1 UNIVERSIDAD ABIERTA PARA ADULTOS UAPA ESCUELA DE IDIOMAS PROGRAMA DE LA ASIGNATURA ELEMENTARY ENGLISH I Code: ING-113 Prerequisite: High School Credits :4 Description: Elementary English I is the first contact participants will have with the English language in their Modern s career at the university, so this level implies that the contents presented are part of the strong foundation we re looking forward to setting since the very beginning. In this first level, participants start their English studies by having a 00 unit in which they get familiar with the basic knowledge they need to go ahead on the elevator; it means participants first get to know the simple in order to go into the complex. The rest of the units to be taught in the level are: 01, 02, 03, 04, and 05. In addition, there s a review unit and there are some suggested units to be covered as the lab activities; the lab units are taken from the World workbook. This class has the following general aims listed below, so that at the end participants will be able to do everything previously purposed: Exchange personal Identify classroom objects; Introduce themselves; Ask for personal Spell words; Use classroom language properly; Identify countries and nationalities; Write s; Complete membership forms; Talk about food; Order a meal; Ask and answer about internet habits;
2 Talk about likes and dislikes; Write about their communities; Exchange information about their family members; Talk about locations and city facilities; Use simple expressions of agreement and disagreement; Talk about eating habits; Use technology vocabulary; Talk about jobs and describe job duties. Tests: There are two tests to be done in this first level; one is planned for the time after covering the 00, 01, and 02 units; the other one is to be done for the rest: 03, 04, and 05. Purposes: Unit 00: The basics Vocabulary: 1. Say one s name and introduce oneself; 2. Learn the letters of the alphabet to spell one s name and other words; 3. Distinguish between capital and small letters; 4. Learn the numbers and count; 5. Tell the time in English; 6. Identify objects by using this, that, these, and those ; a. To be (simple form); b. Demonstrative adjectives (this, that, these, and those); c. Subject pronouns; d. The prepositions onin-at for time expressions; e. The indefinite article: a/ an; f. Basic plural rules. -Classroom objects; -Days of the week; -Months of the year; -Classroom expressions; -Colors. *Every participant will say his/ her name and will also spell it; *Pair work: They will share their phone numbers, after learning the basic numbers; *Participants will do a written exercise in which they tell (write) the time; *Participants identify objects by looking at different pictures. a. 5 Unit 03: Good for you Vocabulary: 1. Talk about favorite food; 2. Expand our food vocabulary; 3. Identify food from different parts of the world; 4. Use expressions of quantities; 5. Talk about likes and dislikes on food; 6. Prepare a food festival. a. A/ an/ some/ a lot of; b. Many/ much; c.
