1 Course Outlines The following points should be addressed when preparing course outlines. Name of the course: French IBSL, year 1 Course description: In two to three paragraphs, describe the course in terms of focus, purpose, aims and objectives, and the inclusion of internationalism. This should be a summary. This course provides students with continuous opportunity to improve their language skills: reading, writing, listening & speaking through the use of authentic material and /or authentic French Literature. French culture study will continue with a project on French history. Students will research a historical person or era. All grammar concepts in lessons 1 to 10 of Par Tout Le Monde Francophone, by Henry Lynn Herbst & Hale Sturges II are completed. Upon completion of the course, the student will master skills including, but not limited to: 1- a command of the basic skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing). 2- appreciation of the scope and variety of Francophone and World cultures. Topics: In narrative or outline form, list what you will cover in your course.

2 A. VOCABULARY 1. Everyday review and use of vocabulary learned in French 1, 2 and 3 through informal conversations about their weekends, jobs, family, holidays, future plans & other IB topics. 2. Study of additional vocabulary as found in the short stories in Par Tout le Monde Francophone &/ or Le Petit Prince as well as geographical terms. 3. Transition words and phrases. 4. Appropriate register for letter writing. 5. Useful expressions for describing a photograph. 6. IB specific themes will include but are not limited to: From Communication & Media: Censorship, and the Internet From Global Issues: Food & water supply, Drugs, the Environment, and Poverty & famine. From Social relations: Celebrations, Relationships (friends, family & work). From Customs & Traditions : Historical events and Current events. From Cultural Diversity: Concepts of Beauty From Leisure activities: Sports From Health: Drug abuse, Epidemics, Physical exercise, Illnesses, and Diet & Nutrition. Grammar: Regular & irregular verbs in the following tenses: Present, Passe Compose, Passe Immediat, Future Immediat, Impératif. Passé Composé with ETRE Reflexive verbs: present, Passé Composé, Future Immédiat, passé Immédiat & Impératif L imparfait, Le Futur Simple & le Conditionel Présent for all verbs. Adjective placement, agreement, comparatif & superlative Prépositions Negative Expressions Démonstrative & interrogative adjectives and pronouns Question words Possessive adjectives and pronouns Definite, indefinite & partitive articles Object Pronouns Prépositions after certain verbs If clauses: Si + Présent If clauses: Si + Imparfait Subjonctif Présent & Subjonctif Passé Plus que parfait & Conditionnel Passé Le Passé Simple
