7 Year 1 Mathematics urriculum: Measurement, Geometry and Statistics Geometry: Geometry: Measurement Properties of Shape Position & Direction Whenever possible, teaching of measurement will be linked to real life situations, topic work and, in particular, science. ompare, describe and solve practical problems for: lengths and heights (e.g. long/short, longer/shorter, tall/short, double/half. mass/weight (e.g. heavy/light, heavier than/lighter than). capacity and volume (e.g. full/empty, more than, less than, half, half full, quarter). time (e.g. quicker, slower, earlier, later. Measure and begin to record the following: lengths and heights mass/weight capacity and volume time (hours, minutes, seconds) hildren will be taught to use non-standard measures, and will then be introduced to standard measures such as metres, centimetres, litres, kilograms. Recognise and name common 2D and 3D shapes including: 2D shapes: rectangles (including squares), circles and triangles. 3D shapes: cuboids (including cubes), pyramids and spheres. Describe position, direction and movement, including whole, half, quarter and three-quarter turns. Statistics hildren will be introduced to the following aspects of the Year 2 Statistics curriculum where it supports learning in the other areas of mathematics or in science: Interpret and construct simple pictograms, tally charts, block diagrams, and simple tables. Ask and answer simple questions by counting the number of objects in each category and sorting the categories by quantity. Ask and answer simple questions by totalling and comparing categorical data. Recognise and know the value of different denominations of coins and notes. hildren will be taught to count coins in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s as appropriate. They will be taught to combine simple coins to make amounts. Sequence events in chronological order using language (e.g. before/after, next, first, today, yesterday, tomorrow, morning, afternoon and evening. Recognise and use language relating to dates, including days of the week, weeks, months, years. Tell the time to the hour and half past the hour and draw the hands on a clock face to show these times.
