1 INCUBATION AND FERTILITY RESEARCH GROUP WPSA Working Group 6 (Reproduction) Pisa, Italy June 2012 USEFUL INFORMATION Meeting Sites On 13 and 14 June the conference will be held at the Natural History Museum of Pisa University hosted in Pisa Charterhouse at Calci (14 km far from Pisa). A bus shuttle service will be available (see below for details). On day 15 June the meeting will be held in Pisa at the Lecture Hall of the Mathematical, Physics and Natural Sciences Faculty (via Buonarroti 4). That day, the annual meeting of the Italian Branch of the WPSA ( will join the IFRG meeting. Speaker Instructions PowerPoint presentations on flash drives or CDs can be loaded at the meeting. If you need other visual aid equipment please let the organisers know as soon as possible. Poster Instructions Posters must be displayed between 14:00 on 13/06 and 18:00 on 14/06. Poster boards (80 cm length x 100 cm height) will be provided but authors are asked to provide their own pins for attaching their posters. Bus shuttle service to/from Natural History Museum at Calci The organisers arranged a bus-shuttle service that will transport delegates from selected hotels to the Calci conference site and return, on days 13 and 14 June. All meeting attendants booked at other Pisa hotels must inform the organisers as soon as possible if they intend to enjoy the bus shuttle service to reach the Calci meeting site.

2 Social Programme On the afternoon of 14 June from 17:30 to 19:30 guided tours of the Charterhouse and the Natural History Museum will be offered to all delegates. Accompanying persons can also participate in the guided tours. Conference Dinner For all delegates and accompanying persons the dinner will be held at the Charterhouse 14 June at 19:30. Drinks have been kindly sponsored by Pas Reform Hatchery Technologies. Accompanying persons programme Accompanying persons will be alble to participate in the guided tours of the Charterhouse and the Natural History Museum and to the Social dinner. A guided walking tour of Pisa discovering three thousand years of history will be provided on June 14 th morning (a minimum of 10 persons required). Optional one-day guided tour to Florence The local organisers are evaluating the possibility to plan a full-day guided tour to Florence on June16th. If you are interested in visiting Florence, please a.castillo@vet.unipi.it as soon as possible. A tour will be arranged only if a good number of the IFRG meeting attendants wish to attend. 3 TRANSPORT inside PISA ARRIVAL DAY IN PISA Hotels can be reached by taxi from Pisa International Airport or Pisa Centrale Railway Station. Railway station can be reached from Pisa International Airport by taxi, train or bus. Two trains run from Airport to Pisa Centrale every hour during the day (6:00-22:00) and take 5 minutes. Tickets price is 1.40 euro. LAM rossa bus connects Airport to railway station (six stops, approx. a six-minutes trip), departing every minutes. Tickets price is 1.10 euro and admits to travel for 70 minutes. Red LAM route LAM rossa (=high frequency bus service, RED line) * Lecture Hall at the MPNSs Faculty Leaning Tower Bus Station Railway station Airport From railway station you arrive to the selected hotels catching the LAM blu bus. It departs every 15 minutes (approx. a 12-minutes trip for the most distant hotel). Croce in Fossabanda Hotel Railway station For information on bus timetable: Bus tickets must be bought (at the automatic machines, Tabaccaio or bar) before getting on the bus (1.10 euro). Ticket validity is 70 minutes. Tickets can be bought on board but the price increases.

4 HOW TO ARRIVE AT THE MEETING VENUE IN PISA (JUNE 15 TH ) The Lecture Hall is hosted in the Dean s Office (via Buonarroti 4) of the MPNSs Faculty. Bus line 4 and LAM verde departing every minutes from railway station stop at MPNSs faculty (10 and 20 minutes trip, respectively). Ticket costs is 1.10 euro. Extra urban bus lines (120 and 160) connect Pisa Bus Station (Sant Antonio square, see map for Red LAM line) to Calci Charterhouse. Pisa Bus Station is 100 m far from Railway station. One way bus ticket (for 15 km) costs 2 euros. TOURISTIC INFORMATION Climate The weather in Pisa is usually sunny, warm and pleasant in June; the average day/night temperature is around 26 C/ 79 F to 14 C/ 57 F, respectively. Banking hours In Italy banks generally open from 8:30 to 13:30 and 14:30 to 16:40 Monday through Friday. All banks are closed during the weekends and on public holidays. Shopping Shopping malls generally open from 8:30 to 21:00 Monday through Sunday. Shops and offices open from 9:00 to 13:00 and 15:30 to 19:30 Monday through Sunday. Credit cards All major credit cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants and shops. Commonly accepted credit cards are Visa, MasterCard, EuroCard, American Express. Currency and exchange The currency unit is the Euro. Convertible foreign currency may be exchanged at airport, in banks, foreign exchange offices at the current daily exchange rates. Time zone The standard time zone of Italy is 1 hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). Electricity The standard voltage in Italy is 220 Volts, with a frequency of 50 Hertz. Visas Nationals bearing ordinary passports of some countries are subject to visa obligations.
