3 The Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) is an outstanding event for animated film worldwide. At the Festival, the entire spectrum of current animation film production is presented with links to visual effects, architecture, art, design and games. The ITFS offers directors, production companies and distribution companies a platform for presenting their films and transmedia projects to a broad, interested audience and numerous industry representatives. During six days and nights in the spring of 2017, the Stuttgart region will once again become the global centre of animated film. Founded in 1982, the Festival has developed into the leading event for animated film in Germany and is considered one of the most important and largest events for animated film worldwide. In the midst of the unique setting of Stuttgart s city centre, the Open Air theatre provides a very special atmosphere for the Festival. Thanks to a large LED screen, starting at mid-day short animated films and popular feature films can be shown, making the Festival of Animated Film a true family festival. In 2016, around 80,000 visitors came to Stuttgart to watch around 1,000 films on the Open Air screen and in Stuttgart s cinemas. In innovative event formats and unusual locations like the Mercedes Benz Museum, the Neues Schloss and the Renitenztheater, the art of animated film is celebrated with shows and galas. Together with the Ludwigsburg Schlossfestspiele, the ITFS has developed extraordinary concert formats linking live music and animation. The artistic animated films, innovative, interactive and transmedia work and the promotion of young talents are the focus of the Festival. In the various competitions, prize money amounting to more than 70,000 euros is awarded. With the unique combination of the Festival of Animated Film, Animated Production Day and the high-quality expert congress FMX, the event has become an important platform for funding and developing animated projects. Over 5,000 professionals from the industry meet in Stuttgart for an intensive exchange.

4 Competitions & Prizes INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION The International Competition is the heart of the Festival. Here, highquality artistic short animated films from the last twelve months can be seen. An international jury made up of well-known personalities from the animation industry awards the following prizes: Grand Prix State of Baden-Württemberg and City of Stuttgart Grand Award totalling 15,000 euros. Lotte Reiniger Promotional Award for Animated Film The prize for the best graduation film totalling 10,000 euros, sponsored by MFG Film Funding Baden-Württemberg. SWR Audience Award Totalling 6,000 euros. Tele 5 Leider Geil! Special Award Tele 5 presents the cross-competition and cross-category Leider Geil Special Award with a cash prize of 2,500 euros. Amazon Audience Award Amazon Instant Video Germany presents the Amazon Audience Award totalling 5,000 euros. YOUNG ANIMATION The Young Animation competition shows the best student films from international film and art schools. Young Animation Award Award for the best student film totalling 2,500 euros, funded by Landesanstalt für Kommunikation Baden-Württemberg and MFG Film Funding Baden-Württemberg. The FANtastic Award The FANtastic Award with a cash prize of 1,000 euros is the prize for the best animation talent. It is funded by the Animation Family, the ITFS s most loyal fans. TRICKS FOR KIDS The children s film festival Tricks for Kids presents challenging and entertaining animated films and series for children. Award for the best children s animated film Prize money totalling 4,000 euros, funded by Studio 100 Media GmbH. The winner is chosen by a children s jury. Award for the best animated series FOR CHILDREN national and international Sponsored by MIP Junior The winner is chosen by an expert jury.

5 ANIMOVIE In the feature film competition AniMovie, a selection of internationally outstanding feature-length animated films are shown. AniMovie Award Prize for the best feature-length animated film. GERMAN ANIMATION SCREENPLAY AWARD The goal of the award is to promote outstanding German screenplays for feature-length animated films. The award amount is 2,500 euros funded by Telepool GmbH. The call for submissions for the German Animation Screenplay Award goes out in November. GERMAN ANIMATED VOICE ACTOR AWARD Prize for the best German-language voice actor in a feature-length animated film in co-operation with the Renitenztheater. CRAZY HORSE SESSION THE 48H ANIMATION JAM International teams take up the challenge of creating a short animated film about the Festival s mascot Trixi in 48 hours. The Crazy Horse Session takes place in co-operation with M.A.R.K.13 electronic media and is supported by MFG Film Funding Baden-Württemberg and Landesanstalt für Kommunikation Baden-Württemberg. A call for applications for the Crazy Horse Session goes out in November. SPOTLIGHT ANIMATED COM AWARD Spotlight Festival for Moving Image Communication and the Animated Com Award grow together. For the first time, both awards will be presented together in a gala for advertising films and applied animation on Saturday, May 6 in the Alte Reithalle. Award for applied animation in the field of advertising. The main prize for applied animation, 2,500 euros, is sponsored by the Animation Media Cluster Region Stuttgart. The call for entries will go out in mid-october. LOCAL HERO GAMES AWARD The prize is for developers and publishers of computer games and goes to the best and most innovative computer game from Baden-Württemberg. The award is funded by MFG Medien- und Filmgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg mbh. A call for applications goes out at the end of November. The award amount is 5,000 euros. 6 Supporting Programme One Festival highlight is the curated section BEST OF ANIMATION. Best of Animation presents the most interesting and remarkable animated films from the last ten years according to their thematic and formal aspects. The curator of BEST OF ANIMATION 2017 is Daniel Suljic, Director of the Animafest Zagreb. PANORAMA INTERNATIONAL offers insights into the current trends in the international animation landscape. In the series IN PERSONA, internationally renowned and artistically exceptional animated filmmakers give personal insights into their films and working methods. The guests include the Canadian filmmaker Ann Marie Fleming. Worldwide leading and distinguished as well as young innovative animation studios present their working methods and productions in the STUDIO PRESENTATIONS and give an exclusive outlook on new projects. In the SCHOOL PRESENTATIONS, the Festival of Animated Film shows programmes from selected film and art schools. In the GAME ZONE, innovative and high-quality computer games and interactive projects linking games and animation are presented and visitors are invited to play. In the children s film festival TRICKS FOR KIDS and in co-operation with the VHS Stuttgart Treffpunkt Kinder and the Landesanstalt für Kommunikation Baden-Württemberg numerous film programmes, workshops, special presentations and hands-on events for children and school classes are offered. Experienced animated filmmakers give personal insights into the wonderful world of animated film. In the upcoming ITFS, Croatia is our guest country. Selected filmmakers, studios and universities present themselves. From the advertising avant-garde in the 1920s to interactive applications, VR and transmedia: ANIMATED COMMERCIALS is a curated programme on the history and future of animated commercials to celebrate the co-operation between Spotlight the festival for moving image communication and ITFS.

8 11 th Animation Production Day The Animation Production Day (APD) is a business platform for the German and international animation industry that takes place for the 11th time within the framework of the Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) and the FMX, International Conference on Animation, Effects, VR, Games and Transmedia. APD is the only German co-production and financing marketplace event focused exclusively on animation. At APD, German and international producers present their film, series, games and transmedia projects to potential co-production partners, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, funders and investors in a series of fruitful one-on-one meetings. The programme is complemented by a conference and various networking events. At APD 2016 around 140 participants from 18 different countries negotiated on co-operation for the 39 selected animation projects showcased in over 600 one-on-one meetings. The total production volume of these projects is around 150 million Euros. FMX Where Art, Technology and Business meet The FMX is Europe s most influential conference for effects, animation, virtual reality, games and transmedia. Each year, artists, researchers, producers and experts from across the world discuss current questions of production, technologies and distribution models. In the conference programme, top-class speakers hold presentations and workshops, hardware and software providers demonstrate their innovations at the Marketplace, companies are on the lookout for creative talents in the Recruiting Hub, universities showcase their projects on the School Campus, and in the context of various VR experiences the expert audience can dive into virtual realities. The FMX is organised by the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg s Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Postproduction.
