Presentations Debate Poetry Reading comprehension and spelling to be done throughout the year. I reserve the right to modify this plan as the year progresses.

The children do not work towards a formal exam at this age, but do have regular tests to assess their progress. They are working towards Level 6 of the National Curriculum, which mirrors very closely the French programme of study. The teachers work in close collaboration and have divided up the curriculum so that all areas are covered, either in or French, e.g. work on angles is done during the sessions. All language sections carry out calculations and problem solving activities. The children also have the opportunity to take part in a maths challenge which involves children from all over the world. 3 Présentation et objectifs du cours/ Aims and objectives of the course: To study living things, including nutrition, reproduction, growth and health; identifying plants and animals and their habitats; compare materials and their properties, e.g. melting, boiling, evaporating; study forces and energy, (friction, gravity, magnets); to develop skills of observation and clear notation of findings. The children do not work towards a formal exam at this age but are tested at the end of each unit of work to assess their understanding of the subject. They are working towards Level 6 of the National Curriculum, which mirrors very closely the French programme of study. There are some differences between the and French programmes, but the teachers work together and share the resources available. Programme/ Syllabus: Identify plants; examine growth, reproduction and habitats Examine animals, including growth, reproduction and habitats The human body, in particular nutrition, the circulatory system, the reproductive system Discover materials and their properties, e.g. reversible changes, comparisons Study forces and energy, e.g. pushing and pulling, friction, gravity, magnets. The children do not work towards a formal exam at this age. They are working towards Level 6 of the National Curriculum, which mirrors very closely the French programme of study. The teachers from all language sections share their expertise and resources in order to ensure that all the children

4 have equal opportunities to participate in artistic activities. Within sport lessons, both swimming and sailing are carried out in French. Programme/ Syllabus: To record from experience and imagination, through observation To develop skills of drawing, painting, model making, using various materials and tools To assess their own work and that of others, discussing feelings and adapting their work Examine colour, pattern, tone and texture Study the works of specific artists and different cultures, basing their own work on this Sing songs from different styles and cultures, in unison and parts Use percussion instruments to create music, composing, improvising, both individually and in groups Rehearse in order to perform Listen to a variety of music, discussing feelings and analysing Study musical structures, e.g. pitch, tone, timbre and rhythm Write music in the form of graphic scores and traditional notation Create and perform dances using a variety of movement patterns and stimuli Play and make up competitive games, using skills, tactics and cooperation Create and perform fluent sequences on the floor and using apparatus, including variations in level, speed and direction Take part in activities that require speed, power, or stamina, using running, jumping and throwing skills. The children do not work towards a formal exam at this age, but are tested at the end of each unit of work by the teacher to assess their knowledge and understanding of the subject. They are working towards Level 6 of the National Curriculum, which has some similarities to the French programme. Both sections study the Industrial Revolution, the development of empires and the fight for equality.
