3 YOUTH BOYS & GIRLS BASEBALL Youth baseball, ages 7-12 will begin on Monday, June 9, All games and practices will be played at the MEC Baseball/Softball Complex. The phone number for the complex is DIRECTOR: COREY POOLE Corey is beginning his 3rd year as Little League Director. He grew up in Thief River Falls graduating from Lincoln High School in 1991 where he played hockey and baseball and was a senior captain in both sports. Corey graduated from Bemidji State University and is currently the Physical Education instructor at Franklin Middle School in Thief River Falls. He is currently in his fifth year as the Thief River Falls Varsity Assistant Baseball Coach. He began coaching in 1992 in which he took his 13 year old prep baseball team to state. For the past 20 years he has coached athletes from 12 year olds to the college level. His passion for sports runs deep, having been a two sport athlete in college. He is excited to work with the youth of Thief River Falls. BASEBALL INFORMATION The youth baseball season will run from June 9th to July 31st June 2nd Practice Schedule Major s 9:00-10:30 Bambinos 11:00-12:00 Minor s 1:00-2:00 June 3rd Practice Schedule Major s 9:00-10:30 Bambinos 11:00-12:00 Minor s 1:00-2:00 June 5 th TEAMS WILL BE POSTED BAMBINO LEAGUE (AGES 7) In this league, players will learn the basic fundamentals of baseball. Throwing, catching, and hitting the ball off the tee. As players develop throughout the season, they will advance from hitting off a tee to hitting from a coaches pitch or soft toss. Athletes will play all positions on the field. Players will have practice/games on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Players must turn 7 prior to August 31 st. If a player turns 8 before August 31 st they will have to move up to the Lil Sluggers (8 & 9 yr. olds). Location: MEC Baseball/Softball Complex Fee: $58.00 (INCLUDES T-SHIRT) MINOR LEAGUE (AGES 8 & 9) In this league, players will continue to learn the fundamentals of baseball. Throwing, hitting, catching and fielding. A Park & Rec. baseball coach will pitch to all players promoting hand eye coordination. Players will have practice/games Monday through Thursday. There will also be a rotating night game on Mondays Players must turn 8 prior to August 31 st. If a player turns 10 before August 31 st they will have to move up to the Big Leaguers (10, 11, & 12 year olds). Location: MEC Baseball/Softball Complex Fee: $64.00 (INCLUDES T-SHIRT) Season schedules will be available to pick-up on Thursday, June 5th at the Ralph Engelstad Arena not at the MEC Baseball/Softball Complex. Schedules will also be available online at Youth Baseball Tournaments will tentatively start July 28th NO refunds will be given after May 30 th for all Parks & Recreation activities. T-SHIRT ARE INCLUDED IN THE REGISTRA- TION. Please make sure to indicate what size shirt your child will need. There will be sample sizes in our office if you are unsure which size. MAJOR LEAGUE (AGES 10, 11, & 12) In this league, players will learn more fundamentals about the game of baseball. Players will pitch in a fun and competitive atmosphere. Players will continue to develop throwing/pitching mechanics, fielding/catching mechanics, hitting mechanics, and base running. Players will have practice/games Monday through Thursday. There will also be a rotating night game on Mondays Players must turn 10 prior to August 31 st. If a player turns 13 before August 1 st, they will have to play in the 13 year old league. Location: MEC Baseball/Softball Complex Fee: $70.00 (INCLUDES T-SHIRT)

All coaches are trained by Tony Stingley, USTA tennis professional. The most affordable Tennis Program in Thief River Falls. Lessons Start June 9 th at Engelstad Park Tennis Courts. No Refunds will be given after May 30 th for all Parks & Recreation Activities. Class size is a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 16. T-SHIRT ARE INCLUDED IN THE REGISTRATION. At Itasca, you will get a chance to see the headwaters of the Mississippi River while learning about nature and wildlife in a fun, interactive environment. Please pack a sack lunch. 6 Red Hawks Trip Join us on a trip to Newman Outdoor Field where we will watch the Red Hawks in action. We need 30 children to make our trip possible. Parks and Recreation coaches will chaperone the trip. Registration will be on a first come first serve basis. To register, stop by the Park and Recreation office or visit online at Fargo Moorhead Red Hawks vs. South Shore RailCats Who: Ages 7-12 When: Thursday, July 10 Game Time: 12:30 p.m. Cost: $25.00 Enjoy a trip to Agassiz Wildlife Refuge and participate in a wide-range of activities including naturalist-led hikes. There are self-guided trails to explore and see many of the different living things that make this park their home. Bring a sack lunch and enjoy a picnic at the beautiful Agassiz Wildlife Refuge. Snack will be provided Who: Ages 7-12 When: Wed., July 2nd Time: 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Where: Agassiz Wildlife Refuge Cost: $15.00 Children may bring snacks for bus ride. Enjoy a trip to Rydell National Wildlife Refuge and participate in a wide-range of activities that will be led by a conservation officer. Bring a sack lunch and enjoy a picnic at the Rydell National Wildlife Refuge. 7 MinnAqua Fishing Clinic In an effort to expand and utilize fishing opportunities in the Thief/Red Lake River, local kids can learn to identify fish and fish habitat, and try their hand at fishing on Tuesday, August 5th at the annual MinnAqua Fishing Clinic. Please bring a sack lunch and a fishing pole. Who: Ages 6-14 When: August 5, 2014 Time: 9:00 A.M. - 2:30 P.M. Where: Red Robe Park Fishing Pier Cost: $5.00/participant Register at the Parks and Recreation office located in the Ralph Engelstad Arena or online at by August 1st. Canad Inn Waterpark Splasher s of the South Seas Enjoy a day at Canad Inns Splashers of the South Seas waterpark. Splasher s features a variety of slides, pools and activities. Pizza and pop will be provided. Children are welcome to bring extra money for the Great Barrier Reef snack shop. When: Wednesday, June 11 Time: 9:30 am to 3:30 pm Where: Grand Forks, North Dakota Cost: $20.00/person Minimum of 18 participants Please register at the Parks and Recreation Office or online at city.trf.net by June 6. 8 Join us for a Trip to Yunker Farms Children Museum and the Red River Zoo. At Yunker Farms your child will be able to spend time in the museum, play miniature golf and enjoy a carousel ride. Bring an extra white T-shirt in order to participate in Tye-dying provided by Yunker Farms. After enjoying the morning at Yunker Farms we will head over to the Red River Zoo. Please pack a sack lunch for your child. A minimum of 30 kids are needed to make this trip happen. When: July 22, 2014 Time: 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Where: Fargo, ND Cost: $25.00/child (minimum of 30 children) Please register by July 14th at the Parks and Recreation Department. Grab your lawn chairs and blankets and bring your family to watch a movie under the stars in a natural amphitheater setting at Hartz Park! A family movie will be shown on a 30 screen at dusk. Musical entertainment will precede the movie at 8:00 p.m. Concessions will be available throughout the evening. Location: Hartz Park Date: Thursday, July 31 Time: Musical Entertainment at 8:00 pm Movie at Dusk will be E.T. Admission: Free Grab your lawn chairs and blankets and bring your family to watch a movie under the stars in a natural amphitheater setting at Hartz Park!
