3 Overview The purpose of the RAPS Visual Identity Guide is to ensure that all of RAPS publications, print materials and electronic media maintain a consistency in style and design. Consistent and proper use of the RAPS logo, and adherence to the style and usage requirements, helps to convey a specific image to RAPS members and other regulatory professionals that fosters the RAPS brand. Presenting a clear and consistent look helps elevate the RAPS brand in the minds of our stakeholders, and positions RAPS as the voice for regulatory professionals in the healthcare product industry. The RAPS Visual Identity Guide is intended to be used by RAPS staff, volunteers, members, chapters, freelance designers and other related vendors. Any documents, photos or images that are intended for public dissemination must go through the RAPS document approval process. RAPS Branding Guide 2
4 RAPS Logo The primary color for the RAPS logo is a combination of PMS 313 and black. The square graphic element can also be used in any color of the RAPS Color Palette (see following pages for examples). The RAPS inside the square should always appear to be transparent (the color/image underneath should show through). Previous versions of the RAPS logo or tagline should not be used. 5 Size The RAPS logo should never be cropped, bled off the page or have any solid color objects placed on top of the logo. The RAPS logo should be placed at least.375 away from the edge of the paper, type or other graphic elements. 2.5 The optimal size of the RAPS logo on a printed piece is 2.5 width. 1.5 The minimum size the RAPS logo can appear on printed materials is 1.5 width. Logo Placement, Usage and Tagline The logo should be placed conspicuously on all publications and printed materials. The logo should appear on the front cover, throughout the piece as appropriate, on the registration form and mail panel. The logo should not be rotated or sized unproportionately. The logo should always appear in its entirety with the tagline. Only under special circumstances should the logo be altered. In such cases, the altered logo must be designed by RAPS in-house design department, not by an outside vendor. For example, if the intended use causes the tagline to be illegible, the tagline can be removed. Or, if the intended use causes the entire logo to be illegible, the elements of the logo can be altered to better fit the intended use. When the tagline appears as text, it should be italicized, and the service mark should be used (see examples above). The RAPS logo should be appear in the lower right hand corner of all RAPS publications (exceptions can be made if the design dictates.) Examples of altered logs that can be used if necessary. Approval must be granted first by RAPS in-house designer to use this altered logo. RAPS Branding Guide 4
6 RAPS Color Palette Any color or combination of colors below can be used for RAPS materials. The colors can be used solid or any tint of the color is acceptable (20% of PMS 377). 7 RAPS Color Logos Utilizing any color of the RAPS Color Palette for the square of the RAPS logo is acceptable (see examples below). However, PMS 313 should be used whenever possible when the promotional or print items are being used as an identity pieces. An alternative would be PMS 293. RAPS Branding Guide 6
8 RAPS Product and Chapter Logos RAPS products and chapters each have their own logo (see examples below). The product and chapter logos must always be accompanied by the RAPS logo. The logo should not be place right next to each other, rather the chapter logo should be at the top of the document and the RAPS logo at the bottom. The color of RAPS in the product and chapter logos can be any color of the RAPS Color Palette, including reversed out in white on a dark background. All uses of the chapter and RAPS logo are subject to the RAPS approval process. RAPS Branding Guide 7
9 Sub-Brand Regulatory Affairs Certification (RAC) Seal The RAC seal should be used on any materials regarding the RAC. The seal can be used in any color of the RAPS color palette, including reversed out in white on a dark background. The RAC seal should appear with the RAPS logo. Only under special circumstances should the seal be altered. In such cases, the altered logo must be designed by RAPS in-house design department, not by an outside vendor. RAPS Branding Guide 8
10 Fonts for Publication and Promotional Usage The fonts listed below are acceptable for use in RAPS publications and promotional materials, including all subsets of the family (bold, light, italic, etc.). Arial abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz Franklin Gothic abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz Helvetica Neue abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz Adobe Garamond abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz Palatino abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz Times New Roman abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz RAPS Branding Guide 9
11 Business Communications Fonts In business communications (letters, faxes, press releases, etc), Times New Roman should be used for all body copy and Arial for headings/subheadings. In PowerPoint presentations, Arial is the only acceptable font (bold for headings, roman for body copy). All business s should be written in Arial, 10 pt font. Templates All business communications should use the standard fax and letterhead templates that can be found on Sharepoint. RAPS Branding Guide 10
12 Photography Use full-color photography whenever possible, but avoid heavily saturated colors, which may dilute the strength of the RAPS color palette. Digital manipulation of photographs should be avoided. Images of people and objects should show them in a natural environment. People should look real and be in focus. Thought should also be given to showing gender and racial diversity among individuals in pictures whenever possible. Metaphoric imagery used to reinforce a headline may be used sparingly, and should be easily understood by the target audience. RAPS Branding Guide 11
13 Electronic Media Always use the RAPS PowerPoint template when giving presentations on behalf of RAPS.
